.....and yes your thread may start trouble because it is calling someone out about there siggy and the MODs are getting tired of it all. So there is your explination and hope it need not go any further than that. Have a good day.
If the board has the ability to QUOTE another person's post, why is it against the rules to start a new thread referring to another person's post to make a comment or ask a question. There was nothing nasty about the OP's comments in the thread that I pulled your quote from or another one that ended up locked very recently. The nastiness typically appears later in the threads as the subject gets off track (including as to the motive behind why the OP even posted) and then things get heated and sidetracked.

I am not being scarastic or mean or anything like that -- seriously. I really want everyone to understand that up front. It is simply that I really do not understand the rule that you have referred to (on several occassions) and as it appears that you know alot about what the MODs on this board think, I am asking. (Please note that I did pose a similar question to a MOD but I didn't get a response.)

I would sincerely appreciate if you (or any one who cares to read this thread) could point out the rule where it is not allowed to start a thread about something that someone else may have posted on this board that brought a new comment, thought or question to the OP's mind. I do understand that you are not to "call" someone else an "idiot" and why a thread might be eventually be locked but I really don't understand what is so wrong about starting a thread based upon something that you saw or read on this board itself.

Thank you.

I am not a Mod, but I dont think it has ever been against the rules to quote a post in one thread and start a new one.

As long as done in a respectful manor I have never seen a mod come down on threads like that. But I have seen that type of threads in an attempt to make fun of the post(person posting), and the mods have closed such threads.

I can understand that. But does there appear to be any attempt by the OP that questioned the "political signs" or people's siggy to be making fun of someone? Or even the one that was eventually locked where the person had stated their own point of view on another post that was attacking other people? That OP was very positive on their response to a very negative post in another thread. Many responders on the new thread accused the OP of being the offender.

I am just asking because I honestly don't understand it in that sense. Maybe it is just that posting on the Internet (as opposed to talking) makes it more difficult to know if a person is being scarastic or making fun of someone and while one person sees something as attacking, another person may not.

What would be the point of doing that other than bring that persons comments to the forefront. Is it to solicit comments that wouldn't otherwise happen because people aren't reading the thread the quote was pulled from?

Could be for that reason - as in looking for a broader perspective on something or possibly because some times threads move so quickly that a reply would be lost within the original thread.

To discuss the comments without having the original thread closed.

We all know that if Island_Lauri had responded to that post on the thread, she would have
A sparked a huge debate (which could have caused the thread to be locked)
B she would have been ignored (or someone would have posted a picture of a cat:rotfl: )
C the only people who would have taken part in the debate are those who frequent the thread

By using the post in a new thread,
A the original thread isn't threatened
B a larger group of DISers will see and/or comment on the post

When such vile things are posted in large threads, the chances of a MOD reading them are low. Those threads are so long and move so fast, the MODs can't keep up with everything that is posted.

I'm glad the new thread was started.:thumbsup2

I believe that GotDisney is mistaken on this one. Here are the board guidelines:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/guidelines.htm

I don't see any rule about copying a quote from one thread to another or about starting a new thread with a quote. I know that some people believe it is "bad form" to migrate quotes from thread to thread, but that is different than a rule.

I'm not sure, but the way I understand the rules, the only thing you aren't supposed to do is start a new thread (with the same topic) after the originally thread has been locked..

Starting a spin off on one that hasn't been locked - or starting an entirely new thread based on a topic that came up "within" another thread is fine as far as I know..:confused3

OP, maybe you should PM a MOD if you're uncertain about the rules :confused3

She may have, but I think this is more like a PSA for all of us. Hopefully one of the CB mods will address the issue here and we'll all know exactly what the rules are. I view this thread as a request for clarification and not a personal message to one poster.

It seems to me she was talking directly to "Got Disney". She used her quote to start the thread and then said "you" numerous times.:confused3

She did use the word "you" and some of the post was directed at GotDisney but I still think the gist of the thread is more general. I have also read GotDisney make the charge that quoting outside a thread is against the rules, so I too am interested in an answer.

If the moderators or webmasters close a thread there is a good reason. Once a thread has been locked (other than the "clique threads" when they reach 250 pages) restarting the thread is basically defying an administrative action and can get infraction points.

Thank you for the reminder about closed threads. Is quoting across non-closed threads against the rules? Starting a thread with a quote from a non-closed thread?
