A question for SW Ding experts

I got a great Ding a while back for $29 each way. I booked it round trip, because I didn't think there was any reason why I would want to change that fare. Then we got a timeshare trade and it actually starts 2 days earlier. I called SW to clarify whether I could change just one leg of the reservation and she said that they couldn't do it there but I might be able to do it on the website. On the website it brings up the reservation and will only let me change part of it, but I'm afraid to click the next button to see what the new price will be because it's not telling me if the whole thing will go up or just the one half and I'm afraid once I click it there will be no going back. Anyone have any experience with this? Did I explain it well enough?

As best I can remember, there's almost always a "last chance" do you want to save your changes screen. I just quickly worked through a reservation I had (which was not a ding, and not a rt)
Anyway, you get the screen where you check the change box,
then you would put in your new date(s), then you'll get a screen with the available fares. If the dings are not available, you probably will not be able to get that fare (unless a ding comes out at a later date)....anyway, make the selection for your changes, and click on reconcile. I think the screeen after that has a box "I want to make these changes" If you're good to go, click there, if not click start over.
Good Luck!

You cannot change just one leg of a round-trip. That is why it is so highly recommended to make 2 one-way reservations. What you need to do now if you want to cancel is cancel the whole reservation and re-book it. However, if one or both of the legs of the trip went up, you may pay more than you did originally.

That's what I thought, but I figured it was worth a try anyway. I never book round trip for that reason, but I was lazy and didn't think I would ever want to change a $29 fare so I went ahead and did the round trip. It won't happen again.

how quickly do they release the reservation from the cc that you can make another one?

in my experience it's always been immediately that you can use the credit

Sometimes you can CHANGE one leg, but when you work through the process you may need to "reselect" both ways, even if you are choosing the same flight as your original. This can result in a higher fare.

In the case of the OP, I would go to travel tools, Change Air resrvation, put in the confirmation #, and see what happens. As I said, you can work through 2-3 of the next steps before you get that final "I want to change this reservation". As long as you don't click that, you haven't made the changes. Even if you don't do that final click to change, post back and let us know what happened.
