Hi,
I just got back from a recent visit to WDW where I spent three days visiting all the resorts. I looked around, took the buses, talked to guests and CMs. My home base was POP, but here is what I found out about Fort Wilderness.
It's a huge place, but really awesome. If you love camping, you'll love Ft. Wilderness. It's camping with style (Disney style, too). Even if you don't like camping (like me), you could love it here. There are "comfort stations" around the resort where guests can take showers, use the potty, dry their hair.
I did not get to see the inside of the cabins, but they look really nice on the outside. I spoke to a guest staying in a cabin and he said that he loved it. A lot more space than a regular room and not too expensive (he paid $200/night). He was on his way to the Settlement to buy some eggs and milk for breakfast at the store. He did recommend renting a golf cart to get around (they are $44/day and you need to reserve them in advance). I found the buses pretty good though.
The bus ride from the Outpost (at one end) to the Settlement (at the other end) is 10 minutes. The Meadow is in the middle and that's where you can find the Chip and Dale Campfire program, one of the pools, a playground.
When you get off the bus at the Settlement, it is a 5 minute walk to the Marina to catch the boat to Magic Kingdom and barely a 2 minute walk to the Hoop De Doo.
There is a lot to do at Ft. Wilderness. During the day there are activities like arts and crafts, a pool party, frisbee, watercraft rental, fishing excursions, and so much more.
