We are in the beginning stages of redoing our home office in a "grownup" Disney theme. We choose a great shade of red for the walls (or maybe just 1 or two walls?) yet I am so nervous about going with red! Anyone want to calm my fears?!

As long as the room has a lot of natural light during the day, and light wood or other material furniture, I think it sounds like a great idea!!! I want a red home office/library/computer room one day. But trust me on the light furnishings and lots of natural light... I know someone with a burnt orange colored home office. They have these dark wood bookcases and a dark wood desk with a black leather club chair and ottoman, and only a small window. I go in there and I am like, "Get me out of here!!!" The colors literally engulf you. IMO, if you have only a small window or dark furnishings, stick with painting only one wall and bringing the red color into the room in other ways.

:thumbsup2 Good luck!!!

One of my dearest friends has one and I love it! (and I don't particularly like red) It's a big room with high ceilings and it looks really, really good.

I am ten years into a blood red living room. I agree that you need plenty of light, ideally natural light, to make it work. We are actually ready to try something new, but I have been happy with it. The other thing to realize is that most red paints will require a quality primer and as many as four coats to get decent coverage. It might take twice as much paint as you expect but it will be rich and beautiful when you are done.

Our living room is red. I, too, was afraid to do it at first especially it being the room that we spend the most time in. The above poster is correct in that you do need natural light and lighter furnishings for it to "work". We have four windows in our living room, a beige carpet, beige furniture, etc. I LOVE it and most everyone who comes to our home loves it, too. (You can always tell the ones who don't--they just don't comment.;) ) It is a very warm, cozy room. Go for it!:thumbsup2

I had one red wall in my bedroom in high school. It was a great accent wall and I loved it!!!!!!

:wave2: Hi again, neighbor! May I ask what other colors they have in the room, such as the trim color and window treatment colors?

There is a lot of natural light, especially with the sliders onto the deck. :upsidedow

I had an Orange - and I mean Crayon Orange, not rust - colored room. 2 walls orange, 2 walls Ralph Lauren Silver.....and not grey, shimmery silver.

It was freaking cool! :thumbsup2

Heh, we keep following each other around.

Letsee- on the back wall is a large slider/french-doors kind of deal with one of those half-circle windows above the doors. On one wall is 2 stained glass windows (old victorian) No window treatments. (not needed with the fenced backyard and the stained glass does its own job) The other wall is an interior wall and has no windows.

She kept the trim a dark stain to match the existing trim around the stained glass windows. Furnishings were creamy taupe and charcoal. Hardwood floors in a natural finish.

Anyone have pics of their red rooms they'd like to share here?! :upsidedow

popcorn:: Howdy Stranger! Long time no talk to, I was just thinking about you the other day, how you been?

As I type this I am on vacation at a friend's house in her red kitchen. It is a dark red with white trim and I love it. In my last house I had a burgandy/red bedroom and loved it. I am going to have a Disney bedroom when I get around to painting my bedroom and think I will go with tan on 3 walls and red for the one main focal wall behind the bed.

So GO FOR IT! And post pictures when you are done!

And quit being such a stranger on the CB--the popcorn:: is low around here!!

I love, love, love my red family room. It was a pain to get on - even with a tinted primer we were still streaky after 4 coats. But it was so worth it. It's such a cozy room. Of course color doesn't scare me. My room isn't huge with tons of light or a really high ceiling either and I have yet to see a horrified reaction to the room.

I'll try to post some pics. later.

I have pics - but no scanner...

Ill see if I cant figure something out, and post it.

It was such a fun room to just sit in and look at - cuz it was just so FUN!

And I had one of those IKEA Orange couches, too. :lmao:

Then I took a big, like 11 x13 mirror, and hot glued all these different colored glass beads randomly around the edge. It was really FUN!

BUt the mirror broke.... and we moved. :confused3 :rotfl:
