A Question of Size

After a couple of years of hard work I've dropped 60lbs, but I'm still hovering around 299. I carry most of the weight in my middle and my bottom, and I am 5'6.

Given those paramaters how many issues am I going to have with rides?
I'm seriously considering dumping Disney until they get through whatever this midlife crisis they're having is, but I don't want to blow my money on parks that aren't made for "someone like me" either.

Edit: And that's what I get for having two forum tabs open at once - mods can you move this to the Universal parks section please?

I can't find the big long Forbidden Journey-centric (but the conversation went to other rides) thread, but there has been one! It's a good place to read (backwards, since the beginning of FJ didn't have the extended seat restraints so the early info isn't useful now) because lots of people give their sizes and what worked and didn't work for them.

I haven't totally checked it out (can't remember the content), but this thread (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3060633) might do the same.

You're female, right? Helps to understand proportions and such. :)

I personally am not sure, given your stats. Hate to be wishy washy, but I think it's going to really depend on what rides you're interested in, etc. I know that others will chime in, though. :)

That said, my husband can't ride any of the "big" rides yet, but LOVES Universal. He'll probably never be able to ride The Mummy, because of the Disneyland-Space-Mountain-like seating but with an even narrower lap bar for his legs to fit in, but he'll likely be able to ride more as his losses continue. He loves the whole place, and while it does bother him that he can't yet ride everything he wants to ride, the rest of the parks and resorts still make him happy.

He's 5'10" and figures he'll be able to ride more when he's 300, but that 4 extra inches gives him more wiggle room. Then again he carries his weight everywhere, which gives him LESS wiggle room on rides that only have one problem spot with the restraint. Does that make sense?

Yeah, I'm female.
I'll check out the link you gave, thank you.
I'm not interested in twisty Roller Coasters... though Dueling Dragons might be something I'd be willing to try (for the HP angel) if I fit, on the other hand while I really want to ride FJ, I don't mind missing DD.

I'd really like to ride Mummy, Spider Man, Despicable Me, Men in Black, ET.
Not so much a thrill ride junky as I am an immersion junkie. Oh and with the Mummy, if it helps I've never had a lick of trouble on Space even when I was bigger - and I rode EE in AK with no issues as well.

The only ride at WDW that every gave me even a lick of problems was Dinasour, and even then it was a bit snug, but not a big deal. Don't know if that will help - but thought it might.

All of that said, it's not so much a matter of which rides I want to ride, as knowing that there will still be enough to give me something to know in the two parks over the course of two to four days.

I'm a large lady. You will not have trouble with MIB, Spiderman, or ET. Despicable me may be a problem. I went on it but they lower the bars really far and I didn't enjoy the ride at all because I was being cut in half. Try the outside test seat at the mummy. May or may not work for you. I couldn't ride FJ. But test the seat, you may be built different. Universal is just not as fat friendly as disney.

I don't think you'll have a problem with most of your "really like to ride" rides. The Mummy *maybe*, but I don't think so. Dh has a problem with it because he's built like a sumo, with tree trunk legs that won't go inside the upside-down-U shaped lapbar, which has to happen to get it to go under his belly. I doubt you're anywhere near that. :)

Spiderman, NOT a problem. It's a big lap bar that goes over everyone, and it's generous. It'll be more like Primeval Whirl if you've ridden that, except the bar is straight and you don't have to do weird things with your torso and arms to get into the bar like on PW. :) Despicable hasn't been an issue even when it was Jimmy Neutron, MIB is no problem.

ET is weird because each person is sitting on a big wide bicycle sort of seat, but then it's just an individual lap bar.

FJ has the outer seats with a more generous restraint setting now. Especially if your size is in your lower body you might have no problems with those seats. :)

Dragon Challenge is more challenging. And terrifying.

For all the more challenging rides, size-wise, they have test seats outside. Use them. Have fun with them. Take pictures, etc. With FJ if you get the marker to yellow then you're good to go with the outer seats. If it's red, just expect that you'll be heading to the exit right before the sorting hat, while your sweetie goes on the ride.

Either way it will be fun to look around =)
But I don't have to worry about ride envy - if I can't fit she wont either she's bigger then I am.
