A+ Rewards Credit redemption

After our flight down to MCO I should have enough credits for a business class upgrade for our flight home. Does anyone know how to go about redeeming the credits - is it something I do online. Also I think I can call to use the upgrade after midnight the day before my flight leaves. Is it possible to upgrade my husband for cash at that time or would I need to wait until 24hr check in to do so?

Each time you reach a threshold for 1 credit on the CC, they automatically transfer a credit to your A+ account. Spend $1000 and they give you 1 A+ credit. You don't redeem anything from the credit card. Just call AirTran at 12:01 am the day before the flight to upgrade using 4 credits. I don't think you would can pay for an upgrade at that point, you would have to do that for your husband at the 24 hour mark.
 
I just redeemed credits for our flights down in August. I had called them previously to ask a couple of questions about the process & the person had told me I could call after midnight on the day before our flight. (Our flight was at 7:10 am on a Sun. so she told me I could call at 12:01 am Sat.). So Fri. night I stay up 'till midnight...called...first person says NO you have to call within 24 hrs. of your flight. :headache: Grrrr. :mad: I hang up. Call back. WHAT are the ODDS - but the same person answers the line!!:rolleyes1 In a panic I hung up! :rotfl: OMG I just crank called Air Tran in the middle of the night! :lmao: Oh boy! Called back a 3rd time...this time I get someone who listens patiently while I explain I was told I could call at midnight etc. and says she can do a one-time waiver blah, blah, blah. But TECHNICALLY she says I should wait for the 24 hrs.:confused3 Anyway, she did it for me but just know that you COULD be told to call back.
 
Thanks Annie and dioxide. I'll probably end up calling at 24hrs just to be sure DH can get a business class seat. It would not work well for me to get one and him not to.

Secondly, I upgrade with credits to business class pretty much every time I fly Airtran. I always call at midnight the day before my flight and have never had the problem you ran into. I called last week to ask if I could have someone other than me call at midnight to do the upgrade for me and was told not a problem...just make sure they have my rewards and voucher numbers. Soooo....I do believe you were given a hard time for no reason. However, you would not be able to pay for an upgrade until 24 hours before.

No you do not need to, however, the agents have always seemed pleased that I already have the voucher in my account. My guess is that it just saves them a little work. From your A Plus rewards account, all you need to do is go to redeem other rewards and plug in that you want a business class upgrade and it will charge you 4 credits and place the voucher in your account for use in the next year and also send you a confirmation email.

I wasn't sure about the answer on this one so I called AirTran and here's what they said. They said as long as the person you are paying for is on the same reservation as the one that you are using the voucher for that should be ok. Not a 100% yes, but she said you should be able to. Usually she said this is supposed to be done online but they would make an exception since one was upgrading with a voucher. Hope this helps!
