A small rant (post covid)

Just gotta let this one off my chest. Pre-covid, I used to get something from Disney Floral every trip. I always did something different whether it was just the DW and I or whether the kids came along. Yeah, their stuff was over-priced, but I loved the way they would decorate the room, and usually I would get something that involved some decoration (loved when they would do Halloween and string up a couple of spider webs or something).

I am irritated that they still can't do that. I GET IT. I am not complaining - I know about social distancing and all that and I am not advocating putting people at risk. Although I would think if they do it before check-in, there really is not any risk (they have always done it before we get to the room). None the less, I get it. Let's not get into any "OMG you don't care about the health of people" stuff.

That doesn't mean I can't be sad and miss it. I want cool new ways to surprise my family with room decorations before we get there and I want Disney to do it, dang it. Leaving it at the front desk does nothing. Literally nothing, since DW will just make me handle it so its not like she will handle bell services. I might as well tell her to take a nap while I go to the grocery store.

I want it to be delivered, and I want them to do cool stuff with it to decorate the room, and I want it done by someone else and before I show up. Take my money and make it happen.

I think Disney World has passed the point of doing things for COVID safety. Everything now I think is related to staffing issues (or budget, but in this case they'd be making money, so it's likely lack of staffing).

There is a group, Ear For Each Other, on FaceBook, comprised of laid off CMs. Some make amazing cakes, charcuterie boards, snacks, baskets, as well as people who decorate doors/rooms, a few chefs who come to your room, princess make-overs, Jedi training, etc. If you search "décor" in the group, there are photos of a decorated room at Wilderness Lodge.

They probably can't get in your room to decorate before you arrive. But I wonder if you could make it happen after you arrive. Is there ever a time when you could go back to the room alone and let them in? Are you able to make up an excuse, such as needing to be in the room to take a call for a short period of time?

It wouldn't be the same as what you have done in the past. On the other hand, that could add an element of surprise for your family members. They have seen the room decorated upon arrival. They have never seen it decorated when they return from the parks one day.

Of course that assumes you are comfortable with people who are not current Disney employees being in your room with your stuff.

OP, I think what you have always done before is lovely! I would have enjoyed to have our Villa decorated, and I see how you are missing it. I hope things get back to the way they used to be soon. I don’t know anyone who thought 2021 would be as restrictive and as bad with Covid cases as it has been.

The person who requested the décor added the decorator as a Day Guest so she could go into the room while the family was out. The decorator was given the room number, & just picked up the Room Key at the Front Desk.
Of course, it is up to personal comfort levels to decide if that is a feasible option.

Someone else PM's me about them. I am considering that as an option. As noted by others, it's not quite the same thing. The thing I preferred about Disney Florist is that they had exclusive access to the room prior to when we arrived. I didn't have to schedule time to be in the room. People like to make their plans, and when I have tried to surprise people before with an event or something, invariably they will want to go to a gift shop, or monorail hoping or to Disney springs, or visit friends in the area, or SOMETHING. It's very difficult to pin my people down without tipping them off. If they get tipped off, they get annoyed and into an hour long conversation about how I shouldn't spend money on that or shouldn't do that, and can we cancel. A surprise that takes zero time, doesn't depend on when we are there, and they don't even get a chance to argue about it is preferable. :) Please do not take this as meaning I do not appreciate the suggestion. I really do!

The biggest problem I see there is generally, it's not like we are walking around the resort and I need to excuse myself for 5 minutes. You're talking an Uber back to the resort, a flipping 10 mile walk to my room (I exaggerate, but it sure does feel that way sometimes), a 10 mile walk back, another Uber ride and then back to wherever my party was.

"Um. Excuse me y'all. I need to go to the restroom. I;'ll be back. Don't wait... You should have time to ride SDD and MMRR" is pretty suspicious. :rotfl2:

Again, I realize you'll are just trying to help and I appreciate it!

I'm sure that is part of it. Plus the extra time needed between guests for room cleaning/disinfecting.

Yeah, I can think of a good number of reasons why they are not doing it right now. They are valid reasons. Again, I don't argue that it's valid they are not offering it. I just miss it!

That's an interesting idea. but I am not sure how DW would react if I gave someone access to our room without telling her after our stuff was in the room. That might be grounds for divorce. LOL.

Totally understandable - i would feel the same way.
Considering what you really want is currently not an option though, it's nice to know you at least have an alternative - good luck!!
