I have been visiting Epcot since it first opened. The first incarnation of Imagination was so great! The lobby area for the ride was probably roughly the size of the current gift shop, and the line would wind around through all that space, and then wind around outdoors as well. I can remember waiting more than an hour many times, because it was my favorite ride at Epcot (until Horizons) and I wanted to ride it several times a day. Now I may ride it once a year, more for nostalgia's sake than because I like the current ride. Figment had a more childlike wonder about him, instead of an almost obnoxious attitude. Dreamfinder kind of felt like almost a Santa Claus type character - warm and inviting, and full of magic. The ride really did make you think about everyday items in a more creative way. There are some full ride through videos online that give you a glimpse into the original, but nothing could really come close to the actual experience with the sights, scents and sounds.
If I had a time machine, I would take it back to late 80's Epcot as often as I could.
