I was toying with the idea of going down for DS 13th b-day. It would only be him and I going.

I was looking at going on Friday Jan 31 and coming home on Feb 2. Pick him up at 130 from school and being on a place at 5:00pm. Spend all day Saturday (his Birthday) at the park of his choice. Then flying home on Sunday morning. We would only be there for about 36 hours.

It would cost about $600 for the trip and that would be his present.

Is it worth it?

Shortest trip you have ever taken?

Shortest trip we ever took to WDW was 2 nights at BWV. Booked it while we were driving down. It was our first DVC stay and it was awesome!!

Yes, it is worth it. Enjoy your trip!!

He is my son from a previous relationship. (We have joint physical care. We have him 26 weeks a year.)

Many times he is not allowed to go on trips with us, as his mom won't allow him. He went on our DCL Cruise in 2010, but she has not allowed him to go on any since then.

I know he would enjoy it. I wouldn't tell him until the day we leave. I just don't know if its worth the cost for 36 hours.

Definitely tempting to do….do you have park tix already or is that included in that $600 cost you gave?? If you have an AP for yourself at least that would probably seal it for me. Our shortest trip(s) so far have been for 4 nights / 3 days - our 3rd one is coming up over MLK weekend. We took DS once for his 12th birthday (but the trip was for the following weekend which was over Memorial Day and we added 1 extra day to make it a 4 n trip). The birthday trip was fun tho because we told them at check-in that it was his birthday so he got the birthday button to wear and EVERYBODY wished him a happy birthday - not just CM's. I am inclined to say that the $600 would be worthwhile if he rarely gets to go on your other trips - it would make this one more special (not only as #13 but also a bonding experience.

And to answer your other question, that's the same length as the shortest trip I've ever taken. My first solo trip-a Mother's Day "Mom's weekend". Got there Friday night. Spent all day Saturday in one park, came home Sunday. And we also live about 1400 miles from WDW. Considering the memories, I agree you should do it!

Our shortest trip was 5 nights. For $600 and a 13th bday, I say go for it! My DD spent her 11th bday in Disney and loved it.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

The flight would be $330 for both of us. We have a few FF miles for 1 ticket.

The park tickets would be $200 roughly. I could easily talk to the grandmas and get them to buy the ticket, $50 each. So it would only be my ticket to pay for.

Then the cost of food. I thought about making a reservation for dinner at both MK and Epcot and cancel the reservation for the park he doesn't choose.

Sounds like you've got a good plan coming together! I'm sure you will BOTH enjoy the time together!

We do short trips like the from time to time. As long as you know going in that its short & you have a focus on why you are there its great. (I just did 2 nights at the Swan the 26th to 28th for my husband's 30th & we had a great time even it being the busiest week of the year)

DW and I several times have been at DTD for the day and decided we wanted to stay the night. Called the resorts directly (back before MS was open on Sundays) or MS and checked in within 15 minutes.
In and out in under 20 hours.

Wow, I would definitely do the trip, if it were possible! It sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate!

I have owned since 1993....and the shortest trip was three nights.

Next year...before Christmas I will have many from my family...there at WDW. Each time has been unique...hoping to get a Grand Villa so a number can come and stay on the spur of the moment that live in FL.

Since your custody is shared....hopefully your ex will allow this trip with no problems....if cleared already ...."go for it and make a special memory with your son". Those memories are important in years to come.

Good luck on all your plans for that special trip.

Don't mean to get into TMI, since I know parents have to sign off for cruises. However, unless it's specified in agreement you can't take son out of state without spousal approval, not sure why it should be a problem to take him on a family vacation during one of the 26 weeks you have physical custody unless it's a scheduling conflict you can't work around or ex is un-fairly preventing such travel (which an agreement modification could remedy btw)

Regardless, if it's worth it to you both, go for it if it gives you joy.

Our shortest Disney only trip was two nights (for three full days) but that was when we have cheap airfare/DVC points to burn & APs so not as expensive.

Our shortest trip was 1 night. We flew out on a Saturday morning and were in a park by noon. We flew home Sunday night and were home by 10pm. We stayed at BWV. We used DVC points and our AP.

I hope this works out for you, it sounds like it would be a nice trip!

I did this with my DS twice. We stayed only for 3 nights each trip. We had our annual passes that year and good deals on airfare (one time we had enough frequent flier miles for our tickets and the other time we got crazy cheap airfare.... I think it was $80 round trip a ticket.) We had the best time, just the two of us hanging out a WDW. Awesome memories that I wouldn't trade for anything.

Do you have to get permission from her for this trip?

Sounds like a great time for both of you!!

Enjoy your time with your son, whatever you decide.
