A QUESTion about making quests

I need some help from some experienced quest makers.

I'm making a quest and I want to give as many people as possible a chance to play it. Assuming that each winner will get one prize how many winners can I put into the quest.

I started out by just adding winners to see if I hit the limit but I got to 401 and it's still letting me add more. If I step out of the quest making screen then come back in, the prize screen takes a long time to load (and there aren't even any prizes in it yet). I'm afraid that even though I can add 400+ winners there is a limit where some players on slower connections may not be able to load the quest because I put too many prizes in it.

So I guess my question has two parts:
What is the actual limit on the number of winners you can put into a quest?
Is there an established "good practice" limit that you know works well?
(maybe it's the number of winners the hosts put in their quests)

Thanks for the help!

OH NO STOP FOR NOW!

I am not an experienced quest maker, but i thought i read a max of much lower. like 140 I want to say.

Dont add anymore, and lets see what the others say

umm, well I usually put 100, but if you really expect 400 people to play your quest then, be my guest ;)

I don't know how many people to expect but I don't want to have to turn anyone away if I don't have too. I'm going to prepare for the max.

Thanks for the help Aengus, we can always count on you. Hopefully someone has a definitive answer but if not I'll probably stick close to your number.

I remember reading about people using it to shove pins in and there was a limit! I hope its higher than i remember, just dont want to see you lose any of those valuable ned pins ROFL!

You will get your answer if we keep bumping this, many of the people i expect know the answer are day time posters.

I wonder if it matters if you're trying to pack the max number of items in on each line (like you would if you were using the kiosk for storage). I just need one prize per winner. So is the limit winners or prizes?

Bump? I'm sure I have no idea what you are talking about. :rolleyes1

hmm you lost me there. My guess, still very possibly wrong was 140 winners. so if you mean you have more prizes in there than 140 winners you would be ok ahead of my guess.

Hey... a pink elephant over there... bump

Well, I lost a lot of inventory by storing on more than 120+ lines. Anything past around prize 120 meant bye bye forever. All prizes put into those lines past around 120 or so goes into a Black Hole.

So I never make a quest that high.

At any rate, I usually don't get more than 30 players playing my quests when I've opened it.

I've never had more than 100 prize places in my quests. I've emptied it only once, but the lag tends to be horrible for those trying to play the quest when there are a lot of prizes. You'll probably want a few breaks from sitting in your room, too, so that would be a good time to reload the kiosk, imo. Sorry it's not the answer you're looking for, but I did want you to know about the lag.

Well I'm glad I asked.

The way my prizes are set up I can't really reload the quest. I think that one of the prizes might be attractive enough to get more than 100 in on the quest. I guess I'll set up 100 winners and make it a "best time" quest. That way if more than 100 can play but only the top 100 get awarded. Maybe it won't be that popular and then everyone can take home a prize. ;)

Most people have 5, 10 maybe 25 prizes so 100 would be alot and I would think make it a quest alot of people would like to play. My last quest I had 125 prizes but they were just prizes from the pirates of the carribean which I can't sell and wanted to get rid of. I made it so you won as long as you finished, and then I just restocked it. I know I enjoy winning as long as I finish it. When you set it to fastest time you wouldn't know how many people played until quest is over and see if any prizes are left. Just remember to try and give it a good name and maybe in description write lots of prizes people will line up.

The hardest part to any quest is getting your room on the list of popular rooms. Keep the questers in your room as long as possible, but still able to do the tasks with a full room. Maybe multiple choice questions or dancing, etc. You can time the quest to end in an hour, I usually set it for two hours. Chances are you will give out most if not all of those 100 prizes in that amount of time. Another tip is if you're going to have one or more 'good' prizes, don't have them in the top 5 spots. This way you avoid the same person using mules to win that good prize.
Have fun with it!
