First the question: Some of our family booked the concierge level at GCH for next week. They will be arriving for park opening on Monday morning, but not being able to check in rooms until that afternoon. Is the food room open to you only when your room is ready, or would you have access starting that morning when you drop off your luggage at the front desk?
I spent the day yesterday (the 2nd) park hopping, and it was great. Some good and bad:
1. We used the Disneyland App so much. Hyperspace Mountain was down the first 1.5 hours of the day, so we were watching it as we went on other things and as soon as it opened we sent a runner to FP it. We also sent a runner to DCA for RR fast pass as soon as we scanned into Disneyland.
2. Hyperspace Mountain Fastpasses were gone by 11:30 and RR by noon.
3. Lots and lots of people watched the 4:30 Christmas Parade. We happened to have a ressie at Carnation Cafe and saw the whole thing eating our meal and drinking our coffee.
4. All curbside/ parade viewing for the 8:45pm Paint the Night Parade was gone by 7. We just took the second row behind the curb. The parade CMs came by at 7:45 and explained that our entire party needed to be present by 8pm and at 8:15 they would ask everyone behind the curb to stand. This was not implemented consistently. Some CMs were enforcing this and others were not. TIP: make friends with your parade neighbors!! It's much more pleasant of a wait and you can help each other save your space.
5. The only standby's that went over 45 minutes were Hyperspace and RR. Lines were 5-30 minutes consistently all day long in both parks. We walked on Pirates, Haunted Mansion, and Jingle Cruise first thing in the morning. In the evening, our Fastpasses for Thunder Mountain were over an hour late and the CM let us on anyways. We walked on that with the FP at 7:45pm.
6. Meal at Carnation was tasty. My sister's sandwich melt wasn't hot when it came out and they brought her a much better one with fresh fries. They provided my mom and I free ice cream and candles for our birthdays, with a song by the staff.
7. Tomorrow land was the most crowded all day and night. Star Tours is good--not too much difference.
8. This isn't news--but the fireworks were amaaaaaaazing!!! It was all of our party's first time seeing it and we were overwhelmed. It's just fantastic. We were half way down Main Street in the center of the road. Castle was a little hard to see, but we wanted to see the building projections as well.
9. Trams to and from the parking lot were minimal waits--it reminded me of the days of old.
Anyways--hope that's helpful to some one!
