I know there are several HR professionals who post on disboards and they always have good advice. I have a question regarding sending in resumes. I am working part time but looking for a full time job. I have sent out my resume on line along with a cover letter to several different companies. My question is, should I or may I follow up on the resume to see if they are interested in interviewing me. Basically I would e-mail them and say that I sent in my resume for such and such a job and was just wondering if they were interviewing for the position yet. It has been years since I have been job hunting so any and all advice is welcome. Thanks.

I'm not in HR, but I would follow-up. It shows you're seriously interested in the job.

Are you responding to employment ads or just blindly sending your resume? If you are responding to a job posting, the poster would most likely have a process in place for reviewing the resumes and setting up interviews, etc...

Personally, I do not like being bugged about a resume, sometimes I will receive many resumes for a position and if every single one of them came with follow up email it could get overwhelming.

You might consider adding a read receipt to your initial correspondence if you want confirmation that it was received.

Make sure your cover letter is clear that you are seeking full time employment. By looking at your resume you do not want the HR dept. to assume you are still seeking part time and disregarding your resume entirely.

Good luck and happy hunting:goodvibes

I agree - I probably see 500-600 resumes each week, and there is just no way that I could follow up with each one individually.

My advice would be to network into the company you are interested in - find people you know who already work there, and have them contact the recruiter. I know my company has a HUGE program around employee-referrals. Doesn't necessarily get you a job, but all you need is the door opened if you are a great candidate!

Thanks for all the replies. I am sending my resume to specific job postings and many times I do get a return e-mail saying my resume has been retrieved. I am trying to network too where I can.
