After our first 5 nights at Disney's Wilderness Lodge we stayed 8 nights at the RPR from Sep. 13 to Sep. 21.
we took a cab to get there (cabs are so luxurious and cheap there, only 50$!). We arrived in the afternoon after some hot hours at Blizzard Beach so we were quite tired.
After getting out of the cab, staff was very helpful with our luggage, but we prefer to get our suitcases to the room by ourself.
Walking on the bridge to the doors for the first time is a nice feeling. Check in was very quick, the employee did his best to get us a requested room on a high floor (so the rooms seem not to be assigned like Disney does). Our request was met and we had a room in tower 3 on level 5. The last but two room on the left side of the hallway.
After the first nights we realized that the hotel is badly soundproofed. Not many rooms were occupied, but when people walked along the hallway talking to each other, it was like they walk through your room. Also, the doors "slam" on their own, if the room next to you closes the door, the slam-noise is a little loud. So we were very happy to stay in one of the last rooms on the hallway, not many people walked along our door.
The view was nice, when we looked to the right there was a street but we have not heard any noise from there.
NO PROBLEM with the noise, these were just minor issues we recognized. I used the laundry one day and I felt so bad for the people staying in the rooms next to it because this door was slammed a lot.
When the employee at check-in told us that the room is all across the hallway we first wanted to ask for another room, but the walk is not very long. Not a minute from the elevator.
The resort is lush (a word I learned during our vacation) themed, the room was spacious and well cleaned - we liked it a lot. Housekeeping did a great job, we requested turn-down service and we always got 2 small bottles of water and a bed ready to slip in.
Prices for breakfast a very high, so we bought some food and drinks at Wal Mart.
The pool is gorgeous and very large. They provided sunscreen and iced water and in the morning they offered to prepare your lounger with towels - great!
In the hot tub we felt like in soup bowl because it was really hot. We spend the most time in the hot tub when being at the pool because it had a very therapeutic effect for your feet after walking the whole day. I had a cocktail with banana taste for 18 $ (I first thought the server is joking) which was the worst cocktail I ever had.
They had a movie at the pool every night.
The walk to the parks is quite short and when there is no boat shuttle in sight, we used our feet to get to the parks.
We used the shuttle to Busch Gardens which was very easy to book. We walked to Wet n Wild which was not a good idea because the first 200m are withouth a walkway and it was a little dangerous to run with flip-flops accross the streets.
All in all the resort is really nice, we loved it and would love to stay there again. We did not make any comparisons to the WL we stayed before because we did not want to compare "Äpfel mit Birnen" like we say.
Like stated above the noises from the hallways were not a problem, but there were 3 things we stated to an employee when checking out.
First, no free WiFi at the rooms, just in the lobby. Really?
Second, we put all our stuff into the mini bar and put all the mini-bar stuff into a drawer. 3 days later, we had a note in our room. It said that we should take all our stuff from the fridge and put the mini-bar-items back into it. Otherwise, they will do it for us and throw our things away - an additional 30 $ would be put on our room bill then. We should rent a fridge for 15 $/night.
We were a little annoyed by this letter, especially by the way it was written and by the "we throw your items away"-passage. We called concierge and I told them that it is the most ridiculous letter I ever had to read. I told them never to touch our belongings, even they would be in the fridge for the rest of the stay.
we calmed down a little and put our things out of the mini bar later and put their heavy mega overprized items back in it. They offered us a free fridge for the rest of our stay. When mentioning the issue at check out, the employee was very sorry for the letter and offered us a free breakfast - nice way to say sorry for it. It would have been OK if we would have been informed at check-in or by a note in the mini bar, but this dumb letter in our room we received was rather unfriendly and not something we expected by paying a lot of $ for the room.
now, let's get to the last issue. the fire-alarm on the ceiling. It had two little green lights flashing all night long, about all 10 seconds. Sometimes just once, sometimes both lights 3times in a row. When I closed my eyes, I still recognized the flashes, depending on how my head was positioned on the pillow. I wanted to remove the batteries but I did not, because in case of fire it would be very bad without batteries
Did anyone else realized those lights??? I can not believe that I have never read on here. I have no problems to fall asleep, but this periodical flashing was quite annoying and I did not get used to it. The employeed let us know that a lot of guests complain about it - they really need to exchange them!
But like stated above, the resort was very great, all the staff was helpful and the value is outstanding - Express Passes for the whole stay saves you a lot of $$$. The possibility to walk or take the boat to the parks and the city walk is awesome. Concierge helped us with maps and bus connections and gave us some other helpful information. I hope I can stay at this hotel once again, but I would like to try the HRH out, too.
