I am traveling to WDW in June and was wondering whether the hair dryers in the disney hotels are any good. My hair is quite thick and can take a while to dry so I wasn't sure whether to take my own.

Also is it worth taking after-sun with you or just using a normal moisturiser?

As for make-up I usually wear foundation, powder, mascara a bit of everything really. Having not been to Florida before what do people usually take to wear in the day?

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi Debbie,

I am staying in Saratoga Springs at the moment and the hairdryer in the 1 bedroom villa is perfectly fine. I have thick coarse hair and there are 3 settings on the dryer, cool, medium and hot and there are all fine.

I usually wear foundation, blush, mascara etc and find that after a few days in the sun I just use mascara and eyeliner and lipstick. Foundation and the usual stuff for the evenings going out for a meal.

They are having really hot weather here at the moment. It's been 96degrees today so its really hard to keep the make-up looking fresh so I'm just putting it on for going out in the evenings.

Hope this helps

Haven't stayed in a Disney hotel so can't help with hairdryers
I would say definitely after sun, the first time we went my son got sunburn and that was in February! I am a full make-up girl, but I do tend to go without foundation and powder in Florida and just do mascara or I have eyelashes and eyebrows dyed before I go. I do still take my full make-up with me as I sometimes put it on the evening.
You will have a great time!:cool1::cool1:

I can't help with the hair dryer, but I won't be wearing make up on my face in the day as it will make it tricky to re-apply suncream.

And I will definitely be taking aftersun, and keeping it in the fridge. :)

Yes aftersun is a must have after a day in the Florida sunshine. As for hairdryers the ones at Disney are great. With regards to make up I never wear any during the day even at home and sometimes in the warm summer evenings in Florida it is hard to wear when going out for a meal.

Claire ;)

Hi Debbie!
The hairdryers are fine - no point in taking your own as the voltage change has always made mine less powerful...

I discovered the best after-sun this time in the Animal Kingdom Lodge and I think they have it in all the on-site hotel shops - the brand is H2O and it's an aloe vera-based gel. Honestly, I've tried loads but this was sooo soothing and brought down the redness on my hyper-sensitive skin more quickly than anything I've ever known! Also a little really does go a long way..

Make up-wise - I wear what I normally wear. A little YSL concealer and Mineral Veil face powder which is light plus normal mascara. I use an SPF 50 sunblock under my moisturiser so no need for sunscreen on my face...

I have thick hair and found that the hairdryer at Pop Century last year just wasn't good enough- it took a long, long time for my hair to be fully dry. This year I'm taking a travel hairdryer which has adaptable voltage.

As for make-up, last year I wore what I normally wear here. My foundation started to disappear towards the end of the day though, so this year I will take Hello Flawless by Benefit, which I've recently discovered. It's like a powder foundation and it has SPF 15, so it's suitable for the Florida weather! Also, I substituted my usual mascara for its waterproof counterpart last year, which was fine.

Haven't stayed onsite but found that the hotel hairdryers work a lot better due to lack of power from voltage change. However I must add that be warned the florida humidity tends to have it's way anyway unless your hair is tied back and mine's usually wavy or just as thick again at the end of the day despite straighteners.

Aftersun is a must and I don't wear make up except lipbarm in the day as I find the heat is just to much that it's constantly dripping, I wore mascara in past but last year found that with the heat/humidity being to much this was also coming off just as much as if I was washing my face. Sometimes ill apply a little blush, mascara and lipstick to wear at night I am however always in more of a rush to get out to the parks and have fun that I don't bother by make up.

I never wear pack up during the day - if you get hot it isn't going to look good! Once I have got a bit of a tan I wear very minimal make up in the evenings too. Usually just a bit of lippy and mascara.

Hair driers never tried as I tend to let my hair dry in the sun (its thick but never takes long) then style it after. My hair seems to really like the florida water as it always looks loads better over there but I don't really know why as I use the same shampoo as at home

Sorry not much help really :confused3

First time we went, the hairdryers were useless and I only have really thin hair. The next trip a lovely lady from the US boards here donated a hairdyer and left it for me at POP reception, it was so lovely of her! The difference was huge, a proper hairdryer had my hair dry in no time. To be honest if I didn't have that hairdryer to take back with me I would probably just buy a cheap one at walmart, although its mainly for my DD17 as I could live with tying my hair up.

As for make up, me and DD only wear mascara as the rest of it just runs off your face in the heat. I make the most of not wearing it and let my skin have a breather :)

I have very thick hair (every hairdresser i've ever had has commented on it, does get a bit old..! ;)) and found the hairdryers weren't that great but like Karen I found my own wasn't as powerful as usual anyway so it sort of evened out and I won't be bothering next time. I just 'mostly' dry it anyway, but then again I mostly tie it up or keep my natural wave rather than straightening if wearing it down.
Makeup-wise I wear what I do most days here: Bare minerals foundation and powder (which is quite light anyway and has SPF 15, though I do use facial suncream aswell) and my usual mascara, brow gel and lipbalm. It does melt off over the day but I refuse to go out barefaced! :upsidedow
