A sensitive request for help...

Congratulations. We also are celebrating our anniversary in the World this October. One of the surpises I have in store for my DH is a champagne horse and buggy ride at POR. I think it would be a romantic and private way to spend some time together. I'll also br taking him to GF for high tea and have arranged for an illuminations cruise. Hope these and eveyone elses suggestions will be useful in planning a great vacation. Looks like we might be there at the same time (10/25-11/1) Maybe we'll meet up some where when we least expect it.

Congrats on your anniversary! I'm always happy to see two people in love and making it work together - it happens so rarely these days!

My advice will go a bit in the opposite direction. While I agree 100% with the V&A and Cruise suggestions, remember that there are lots of opportunities for little "magic moments" throughout the resort. DW and I are going for our first 'empty nester' trip, and we're looking for some magic too (and, as 40-somethings, we need to avoid obvious PDAs so as not to frighten the younger folk :p ). The Polynesian is a great place to walk at night, with the tiki torches lit and the music playing. Simply standing together on Main Street as the fireworks go off. And there are a fair amount of 'dark rides' - PotC, HM, etc. - where I've seen couples of all types catch a quick hug or smooch!

Whatever you choose, the fact that you care enough to think about, and plan for, these things make me think that you two will have a great time!

Best of luck - and let us all know how it turns out!

Rick - congratulations to you and Joe. You make me very jealous. I wish my husband were that romantic (sigh). All the suggestions here sound wonderful. I personally would like to be more secluded just because it seems more romantic IMO. Snugglin' up with your loved one. Okay, get me out of fantasyland...

Please make sure you post when you come back. We all would love to hear about your trip.

BTW, the closest costume I could find in the Disney characters is Captain Hook. I think that would look pretty hot!
;) Take care.

Rick, you could always go spur of the moment. I mean, that don't pick a specific time or setting. Just keep the ring on you and when you have one of those disney moments you could present it. This is what I did on our last trip when I proposed. Although, I was a bit nervous riding SM and BTMRR with it in my pocket. Just a thought, whatever you do I'm sure it'll be great! Have a great trip!

Rick,
I am so glad I found your post. I was wanting to post the exact same thing, about wanting to do something romantic for my partner.
You two sound like you were meant for each other, and what a way to spend an anniversary, but in the most magical place on earth??
I am also looking for something special to do, to present a ring to my partner of 11 years. We have already had a union, but I wanted to give her a special gift. Disneyworld is our favorite destination, and we try to get there a couple times a year. So, I was looking for something different to do as well.

I have put in a request withe Gifts of a Lifetime, to see what they come up with.

I love to read all the wonderful ideas about being romantic, but discreet.
I am looking forward to your report of what you were able to accomplish on your vacation!!
I wish you good luck, and hope you have a magical time!!

... I can still, somehow, think clearly. "What would I want?" Because, of course, its' all about me (at least until I find a guy of my own who will let me make it all about him), and suddenly, after you mentioned the costumed Prince thing, and I noticed another poster’s remark, it all came together:

You, all dressed up as Prince Charming and looking more handsome than ever, breaking out the ring while taking a beautiful, moonlit carriage ride, which they just happen to have over at Port Orleans Riverside (which is also kinda cool in so far as you wanting to sort of avoid being surrounded by potentially close-minded fools... the resort property might well be less crowded with spectators than would some other location in a park).

Just a thought.

Remember, if you or Joe have a brother (cousin, neighbor, particularly human looking monkey) who also loves Disney and needs a little lovin', I'm always available.

Richard

No suggestions on romance at WDW but wanted to add my best wishes and congratulations. Some people go through life and never meet their true soulmate, you are incredibly fortunate to be one of the ones who did. Hope Joe realizes how lucky he is to have you!

P.S. care to give my DH some lessons on how to make grande gestures in the name of romance? :D

I just found this thread and read it page by page. I just have to say that I think that is one of the sweetest things I've heard. Life is short, if you have found "the one" ~ hang on tight. Too many times we are told what is "wrong" when infact, it's incredibly right and perfect. I think Joe is incredibly lucky to have you as a partner. I can not wait to hear all about your trip and all the details. I, for one, think anyplace in Disney is great and wherever you choose will be wonderful. I wish you both well and much love and happiness. :p

Disney for your anniversary is wonderful and I know you wont have any problems with the CMs there they are considerate of every guest. I too vote for the fireworks cruise for a few extra $$ they can include some snacks and a bottle of chilled champagne so you can toast the evening. I did not notice which resort you are staying at. As a wdw concierge & Gst Service Cm we often would arrange or make suggestions for these very types of celebrations. So if you are staying at a Disney resort you might want to give them a call about a week out from your arrival. I would have your anniversary noted on your hotel resv and make sure to mention it when you make a PS. Some of the resorts will be able to do private dining as well, i have arranged this many times at GF. Carriage rides are available at FW & POR.

