A single or a double stroller?

I have a 4 y/o and a 6 y/o (will turn 7 on our trip in nov.). I'm really unsure on wether or not to get a stroller for my almost 7 year old. While in normal every day life my children haven't used strollers since they were 2. But Disney is not normal everyday life. I KNOW my 7 year old will complain and not be happy with all the walking. Where as my 4 year old will probably be fine (i know it sounds twisted). That's why i'm not sure whether i should get a single stroller for them to take turns in or a double to just be safe. To me a tired kid is an unhappy kid and i don't want meltdowns (both my me or my kids) at disney. We go every year and this is the first year i'm considing not having a stroller for both of them.

I looked up renting a double from an offsite company and it's about $85 dollars for 8 days. Which isn't bad for a really good double. My husband is having a hard time with this. We have used the jeep double for the past two trips and it's on it's last leg. It wasn't meant for the weight we are putting in it and the foot strap on one side broke. So i don't think we could make another year with it.

You should be fine with a single. We went in March and our kids were 2, 5 and just turned 7 at the time. We took our double jogger and the 2 year old rode most of the time and then the other two took turns. Honestly the older 2 did not ride very much at all. Take a single and just explain to them way ahead of the trip that there will be one stroller and they will take turns when tired but that they are big enough to walk most of the time. Then if they both mostly walk, use the stroller for your stuff!

My kids never used a stroller past 3 so there is no way I would bother with a double stroller for a 7 yr old.

Actually with the ages of your kids I wouldn't bring any and let them both walk. Especially if the 4 yr old will be fine. I never figured out how a 7 yr old would even think about a stroller, to me they would just assume they would be walking and do it. I would just go stroller free and enjoy the freedom that comes from not having to bother with one in the crowds and buses etc. It truly is freeing and enjoyable.

I defiantly would not take the one with the broken strap. We had the strap on our jeep stroller break while we were there.

Rent the double and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. My kids didn't typically ride in the stroller past the age of 3, but in Disney we rented the double stroller until my youngest were 5 and 6 and it was worth every penny.

Also, get prepared, because this topic tends to get hot and brings out a lot of nasty opinions about lazy kids and lazy parents. They will flame you for asking and flame me and flame anybody else who thinks it's okay to put a child over the age of 3 in a stroller.

I think I would get the single. 4 y/o is heavy if you have to carry him out of a crowded park.

Def go for the double because if the older one sees the little one using it all the time they will want to take a break and ride too

We are bringing 2 strollers for a 6 and almost 8 year old. They are not lazy, fat or anything else. They are normal, active kids but WDW is a whole different ball game than RL. I love all the people on here who say their kids would be embarrassed to be in a stroller at those ages. Mine asked if we could bring them with us just in case their legs got tired (their words not mine). No problem for me. We will now have a place to store our bottled water and other stuff we will need.

I can't imagine making a kid who is 3, 4 or even 5 walk all day, stand in lines, maybe swim and then go back for more. I think that is crazy. To each their own though.

Okay changed my mind. Get the double if you think the 7y/o needs it too. It's your trip, I couldn't imagine a 7 y/o wanting to ride in a stroller, but I don't have 7y/o. If you think he will be jealous or upset, then get it!! Not worth a fight for who will ride in it.

get the double. the 4yo will need it and the 7yo might want it. either or both might also use it to crash and take a nap.

even if you don't use the 2nd seat for the 7yo, you can use it for carrying stuff.

I second this! Our 8 and 6 yr olds are extremely active kids, but a full day at Disney will wear them out if they walk the entire time. Do whatever will make the children the most comfortable because that is what will make your day the most magical. We bring 2 double strollers for our 5 children (8,6,4,19mnt,2mnth)

Hey, if it makes your trip easier then just do it Its a LOT of excercise at DW. It's even nicer if one or even two fall asleep (and it CAN happen) especially at night time. We have to take one for my DS who will be turning 9 - he as Autism though and I have seen the funny looks but nobody knows my kids better than me! He NEEDS it! My DD(5) likes to use a little umbrella one ONLY AT DW but like you, she's mostly a happy walker so not always necessary for her but a few times she wanted to use her brothers and its a safety/cocoon issue for him so no sharing there. Hey, if they are walking you have somewhere to store your stuff and a DW stroller is used at the Park only so no lugging it back on transport etc. Best of luck and have a wonderful trip!

If you are driving I would suggest buying a sit and stand stroller for about $120. It gives them the option to sit when they are tired. We used this for our 1 and 4 year olds and could not have survived without it!

I don't think a 4 and 6 year old would fit in the sit and stand strollers I've seen. Is your's big enough for a 6 year old to sit in the front?

I have same dilemma.I was thinking of 2 single strollers incase we split with the kids and not sure how wide the double stroller is on the bus.

I say get the double. We have a baby jogger city series double and it works great with 2 older kids. It's great for night time when we head back to a park and the kids can take a rest. Or if just one wants to rest, then you can use the other seat for some storage.

Our thinking is better safe than sorry! We always say "do we need to take the jogger again" and in the end we're very glad we did.

hahaha, last year it broke on the first day. We had a bungee with hooks on both sides from our luggage and ended up using that as a makeshift foot rest. It did the trick but we kept laughing at our ghetto stroller.

To those that don't get it, that's their opinion and they have their right to it. I don't judge what others do because you never know someone's situation. I wouldn't notice if someone was giving me the stink eye, cuz i'd be too busy enjoying the disney magic and enjoying my family time.

I agree. Like i said, my kids don't use strollers ever. Not at an amusement park or the mall or the zoo. But this is 8 days of straight walking, walking, walking, and more walking. So where as i think they could handle a day of it, i'm not sure if they could handle 8 days of it. I don't want to not bring one or bring one to share and then we end up having to rent from disney (because those are ridiculously priced). That's where the problem lies.
