While I highly suspect this will not be our first time at DHS on our trip (there will probably be a morning or afternoon we head over there before this
) it will be our first planned day in the park. Also our only planned day.
So what to do first?
Well, from everything Ive read, it looks like well be in line to see Toy Story Mania! Im really hoping the crowds will be minimal, because I dont want to miss out on this, ToT, or RRC! Since it has been sooooo long since Ive been to Disney, the only ride Ive actually been on here is ToT. Well, of the headliners. I love it too, just the theming alone as you wait in the lobby is spectacular on its own.
Short little side story about ToT though. Back when it first opened, or at least the first time I rode it, was in the early 1990s. At that time, there was a single bar that came across each row. So you and the people sitting next to you in your row shared a bar. I remember one time on the ride with my younger cousin, who was just a beanpole at the time (Hes now 6ft 4 ) where he almost fell OUT of the seat, as the woman sitting next to both of us was considerably larger than he was.
That was quite the scary experience!
Still one of my favorite rides ..
Anyway, were planning on checking out at least the Little Mermaid show, and getting lunch at the Brown Derby to use up some of those DDP credits and maximize our time in the park. Im probably going to have to try the Cobb salad, even though Im not usually a fan of deli platter on top of a salad. I also hear the atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, and Im sure well appreciate air conditioning, the forecasts seem to all call for super humidity and temps around 90 every day.
Another cant-miss for me here at DHS is Muppetvision 3D. I absolutely adore the Muppets . perhaps, dare I say it, even more than Mickey Mouse!
(*ducks to escape flying shoes*
) Mike has never experienced this ride, so its one I really want to share with him!
This evening, we will be spending our last Disney Dinner at the California Grille, which includes my third and final surprise for my DH! As this is our last night here (booo!) well be doing it up in style on the rooftop with I hope a nice bottle of wine and what Mike thinks will be the best dinner we have. (Hes pretty much in love with the menu. I suspect its the scallops.
) Im super excited to watch wishes from a different vantage point.
So after dinner, comes the surprise. Ive arranged with the bakery at the Contemporary Resort to create a special treat for Mike in honor of our anniversary. He loves old black and white cartoons, especially those with Steamboat Willie. So, a bout a month ago, I contacted the cake hotline and worked with a pastry chef to design a custom cake for him. It will be black and white, with a film reel around the base, highlighting different scenes from old classic Disney cartoons, as well as our Monogram and Wedding Date.
Then, on top of the cake, Steamboat Willie himself! The cake itself will be chocolate with peanut butter mousse filling, his favorite flavor combo. (Though I warn you all now, my dining review of this cake will have to rely heavily on his imput
since I really cant stand chocolate peanut butter flavors together. Yes, I know, there is something very wrong with me, but there you have it!)
So depending on when timing works out, well either watch the fireworks from our table or outside on the terrace, and share some of our favorite moments with each other from our trip. Its home again, home again, but not before one last day to soak it all in....
