Hi all. Well, it would seem that my slightly sarcastic style has offended some on these boards. And my 'yelling' at you all in one particular thread seems to have offended some as well.
So, I apologize to you all for any offense that may have been taken. That was not my intent. Those posters that post and read here regularly pretty much realize my 'style' and have no issues with it. But, others who don't come here often were upset by some posts. When I 'yelled' at you all, it was in order to prevent the debacle that had already taken place over on the Theme Parks board. It was the same type situation as when your mother yells at you to stop doing somethiing, even though you aren't doing it, in order to get the other kids to stop doing whatever the offending behaviour was. So, again, I'm sorry if any of you were bothered by that action.
The vast majority of you realize what I mean...I truly believe it's the newer poster that has an issue with my 'style'. But, just in case there are any others out there who were offended, I apologize.
I will try to keep my sarcastic bent in check. I will try, can't make any promises. But, I may end up banning myself!!!

I don't recall seeing even a single post of yours which requires an apology. Some people are overly sensitive. A person who was offended by your post probably needs to find another Disney board. No reason for you to change your posting style just to cater to a small number of people who "don't get it"

If you change your style, I'd think something was horribly wrong -- like someone hi-jacked your user name and is giving suspect advice. I'm not sure what thread you're talking about, but I've always appreciated your quick wit and helpful advice.

I thought that there was no pixie dust on the Transportation Board!

Goofy4tink, I like your style and I saw that thread. I agree, some newer posters had issues with it.

I think you need a timeout! So you have to go to WDW and take a timeout!

I think what you and other moderators do here on the disboards is great. I've enjoyed being a member here for over 10 years now!

What a great idea!!! I'm putting myself in 'time-out'....I will just have to go to WDW and accept my punishment. BUT...I will be checking in on you all whilst in time-out!!!!

That's what I was thinking!! :thumbsup2

But...if it makes you feel better goofy4tink....give yourself a warning! ;)

?????? Isn't the motto of the Transportation Board "There is no pixie dust on the Transportation Board" Blunt and Honest is the best approach. There are some people who don't want honesty and are beyond angry when what they were told is the truth. I think you do a great job, not only with moderating but with finding out information for the posters. Don't change.

I read the post she is talking about and agree there is no need for an apology. I agree 100% with the warning she gave. If she hadn't, there was a very, very good chance that thread would have went downhill quickly. Anyone who was offended was out of line. There is absolutely no reason for her to change her posting style. That's ridiculous. I think all the Moderators do a great job.

OT but, I love the Transportation board and don't understand why some people get so bent out of shape when they don't get the answers they want.:confused3 The Transportation board is full of facts, but some people don't want the facts. They just want someone to agree with what they want to do, even if it's wrong.:confused3

I read this post, and while I wasn't offended by it, I DID think it was a case of a moderator using an unnecessarily heavy hand. An argument had NOT yet broke out, and there was only minimal debate on the thread. Trying to prevent arguments that have not yet happen isn't really the role of the moderator as I understand it.

It felt like you were starting the process of trying to control the culture of the board, and I guess I just don't think that is your job. Your job to to monitor threads and close ones that do get out of hand.

I have NO problem with a moderator stepping in as a thread gets heated and lets the posters know that it IS getting somewhat heated, and is in danger of getting shut down, but I just felt that this instant was egregious.

I appreciate the apology, because I know how hard it can be to apologize. I think there was more to folks being upset than your "tone" and it wasn't only "new posters" that took issue with what went on. I read this board EVERY day. You might think I am a newer poster because you don't see me post often, but I have been coming here for six years!

The offended should just be glad that I'm not moderating then. (Not that there's any chance of that happening.)

This! :thumbsup2

Since I was the one who got "yelled" at I will say that I agree with the PP 100%. No I don't read every post on the Transportation board nor do I commit the moderator's responses to memory. Trying to understand someone's "tone" or intent is pretty difficult just by reading. For me it was more of a "what did I do?" moment. I posted (as did a couple others prior to the yelling) a staightforward reply that was in no way "impolite" and was told to "knock it off". I now understand the intent of the response but at the time it came off pretty heavy handed from the point of view of someone evidently not in the transportation board clique.

Water under bridge at this point and for a second time, apology accepted.

I totally agree with you, Lewisc. Well said!!!

On any internet board there are "hot" topics. There are a variety of ways of handling it.

Some boards/moderators do nothing. Sit back and be entertained. The travel safety board on flytertalk is that way.

Some boards edit the off topic posts, warn the poster and ban the poster if they don't follow the rules exactly. A popular priceline discussion forum follows that policy.

DIS follows a middle ground. Some hot topics (refillable mugs) have a dedicated thread. Any threads elsewhere on that topic get closed.

Otherwise a moderator has to decide when to warn posters and when to just close the thread. Based on past experience goofy4tink (or another moderator) might say something before the thread goes in the direction of previous threads on the same subject.

I don't think I've read the thread in question but I don't recall Goofy4tink ever posting something she needed to apologize for.

edited to add: I've had my posts edited on other boards. The information I posted, with links, made a regular poster look bad. Rather then ruin the "godlike reputation" some of my posts were deleted and others were edited.

Funny reading all the posts thanking her when all evidence to the contrary vanishes.

I have to say I wasn't offended by the posts, but I did think the reaction was a bit over the top. I don't read whatever other board was exploding over a similar topic, so the response seemed very heavy handed and out of character.

It's hard to read anything in all caps and with so much punctuation as anything but yelling and screaming, and the posts in the thread to that point hadn't gotten to the point of needing such and extreme response.

I agree that delicate subjects can easily get people fired up, but this situation didn't need much more than a "hey folks, let's keep it nice" or something along that line.

KNOCK IT OFF!!!!!!! Yes, I'm yelling. Man...take it over to the Theme Parks board...enough of this crap going on over there.

EXCUSE ME?????? You truly didn't just say that, did you????

This is the only DIS board I frequent. If you spend enough time here, you quickly find out what topics are "HOT" and you should be very careful to not get insulting.

Our moderator was simply being proactive in this case. Some took it the wrong way and have been apologized to. I, for one, knew exactly what she was doing and she does a wonderful job here. I wouldn't want it any other way...

Duds

While I read the transportation board I don't post on it much. I did read the thread that goofy4tink mentions and understood why she said what she said.

The tone didn't bother me at all. Then again I am a fellow MA resident. It is probably something in the water here since my entire family is very sarcastic.

I would not like to be a mod. They get chastized for overmoderating and then for undermoderating. No one is ever happy.

Moderators have a tough job and I think goofy4tink does a wonderful job. I'm sorry she had to apologize!

Some posters are always confrontational and I for one was grateful that she stepped in right away.

The thing I love about the transportation board is that almost every thread has some element of "helping". We post an opinion, ask a question, discuss a problem and I always learn something. Except for the flying threads, of course, they just make me happy I drive :lmao:

I guess we know whose delicate sensibilities were offended... ;)

And, for the record, I DO believe a moderator's job is to fire a warning volley over the bow before posters escalate to points-earning commentary.

Good job, G4T. Enjoy your vacation! :hippie:
