I've mentioned our Royal Botanical Gardens on threads here before. It's a gorgeous and world famous (especially the Lilac Dell) gardens, with thousands of visitors every year. My DH built the Mediterranean Greenhouse many years ago.

Yesterday a grade 5 class was on a school outing at the gardens, one group out of approx. 200 children who had toured the park that day.

It was a very windy day here, and a powerful gust of wind (perhaps a micro burst), blew down a large tree and killed a 10 year old boy. :( Three other students suffered minor injuries.

Such a tragic and freak occurence at a place of such beauty. :(

That poor little boy, and his devastated family. My heart goes out to them.

:(

What a tragic situation, I hope that doesn't lead to the garden being closed down.

This is such a sad story.

I had never heard of a micro burst before.

My hope is that there will be a memorial for the youngster.

That is very tragic.

Something very similar happened here the beginning of this summer when some kids were waiting for the camp bus to take them home. A large branch broke off a tree and killed a young boy as he sat on the ground next to his older sister. She was okay... physically.

Very sad.....Very tragic... :(

OMG! What a horribly sad story!

My heart goes out to the family of the child, the children on the trip....the teachers...everyone.

OMG! What a horrible accident!

My thoughts and prayers goes out to his family and friends and all those kids on the trip with him. They must be all devastated.
