A reminder who started the FE magic

yeah....there is NO cruise meet thread or FE thread here for our upcoming, peak sailing week, cruise......thankfully, this falls into the "not my problem, my ddil will handle it" division!

I'm in the same boat and have learned so much here, and just discovered the other sites group.

I'm guessing some while ago there must have been quite a feud that continues today, seeing how we aren't "allowed" to mention the opposite site on each.... Whatever it was, people are very obviously still bitter about it!

I run a cruise meets thread here and also part of a cruise meets thread, "elsewhere" , the Dis thread, I try to keep going but it can be a bit like resuscitation, at times, a few loyal posters. The other one is very active 140+ members who choose to post there. Very active and posts every minute.

Here we can't mention there, there we mention the Dis all the time, I have posted links to here 2/3 times today.

Some other groups do choose not to mention, here, re the policy here.

The FE was started by this lady, using the main social media ( here) available st that time. FB only started in 2004, if FB had the use in 2005, as it dies today, she may well have chosen to post on FB.

NO one " owns" FE, it was inspired by one person, credit to her, not the vehicle she used at that time.

I have said before, you can stand on the beach and demand the sea doesn't come in, if the tide is strong, you cannot stop it, - that's free speech, that's social media, where your a " Google" search away.

Yes people are bitter about it, it caused serious reputation damage here, but it's thier sandpit, thry choose who has the toys.

I learned that it isn't just here that you can't mention the FB groups. Another huge forum doesn't allow FB links either. I totally understand.

She deserves credit. What she doesn't deserve is people trying to persuade others that it is their own idea since they are mad at the DIS.

Once again, my whole point of this thread was to educate people of the origin of the FE. I really didn't want a debate over the changing times.

I appreciate DISboards being a wealth of information and have learned a lot here but I stick around for the support I found on the runDisney board. I love that a Debbie came up with the idea because it's such a cool thing to do and it brings a little Disney Magic (or Wonder/Fantasy/Dream) from one Disney fan to another. My first cruise doing FE was on here and I greatly preferred the format to the ones of other sites. That being said many people decide to do cruise meets and FE groups on these other sites and set them up farther in advance so that by the time a DISboards thread gets going people prefer to use the one already on that other site. I appreciate that the rules about only linking FEs on here exist due to problems that arose (thanks @PrincessShmoo for explaining that a few months back) but it does make me sad when people come to DISboards looking to join an FE and can't because there isn't one happening on the boards. That is why I can see how a newbie to the boards may leave when there isn't a cruise meet and they're told you can't post outside links here or even discover where they are because while these policies are in place to protect members they come off as being more 'you can only do FE through DISboards' and 'we don't want our members looking for FE groups elsewhere'. I understand that's not the intention at all but it sometimes comes off that way.

On another note:

On FB people can't hide behind a fake name, have to tell the truth, or be found out quickly, it's more secure as you have to be a member of that cruise group and be accepted by administrators, and so posting private information and family photos can't be seen by all unless you choose that.

This was what made me uncomfortable with facebook groups. I mentioned it before but I usually make up fake names when joining the FE group and I actually don't even join the corresponding facebook group most of the time.