I hope your visit is magical. Have a wonderful time and dont forget to do a report when you return.

You DO know that they play "When You Wish Upon a Star" in front of the Castle at noon, right? That is where my BIL proposed to my now-SIL- on bended knee no less! I think that would just be SO romantic. A little public in broad daylight, but hey, you are never going to see those people again!
Gifts of a Lifetime will arrange quiet, private celebrations also- how about coming back to you room fully decorated, candles, wine, the whole works? They can hook you up! My DH does not like public displays either and Gifts is just wonderful.

Hi again folks!

I just wanted to tell you all how much I appreciate your comments and your thoughtul good wishes. I honestly didn't expect too much feedback at all. Boy am I so happily surprised!

You've all given such great ideas and I'm in the plotting (not planning, PLOTTING) stages as we speak! I'm getting so excited!

I have to ring. I have friends in on the act. Those that will be in WDW at the same time, as well as friends who are staying back in NYC. A costume is being made. I know where the champagne can be bought.

This is going to be so nerve wracking and I don't know why! We will have been together for 13 years when I give him the ring!!! Yet, nervous big time.

And no worries, I promise I'll write a trip report upon our return.

And jerseydizdreamer, don't worry. The cliche "you'll find the one you love when you're not looking" is NOT a cliche! It's true! I knew Joe as a friend for a year before I got bonked on the head and realized I wanted to spend every waking moment with the lug. It can and does happen. Just be patient!

I have goosebumps just reading this!!! You are two lucky guys to have eachother!! All my best to both of you!!! And I will definately be looking for that trip reprt. BTW, best of everything on the WTC you have been invited to as well. Lots of PD and thoughts headed your way on both of these occasions!!!

I've tried to PM you but your box is full!! Clean it out man! Okay, that was the public service portion of your day. Now, down to business I'll try to PM you again later today, but everything is good here and the address you need from me is: deylantrow@yahoo.com

Sorry about that Lori! I've cleaned out my PM inbox so you should have no problem. Also, as promised, I sent you the deposit for the costume via PayPal. You should have received an email notice by now.

Just wanted to add my Congratulations and Best Wishes to you and Joe! Hope that your Disney trip is everything you are dreaming of. I am sure that Joe is going to be so touched by everything you have done to prepare for this big moment in your lives! Have a great trip!!:D

I also want to add my congruatulations to you and Joe for your wonderful accomplishment! 13 years is a long time by anyone's standards these days, that is quite impressive. I also have read this post page by page and it gave me goosebumps as well. I think I need to have you teach my fiance a few things about romance. You two are truly special and very lucky to have each other.

I also agree about meeting the person when you least expect it. I also met my fiance when I was not looking for love at all. I have had bad relationships in the past and just wanted time alone when he strolled into my life. I think that we are all truly lucky to have met our soulmates, it doesn't happen often, but when it does it is truly magical.

My fiance and I are also spending our honeymoon in WDW next April/May and I posted a question similar to yours. I have received many of the same answers. We are staying at the YC and I also believe that the beach in front of the YC at night is absoultely beautiful. Looking over at the Boardwalk with the lights is amazing. They do have chairs there, so that may be a nice quiet way to spend an evening.

Whatever you decide to do, I just want you to know that your post and the responses to it have given me so much hope. One of my best friends has been with his partner for 3 years but they still have problems with acceptance on a daily basis. He has always been afraid to go to WDW for fear that they would be judged or have problems, but I will let him read this post and the responses.

Again, congratulations to you and Joe, and may you have many more happy years together!

Lisa

Congratulations and best wishes!!!! I am sending a big vote for the Illuminations Cruise. Really...fireworks, champagne, on the water....couldn't get better! From reading all the posts, though, I'm sure whatever you do is going to be awesome and memorable. Pixie dust and good wishes comin' your way!!

Congratulations on your anniversary. I hope you have a wonderful time. Not that this is a romantic suggestion, but as something to rememd=ber your trip/time together. You could do a portroit sitting together. They can go to World Showcase before it opens, so there wouldn't be the gawking. I think a photo of the two of you on your anni would be wonderful. here's the thread:

Whatever you do, have a wonderful time.

Oh, I'm so glad I stumbled across this thread...

Count me as one of the goosebump/misty-eyed/sighing crowd. What fun it was to read through this entire thread! Rick, it really sounds like things are coming together for a truly amazing and magical time. I really don't have anything to add, but a stroll on the beach at the Poly has always been tops in my book. Congratulations on a wonderful 13 years and I wish you and Joe all the best for many, many more. I can't wait to read your trip report and hear all of the wonderful details!

I am so glad I found this thread-so romantic! I want to add my congratulations as well! Joe is so lucky to have found you and you him. My husband is very shy so we enjoy "privacy" at romantic times like this. Don't feel like you're hiding. I keep trying to think of things to do that are special in Disney and this thread had some great ideas! Thanks to everyone. I really liked the AKL story-Wow! Good luck, Rick!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
