~ A PTR for a CAMPING Trip That Might Never Be ~ *TR Started (link inside)*

Melissa - I honestly do not know what is going on. This is just crazy. Chuck said he was going to ask for an extension so that we'd have longer to try for orders and I said why?? Just tell the detailer to assign us so we can move on with our lives! I also don't want to be moving while the boys are in school. Right now it works out well with moving in June. So, we'll see what happens.

I did have some good news this weekend! About a year ago Chuck was in a very small car accident. Some guy side swiped him. The police were never called, but the damage to Chuck's car was estimated at $3,000 (it's mainly his driver side door). The guy who hit him (and who admitted it was his fault) ended up having Maryland State Insurance or something like that. It's for people who have a difficult time getting insured (probably because they've been in too many accidents :sad2: ). Anyway, it has taken a YEAR, but they finally sent us a check to cover the cost of the repairs. The insurance company kept trying to get in touch with the guy to get his side of the story, but a year later still weren't able to. He wouldn't return their calls. We were about ready to go through our own insurance company and just pay the deductible, but I'm glad we waited.

What a great surprise visitor. I think I remember reading about him in Blues report. Not so much Buzz's, but hey all the squirrel and stretchy shorts talk my mind goes blank.

A-hem! You could read about him in my report, Scott! ;)

Kathy

Glad you got the check. :thumbsup2 As someone that was previously an insurance agent, that is unacceptable. Of course, I didn't have to work with state funded policies.

Can I just say this whole "not telling you where you are moving, if at all" thing is just RIDICULOUS!!! How long can you really put a family on hold?? Anyway..you really are being a good sport about it. I guess there's not much you can do but wait...UGH!! :rolleyes1

Congrats on the insurance check. It's always nice when something works out right!! :cool1:

I have peeked at yours here and there and plan to read the entire thing when I have more time. :thumbsup2

That is good news; and I hope you get orders soon.
It would be nice not to have to worry about it while on vacation!

Kathy

That's for sure! But, even if we don't know by then, I will put it out of my head for our vacation. :goodvibes

We didn't know what to do. We have USAA for our insurance and we love them. They said we could go through them and pay the deductible and they'd try to go after the other insurance company. But, I'm not sure we ever would have gotten our deductible back? I was truly shocked when Chuck told me he heard back from the other company and they had decided to just send us the check even though they never heard from the guy.

I figure there's no sense getting stressed about it. I have spent the last couple of weeks decluttering the house, reorganizing and cleaning. I figure if we don't end up moving, at least the house will look nicer and if we do move - I'll be a step ahead. :thumbsup2

Chuck just called me and he was able to speak to the detailer and we finally have an answer!! :cool1:

Chuck will be stationed aboard a ship out of Norfolk, Virginia. But, first he has to do four months of school down in Pensecola, Florida. That means I'll be moving the boys by myself once school lets out.

Just wanted to share my news with you all. :goodvibes

Hurray! I am so glad that you finally have orders!

I think you will really like the Hampton Roads area, so much to do and the beaches are great! Busch Gardens is not even an hour away and you can usually get nicely discounted tickets through the base. Are you guys going to live on base?

Yay!!! :cool1: I'm glad you finally have orders!!

I hope the move goes smoothly. You are going to have your hands full.

I'm glad you finally know where you'll be:thumbsup2 So much for anywhere exotic, but I'm sure Norfolk will be great! I'm sorry about having to move the boys on your own. I suppose it will make you tougher, but don't think it will be tons of fun. You may have to take a trip down to Disney just to recover:rotfl:

We're going to try! We will probably plan a trip down before Chuck has to report to school and check out the area, etc. Chuck has spent quite a bit of time around the bases and he said Little Creek Amphibious Base was a pretty nice area. Did you guys live on base? Which one?

I know we'll be happy with living there. When I lived in Chesapeake it was in a highish crime area and we were very poor and worked crazy hours. I think I may have a different opinion of the area once the boys and I get a chance to explore. And taking them to Colonial Williamsburg will be a short drive. :thumbsup2

Nope, we didn't live on base. We lived in a neighbourhood off of Great Neck Rd on N. Plantation Dr. Pretty much the Great Neck area is a good area with nice neighbourhoods and good schools. I think living at Little Neck the boys might be within the zone for some of those schools.

I can tell you that Trantwood Elementary is a good school and Cox is a great high school although I doubt if your boys would be old enough to go there during the time you are stationed.

Great Neck Middle School and Lynnhaven Middle School are also good.

Back in 2000/2001 they built a nice new commissary by the Dam Neck base.

I know Fort Story has some military housing as well it is in the Great Neck area and is right on the beach and within a State Park that has some nice hiking and nature walks.

Also there is always lots of rental housing if you guys decided to live off-base since it is such a large military community.

:rotfl: Well, we may take a trip down to Pensecola to visit Chuck this summer. His brother lives down in that area too.

Thanks for all of that info Lessa! I think I've been near Fort Story and I'm pretty sure I know which state park you're talking about. :thumbsup2

Hey no problem! As you know I loved living in Va Beach so if you have any questions about the area feel free to ask and I can try and answer them. :goodvibes

If it is still around you should try out Y-Not Pizza in the Great Neck Plaza next to Farm Fresh. Super yummy pizza and desserts for delivery or dine-in. It was my first job, well I worked in the bakery but same thing. Nice family run restaurant.

Oh Carissa, I'm so happy that you finally have orders!! That is great news! :dance3:

Thank goodness the military does the packing for you...that is certainly a load off!

Thank goodness you know where you are going to be, that would have driven me insane.

Yay for orders and a location at last!!!

And, since it's been a while - have fun with your visitor! I can't wait to hear what mischief he gets up to!
