At an easter egg hunt a few weeks ago, my DSLR which was around my neck came forward while picking my son up and whacked him right in the nose. So I recently purchased a Focus F-1 Anti-Slip strap. http://www.amazon.com/Focus-F-1-Ant...UTF8&qid=1428516822&sr=1-1&keywords=focus+f-1

It is similar to a Black Rapid strap which I just couldn't afford right now. What does everyone do when it rains? Is there something you can buy to place over your camera while on the strap still or do you just take it off, wrap it in a t-shirt, and put it in your backpack?

I carry a bag with all my lenses. If it starts to rain, I'll normally just put the camera in there.

I use an Op-Tech sling. Similar to the Black Rapid [however it attaches differently - at the strap rings rather than at the tripod mount]. Have had mine for about 2 years now with no issues. I like both the Op-Tech as well as my BR strap [used almost equally]. I feel the Op Tech is a little more cumbersome [since i trust NO strap on my expensive gear, I double secure both straps to the camera when using], but it is also much less expensive than BR.

Hope your son is OK, but many years ago I did something similar to my son...after I ensured he was OK, I couldn't stop laughing about it...well at least until my wife found out what happened!! LMAO

Cheers!

I take my camera off and put it away if it's a downpour ... or usually for a light rain just leave it on and put a poncho/rain jacket over it. All of my bodies and lenses are weather sealed and insured against water damage.
