I asked on here a while ago about whether someone would buy diamond earrings online.

I still haven't. I'm watching the same seller who has pretty good feedback 99%+ with 5000 sales, but I'm still nervous I'll get junk.

So anyway, the other day I recheck his feedback and he gets a positive feedback from someone who wrote, "initially dissatisfied with the product but XXX made it right. "

So, I sent the buyer a message on ebay...basically saying, I've been watching this buyer for a while and I'm a little nervous. Do you mind sharing what he did to make it right. Were the earrings crap? Did he replace them, or was he just easy to return?"

So far, I've not gotten a return message from him.

My question is, if you were on ebay, and got a message would you reply or delete it? I'm hoping to hear something back and make up my mind if I want to try this seller or spend twice as much at a local jeweler.

Thoughts please?

If I got that message, I would absolutely reply back.

FWIW, I've bought many things off ebay, including my wedding ring. My DH got me an eternity sapphire ring (both of our birthstones) for $80. Even a jeweler commented on how nice it was!

Thanks for that. It's what makes me so nervous, paying half what I'd pay in a store has me wondering exactly what I'd get.

Have you looked at a wholesale club like Sams? They have nice jewelery.

Even paying half the jewelry store price, it would be a ridiculous ripoff. Their margins are unbelievable.

My general rule of thumb about everything in life...trust your instincts. If it doesn't feel right, don't pull the trigger.

But to answer your question, yes, I would answer if I rec'd a message.

I've had messages like that and yes I have answered. Good luck!!

I would not buy it sight unseen.

If you insist, for such an expensive item as a diamond, the record of an eBay seller should be absolutely positively 100% immaculate and spotless and perfect before you do business.

Although it is rare to catch one in time, a last minute change in a seller's feedback for the worse IMHO is grounds to renege on a winning bid. EBay does not agree but if push comes to shove, you will win in a singular conflict of this kind.

OT: You should not buy a used car unless it performs absolutely positively 100% perfectly.
