A question about cassette tapes... yes I still own tapes!

I only use them in my car though because I only got a tape player and no CD. Somthing is wrong with the tape player though, every time I try to play a tape it plays fast speed and sounds like the chipmuncks. What is the problem? Does it need to be cleaned? Do they even still sell tape player cleaners? Thanks.

Radio Shack might have a cleaner kit. The other thing you could try is getting some long swabs and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and cleaning the heads and the capstan. If you don't know what that means, just dip the swab in the alcohol and swirl it around inside the cassette deck. Do all of your tapes do the chipmunk? Would you consider upgrading to CD?
