Just a quick question for any UK brides on here:

I will be travelling from Scotland to Florida next September and am still weighing up my options for either shipping my dress or taking it with me!

I already know for sure I cant take it on as hand luggage (too big) but my friend I will be travelling with works for Continental and assures me she can arrange to let me carry it on the flight and they can hang it up on board for me. I am still considering the shipping option, this would probably be an expense but one I am prepared to accept.

I really like the idea of having the dress with me when im travelling but I know it will probably be a little bit of a pain carrying it through the airport!

Would love to know what you guys did and would love advice on the shipping especially and how Disney accomodates this?

Thanks girls xxxx

if you shipped it there would you ship it home again? I think you would be surprised how much that'll cost becuase you'll prob get an import fee which would be quite a lot.

Are you sure your dress is too big to carry on? My dress was huge and I got it into a carry on sized suitcase with no problems.

As Claire said, it would have to be a huge dress to not fit in one of the special boxes available all over the internet which are specificaly designed for wedding dresses, and are the correct proportions to fit in an overhead locker and comply with the hand-luggage size restrictions.
I plan on having my dress boutique pack my dress into one of these boxes (they are the experts at folding and packing dresses into boxes) and I will not open it again until we are in our room at WDW. It will be with me at all times whilst on the plane (we are flying with Virgin) - I will not let it out of my sight!!!

Thanks girls.

I have already spoken to the shop who are keeping my dress, its a Justin Alexander Dress with a huge tulle skirt and they have already told me that it wont fit into the box for hand luggage size BOO! My other option would be to take on board on a hanger and leave with the cabin crew. Obviously I would need to carry this with me through the airport which would mean it would be with me and it weighs 3kg but much better than shipping it I think!

I was a little surprised when they told me it would be too big, as I said it is a big dress but only a UK size 8, im due to go for a fitting next week so will check with them again because im no too keen on the shipping, for those costs I could pay for the dress to travel first class ha ha!

Hi, first of all congrats on your big day coming up and I hope u have as fantastic a time as I did. I am from Northern England too and I got married at the Wedding Pavillion (with 25 relatives and friends in toe) 15 years ago. I flew Virgin and I packaged my dress to perfection and carried it on the plane with me, as I did the flowers too. I neva had any probs atall and my packaged dress and flowers arrived safely in Florida. On a lighter note, one of our leather suit bags went missing at Orlando Int Airport and it just so turned out that one of Richard Branson's entourage who were travelling on the plane with Richard himself had picked it up by mistake. Thankfully it was delivered back to my resort the following morning with a letter of apology. I had a magical Disney wedding, and I don't care how corny that sounds!!! haha....I hope you do too!

I would keep it with you if I were you. I can put mine in one of the boxes as it's only a short dress. However, I would have it hung up by the stewards if that were not an option. The thought of shipping it would freak me out incase anything went wrong.

Have you got a photo/picture of your dress, or a link to it?

To give you an idea this is how big mine was...

My dress has a pretty big train on it (similar to Claire's) and the bodice is pretty much solid beadwork. But I found an amazing (pink!!) leather roll on case that is just within hand luggage size. And I can just about get my dress in!

I was worried it'd be hard to carry in a box as it weighs over a stone but now I can wheel it everywhere and I get pretty new luggage!
