We're thinking about purchasing Annual Passes with the DVC discount since we are going in August 08 and March 09. I'm the only DVC member, but my girlfriend and I are going together. The disney world website seems pretty strict about who you can buy AP with the DVC discount. We are not married, but do live together. Do you think I would run into any problems trying to apply the DVC discount to her AP purchase?

Also, to get the DVC discounted APs, do we have to purchase the passes in advance, or can we wait until our arrival at wdw? If we buy them before hand, the passes are not activated until we use them the first time, correct?

You can either prepurchase an exchange voucher or wait until you get to WDW. On-site you can to to any guest services or theme park ticket window to purchase. You will need your member card and photo ids for all adults. You should be able to purchase one for your girlfriend if her id has the same address as yours. Nothing says she has to take your name if you are married, just don't mention she's your girlfriend.

I bought APs for myself and boyfriend (we live together too) and there was no problem. We bought them at the guest relation window at Epcot and it was quick and easy. Have a great trip!

You just have to have the same address and have something to prove it (drivers license). All family members that have the same address can get the discount.

Before DH and I got married we already had the same address in our licenses. All they asked when we were purchasing our AP was proof of addresses.

My husband and I have been married fifteen years with different last names and the same address. No one (other than the adoption agency) has ever asked us to prove it. Certainly DisneyWorld doesn't.

I think the standard is if you think she is your “life partner” and if needed describe her that way.

Out of Curiosity, do you get a hard plastic pass, or the same paper ticket as buying a theme park pass? Those paper tickets are pretty easy to damage.

It's a paper ticket. They give you a little folder to keep it in. The folder also lists the discounts available to AP holders. I always keep mine in its folder and never had a problem with it getting damaged.

I will say that the little ticket that they use for the AP is pretty tough stuff. But that folder that they give you to put it in ...well lets just say that mine fell apart (disintegrated into little pieces is a better description) after getting wet too many times on Splash Mtn. :rotfl:

Oh, I'm so glad we're not the only ones!

Unfortunately, it's paper but I have sent repeated notes mentioning that they could save a few pennies by giving us real cards (like the temporary room keys) and allowing for automatic renewal without the need to create a new card annually but to no avail.

That reminds me that it's almost time for my annual suggestion note.:cool2:

Like everyone has said, you get the paper ticket. But if they get a little worn, just go to guest relations and they'll print you a new one. You don't even need a receipt. We have had to do that b/c sometimes the tickets don't want to work in the fast pass machines.

Good info to know.. So i can purchase 2 tickets now and get vouchers them, and then 2 more before we go and be good? wow did not know that! is there an expiration date once you get the voucher??

My paper AP did wear out. I tried to get into the park on day 6 of our last trip, and it had stopped working. The CM ran over for me to Guest Relations, and returned within 2 minutes with a new AP. Hopefully, this one is a bit sturdier...
