A Salute to Food & Wine but Mostly Wine..12/21 FINAL THOUGHTS...a Solo Trip Adventure

I think I would like to do something at Animal Kingdom. Maybe be a safari driver, or a Backstage Safari tour guide. Something where I could work with animals, but not have to clean up any poop ;)

Me too! You might say, poop is relative. :rotfl: :lmao: ;) I pick up enough virtual carp at work that I might as well actually pick up the real thing!! What a sad state of affairs. But I would really and truly LOVE to work at WDW. Hopefully it wouldn't take away the magic.

Gorgeous photos from the Flower and Garden Festival!!! Just beautiful!!! We were there during F&G when Chelsea was 9 months old -- I think it is time to go again!

Good choices for the retirement jobs -- I would like to work in the Haunted Mansion or the Tower of Terror. :goodvibes

Beautiful photos!!! My dream job at WDW is photographer:flower3:
picking up poo...not so much:lmao: :lmao:

I LOVE taking pictures of people and stuff too... my usual subjects (my kiddos) roll their eyes at me when they see the camera coming their way:rotfl:

I think so too! Better start planning! Maybe a bonus trip for you in the spring?? :rolleyes1

Could you really stay in character at those rides? I'd be cracking up; I'd never be able to pretend to be so serious/scary! But they are cool rides!! :thumbsup2

I am quite familiar with the eye roll when my camera comes out. I would love to be photographer at WDW if I were any good. But somehow I don't think people are buying photopass to get pictures of their family that have heads cut off, are blurry etc. I need mulitple tries to get one good photo! But practice does make perfect...

Hi!! I saw you posted on my PTR so I thought I'd come over here to check out your trip plans. It reminds me so much of the trip I took in Oct. 2006 with my dad and sister, as that was a trip of firsts for us as well (first time going in October/going during the Food and Wine Festival, our first time going "home" at Saratoga Springs, and our first MNSSHP!). We had such a great time...the weather was really nice and the crowds were not bad at all. You'll love it!

I see you're going to be staying at the BCV...I am so looking forward to hearing about your time there since we're going to be there on our trip. :thumbsup2

Looking forward to more of your plans!

It occurred to me that I've done hardly any planning for my December bonus trip to WDW. I haven't really mentioned it b/c it doesn't quite seem real. But as I obsess about Oct, I realize that Dec is right around the corner and I really must get on the ball!! Goodness knows I can't head to WDW without plans that rival the detail in an armed forces invasion!

So how did a December trip come to be? Well I started a new job in May and it is crazy. Unfortunately not in a good way, but I digress. I typically take a 1-2 week vacation every July and had to cancel it this year b/c of all that was going on at work. Yes, that made me bitter. And very susceptible to "making up for it."

As you know, I already have an Oct trip planned. But I've always wanted to see WDW decked out for the holidays. And as a Disney podcast junky I've been intrigued by Mousefest-- the annual meet for Disney geeks featuring a wide variety of "Disney celebrities." And now I do have some vacation days to burn that don't carry over...

So I booked a room only reservation at Pop Century. I was trying to be economical. I've never stayed there before but it looks cool. This weekend the resort snob in me came out and I was trying to see if there was any opportunity to upgrade but at least online all the resorts appear to be booked for my dates (12/11-12/16)!!! :confused3 I thought this was a slower time of the year??

I have one ADR made. Yes, just one. Shocking, I know. Rose & Crown as part of the Candlelight Processional package. I tried for Le Cellier, San Angel Inn, Les Chefs but those were all booked. I've never been to R&C but it looks good. Monique Coleman is the narrator that night. I've never heard of her but hopefully she will be good!!

I have also booked the Yuletide Fantasy backstage tour. I don't really know too much about it but am looking forward to seeing the holiday decorations! It was ~$55 with my Disney Visa discount which seems like a pretty good deal. Of all the discounts, Dis Visa, AAA, annual pass, the operator said Disney Visa was best. I think it was 20%?

So what else do I need to worry about? Do I really want to eat all counter service or should I get some additional ADRs (IF they're even available! I'm guessing that if no hotel rooms are available then ADR's may be tough to come by!!) Or maybe I'll just take advantage of my singleton status and eat at the bar at Flying Fish, Cali Grill, Raglan Road, Wave or BlueZoo? Do you think that is an OK strategy?

Does anyone know of a resource to get the daily times guide for detail on things like Off Kilter or the holiday story-tellers or is that just something you have to wait until you are there to get?

