A Princess' First Trip - My October 2013 PTR - Updated 04-15-13(Schedule and ADR's)

Hello! Your DD is so cute and adorable.

I noticed your thread and was excited to see someone else starting to plan for October 2013. Fantastic that it will be your DD's first trip!

I'm planning on heading to WDW in early October for a DisMeet. Sadly, I think we'll be there earlier than your planned dates.

Looking forward to reading about your planning.

:welcome: PrincessInOz

I'm interested on seeing if it is a little cooler a little later in October. We went to Disney over our honeymoon and we were there at the end of September into October. The weather wasn't too bad, but it got really hot and muggy near the end of the trip.

My DH doesn't tolerate the heat too well - he sweats a lot. So I'm hoping it will be a little cooler. :goodvibes

It'll be interesting to compare after our trips next year if there is a difference in temperatures over the course of a couple of weeks. :thumbsup2

It will! I'm guessing it will still be hot - it wasn't too bad except for the day we went to AK. That park is hotter than the others though because all the trees keep the hot air in and not much of a breeze gets through.

New here and this is officially the first PTR that I have read and already I am hooked. Your daughter is just adorable and how lucky for her to have a birthday near Holloween. I have seen the families having there birthdays at the pumkin farm and always thought that having a holloween birthday would be "awsome".:lmao:

She said her 3 1/2 year old's birthday is exactly two weeks before Halloween. Well, my 3 1/2 year old's DGD birthday is exactly two weeks after hers. pixiedust:

Halloween was never one of my favorite holidays. It's just a precursor to my least favorite season, winter. So having a Halloween birthday in the family makes that holiday...actually fun for me.

Looking forward to 10/13.

I hate winter too, but fall has always been my favorite season. I love Halloween - costumes and candy are two of my favorite things.

DH didn't care when our wedding was, so I got my fall wedding. It was just the luck of the draw that I had an October baby.

I'm excited she wants a Halloween costume party this year. It's going to be a lot of fun!

As much as I dislike Winter, (Chicago winters can be brutal.) fall is by far my favorite season. I love the colors and the smells (yes fall seems to have it's own smell. Well at least to me.). Holloween is my favorite holiday (Christmas is a close second.). I love to dress up and all of the ghost stories.

How exciting that she wants to have a costume party this year. You are going to post some pictures right?

I will definitely post pictures!

I'm from Michigan, so I lived through many brutal winters. We moved down to NC 7 years ago and it's much nicer. We still have all four seasons - but winter is a lot shorter. And I live in the mountains - so the fall colors are amazing!

Next in our cast of characters - DH!

DH1.jpg

DH is currently a machinist, who is going to school to become an engineer. He loves video games, anime, wrestling and currently refound his love of Magic (the card game).

He's a great hubby - he tolerates my Disney obession and we have a lot in common. He's been able to do several events that are important to him - like we went to WrestleMania last year. It was awesome but it was much more his thing than mine.

He is also a great dad - DD adores him and misses him a lot when he has to work long hours. But he makes sure to spend some time one on one with her every day.

DH2.jpg

Currently, he is looking forward to attending Dragon*Con - a big sci-fi / fantasy convention in Atlanta. He loves meeting the celebrities and getting autographs. He is also being dragged to the panel I'm on so he can video tape it for me. But more on that later. :goodvibes

Once Dragon*Con is done, we are hoping to be able to actually book our Disney trip!

Dragon Con? I'm jealous! But enjoy and take lots of pictures! :goodvibes

We just had a smallish Comic Con in Melbourne and if you meet Patrick Stewart and/or Stan Lee, ask them how they thought it went. They were both here for the event.

That's a sweet picture of your DH and DD together.

We live 3 hours away from Atlanta so we go to Dragon*Con every year. I have relatives who live in a suburb of Atlanta so we stay there and they watch DD while DH and I geek out.

Though this year, DD wants to be in the parade with me. We are going to both be Snow White!

And last in our cast of characters - Me!

I'm 35 years old and I'm a writer. I do temp. work but I'm also a core contributor for Wired's GeekMom blog. I've been with GeekMom for about a year and a half and it's awesome.

