You're saying that a FB group changed it, but a bunch of the things you listed as negative are done HERE. That's not FB's fault.
And...everything changes as it gets bigger or more popular. I'm reminded of my dad's rant as we drove through Arizona and stopped in a town called Quartzite. He's still just so angry that they have a mayor now. A mayor of all things. He loved it when it was just a hippie commune type of place. But time moves on, too many people show up, rules *have to happen*, etc etc.
But the way one person runs a FE group doesn't have anything to do with how another group is run. Any group can run theirs any old way they want to run it.
Agree.
Credit to " Debbie, who had the idea and started it, she was posting under the name EpcotKilterFan via these boards, note via these boards, that's the route she choose and not created by the Dis or owned by the Dis.
Facebook started in February 2004, it was not widespread then. She started it in 2005, and popular use of FB started far later, and people using FB for cruise meets didn't establish itself until years later.
At that time message boards like this were at there peak, they started a lot earlier, but message forums are now bulky, are considered past there peak, and you can do so much more on social media.
On FB people can't hide behind a fake name, have to tell the truth, or be found out quickly, it's more secure as you have to be a member of that cruise group and be accepted by administrators, and so posting private information and family photos can't be seen by all unless you choose that.
Here a few who are not on your cruise, will jump in on FE rules etc, and put people off posting on the threads here.
My cruise in July, I have made great efforts to keep the Dis cruise meets thread going, and it has limited posts here, but we are active " elsewhere with 140 members who choose to post there. The posting guidelines here seem to have made it " impossible for many to post here and there, so they choose elsewhere.
In social media, it's accepted message boards have had there day, many are closing down, many now have one or two regular prolific posters and new people come, ask a question, meet up and go.
Technology gets more specific each month, maybe each day, if you want to stand in the sea and tell if not to come in, you can, but it will always come in. You can't stop it.
FEs were started by a cleaver person, using a message board, not owned by anyone, but many enjoy them nowadays.
Maybe FB will get replaced in the future, like message boards and blogs, it's people's choice.