I am so glad to have a Dec trip to look forward to after the Oct trip but I don't know what I'll do when both are done! Hopefully some of you are planning some trips for 2009 that will carry me through the blues!

Thanks for coming over! :goodvibes I'm enjoying your PTR. Of all those firsts you list the one I don't have is DVC and I have a funny feeling that I may change that when I'm there! :) Not sure where the $ is coming from but I am sure of my Disney obession!! If only that were enough!! :rotfl:

I am so excited for your December trip. I am also super excited that you are doing the Yuletide Tour! I want to do this when we go, I hope we will be able too. I can't wait to hear all about it.

If I was you, I would make some backup ADR's. Just in case. When we got down there, we really liked that time to relax during the meal. You can always cancel them if you change your mind.

We had fish n' chips in England this last trip and they were so good. I dream about them. :lmao:

Ohhhh getting closer! Really you are!

My retirement job? I love to draw, love it! I want to work in the Animator's Studio I think, or be a KTTK guide, or make treats at Goofy's Candy Company, or be a Dream Team Member! So many jobs, so little time!

Steve Soares has a site that lists all the times of everything in all of WDW. If you google his name, you should be able to find it.

The backstage tour sounds fun! I think you need a least one ADR. :thumbsup2
Did you see the booth photos over on the Food and Wine thread? Too neat!

Yeah! I am now a subscriber to your PTR. Thanks for joining mine, BTW. I think it's great that you are going twice and so close together. It's also cool that you'll get to enjoy WDW looking completely different each time, with different experiences, not offered at any time of the year. How cool is that? For the December trip, if there are places you really want to eat at, I say keep trying to get ADRs. What could also work for you is calling once you're down there. Sometimes there are openings, once you've arrived. As one person, though, you may find it easier to do walk ups than others. So, that's worth a shot, too. As you know, there are also a ton of great CS places.

I can't wait to hear all about your October trip which is almost here and then compare notes on our December trips.

BTW, I was cracking up reading about your experiences with the Snow White ride. I was like that, too. I absolutely refused to go on the ride on some of our trips, since I had been so terrified on earlier trips. To this day, I still have a hard time going around that bend where the witch turns around in all her ugliness, though I'm proud that I managed to look at her on my last trip. It's amazing how childhood experiences can still affect us. It must be the power of WDW.

One of the cool things about going solo is that you can get on all the single rider only lines or go past all those people in the long line when they have one or two seats available. Part of me always envies those people who can just by-pass everyone like that and get to enjoy the ride that much quicker.

Two trips in the next three months! :cool1: I still can't get over it. Too cool!!! :woohoo:

Raglan Road was awesome! Def worth it! And Monique Coleman is the black chick from HSM!

We've only got two ADRs made for December! :rotfl: When it's just the two of us, we hardly slow down to eat. Throw a granola bar at us and we are good!:thumbsup2

I'm looking so forward to your October trip. I want to be down there so badly for Halloween!!!

OK. This update won't be exciting for anyone other than me. But I'll tell you what. On a cruddy had-to-go-to-work-Monday with vacation seeming VERY far away, it was really nice to come to home to this:

:woohoo: :woohoo: 38 days!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

We had fish n' chips in England this last trip and they were so good. I dream about them. :lmao:

Dreams about Disney food... no better dreams! Isn't it funny how we build stuff up in our minds? I still dream about the first fettucini alfredo I had from Alfredo's (RIP). And I'm not sure it was even that great but it was a special evening with my family and it will go down in history... that's for sure!

Ohhhh getting closer! Really you are!

Yes, getting closer every day! Good picks on the jobs. Would you believe I have never even been in Goofy's Candy Co? I plan to rectify that on this trip although I don't really have a sweet tooth. :confused3

Thanks for the tip on the site. I will go check that out now. I hadn't seen the photos on the F&W thread so thanks for pointing that out too. It looks official!!

Thanks for joining! Great to have you over here. You know, I hadn't really registered how special my two trips were- 2 in 3 months and at two very distinct times of the year- until you said so. So THANK YOU for making me realize that!! :goodvibes I think one of my favorite things about WDW is that walking along I get the flashbacks to childhood memories. I love it!

Raglan Road was awesome! Def worth it! And Monique Coleman is the black chick from HSM!

Yikes. Guess I'd better break down and watch HSM!

Thanks! I'm going to check it out right now.

Mousefest registration opened today. Are you signed up? I really hope to be able to meet you and Chuck. I'll pack some granola bars just for you! ;)
