Last time I rented was in 2004. A lot has changed since then!
I want to rent again. My husband works for General Motors and they offer discounting tickets so we would like to buy tickets thru GM. I am curious about the DDP. I believe I saw you do NOT need to buy it as park of the ticket plan if you are using DVC.
Can someone tell me the price of the DDP? Family of 4 - 2 adults, 2 kids under 10. I need to plan to add that cost to the points rental (hoping I can still get $10/point).
Do you DVC owners recommend the DDP? Last time we ate both breakfast and lunch in our room. We went to the grocery store the 1st day and stocked up. I think I saved all the info on what we spent at the store and for food at the resort. I'll check to see how much we spent to see if it makes sense to do DDP. My kids are older this time (not napping anymore) so we may not need to come back daily at lunch time for naps. But we did like coming back to swim and shower b4 heading back out for dinner at the parks.
Anyway, I'm sorry if this has been asked to death already! After 2004 I haven't been on much. Just out of curiosity, do they still have that program where they pick you up at the airport and bring you & your bags back to your room? I can't remember what it was called. I am JUST starting my planning so give me a month & I'll be the expert I was last time, but this time I'm lazier. I'm asking instead of doing my own research!!
Thank you thank you thank you!!

Note: This post has been edited to remove rental info for resort, room size and dates. All such info in posts are limited to the rent/trade board. Thanks, Chuck S.

You can get the DDP (standard or deluxe) without the requirement of a ticket purchase if you are staying on points at a DVC resort.

Here are links to download brochures of the two plans, they will give the costs and details of each plan. Right click on the link to download the brochures. They are in .pdf format for Adobe.

If you are renting a DVC reservation from a DVC owner, the owner will need to add the DDP to your reservations. You will pay for the plan when you check into your resort. All guests in the room must be on the same DDP for the length of the reservation.

Disney's Magical Express from Orlando Airport to your resort is still available, and still free. Again, the DVC owner will need to contact member services to add Magical Express for you. DVC Member Services will no longer speak to non-owners. You can not confirm your reservation or make any room requests, except through the DVC owner.

Thanks so much Chuck!
And sorry for posting TMI! Newbie - forgive me! LOL!

Erin - just a heads up. Member services will no longer talk to renters. Any changes or additions (DDP, ME, etc.) can only be added by the member.

That's a big change from a couple of years ago.

No biggie. I never spoke to member services in the past. I just told the DVC'er what I wanted, they got it for me and that was the end of it. At the last minute I did need to contact my DVC'er b/c it was during Hurricane Jeanne and we missed our first day but they handled it and cancelled the ressie no problem. I've seen a few posts abut people not wanting to rent points but my experience was great. Then again, I did my homework! So that probably helped!
I'm already getting obsessed again! Getting my spreadsheet out, etc! SOMEBODY STOP ME!

P.S. Love all the new smilies!

There are some interesting discussions currently ongoing regarding renting on the DVC operations board at the moment which may be helpful to you, ErinInCT.
And the R/T board would also be helpful as well (sticky's are very informative)

as to whether the DDP is worth it, it really depends....
there is a lot of discussion about the pros/cons on the DDP board ~ best way to find out it its good for you is to add up what you would order if paying at table service (include entree, beverage, tax, & dessert if applicable).
then, add in counter service & a snack (under $4), all plus tax.
you can check the menus & prices here:

DDP tends to be less of a value if used mainly for buffets, breakfasts (& some lunches), or signature TS's (requiring 2 credits). of course :) , if your family prefers CS style meals all day, or eating off-site or in the room, the value won't be there either.

DDP (even the 2008 plan without appy or tip :guilty: ) remains a good value for us, as two adults who enjoy a nice dinner to end our day (our dinner will norm equal or exceed the price we paid for the DDP per night). staying at the BWVs, we just stroll (literally...we refuse to run in WDW :cool1: lol) to world showcase for food & illuminations. CS & snack are just added bonuses :woohoo:

hth :)