We made the move to Wired a few months ago and it was a huge deal. It's a really great job and I have the best co-workers. And I get lots of opportunities that I wouldn't get otherwise - like I'm going to be on a panel at Dragon*Con this year. I'm really excited for that.

I am a big geek and I love going to conventions like Dragon*Con. Though next year we are planning on skipping Dragon*Con because of our Disney trip. Though I may try to go down for a couple days if I can get a media pass.

I adore being a mom, and am so excited to introduce my daughter to Disney!

So, guess what?
My sister and I are planning a trip to Disney World in October 2013!
I haven't even made my December trip yet, and another trip is in the works!
This will be for my nephews 13th birthday and it will be the first trip for the "new baby"
My sister is expecting and is due in Jan 2013 so the new baby will not even be a year old yet and we're already getting it into Disney!

Our tentative dates are Oct 12-20 - maybe we can meet up at some point?

I'd love to meet some DIS folks when we are at Disney!

I wish I knew when we were going back after this trip - probably not until 2015 or 2016  DH is hoping that he and I can go to WrestleMania 30 in New York in 2014.

Since I'm all about re-living my previous Disney trip, I'm going to post and finish my trip report from my 2007 honeymoon here.

I started it but DH ended up in the hospital three weeks after our honeymoon thanks to a heart attack scare. He, thankfully, didn't have a heart attack but it was very scary and I never finished the trip report.

So, here is the first day from my honeymoon. pixiedust:

Backstory: We got married September 30th, 2006. We live in NC but all our family is in Michigan, so we opted to get married up there. Because of the time we had to take off for our wedding we had no time to take off for a honeymoon.

In July 2006, my DH (then DF) asked me if I would rather go to Vegas (where we had planned on going) or Disney World. It took me less than a second to decide. Disney World of course!!

So, I've been planning this trip (DH really didn't put in any input) since right after the wedding. So I was super excited when it was time to go!

Friday, September 28th - Arrival Day!

We got up very early on Friday morning, ran a couple of errands (DH had to go to the bank and we got breakfast at McDonald's), and were on our way.

The journey itself was rather uneventful - it's very easy to get to Disney from NC. It's nearly a straight shot.

Unfortunely we hit Orlando just at rush hour, so it took us longer than it should have to get to our resort. I amused myself by taking pictures of the disney billboards.

Finally we made it through the traffic and we entered Walt Disney World property!

wdw2.jpg

We managed to find our resort, CBR, and found the place to check in. The line to check in was kinda long but moved quickly.

When we got up to the counter, I was very excited, so I told the lady who waited on us that we were on our honeymoon. She gave us pins that said 'Just Married' (which isn't exactly true, but we guessed that it was close enough *L*). I was a little surprised when DH put his on right away. I, of course, did too :D

We got our 'Keys to the World' and our room number, so we headed to the room.

wdw3.jpg

Our section of the resort was Jamaica - which I was pretty geeked about because I had read that it was one of the best 'islands' to be in. We found our room with ease, and we unpacked and vegged out for a bit.

Here's some room and resort pictures!

After we got unpacked we headed to the building that had the food court, gift shop, and the sit down restaurant, Shutters. It was called 'Old Port Royale'. I didn't make reservations for this night because I wasn't sure how we'd feel after that 9 hour drive. We asked if we could get into Shutters without a reservation, and they said we could, but it would be a 45 minute wait. We decided to wait and it gave us time to browse the gift shop.

Once we got seated, our server noticed our pins and said congratulations - we got a ton of people saying this throughout the week. Mostly cast members, but some regular guests too.

We got sparkling wine for free, because we were on our honeymoon, which was neat (though it made me a little tipsy). We were on the dining plan so we got an appetizer, an entrée, a dessert and a drink. That is a lot of food!

Our dinner was very good - we both had prime rib, and we were so stuffed we had to take our cheesecake back to the room (we did have a mini fridge so it didn't go bad).

We went back to the room, vegged out, and went to sleep fairly early.

Next time - Magic Kingdom and Ohana!

Here's the next post on my DisneyMoon rewind :cool1:

Saturday - September 29

Because I have been active here on the Disboards, I knew a couple months ago that DH's favorite ride, BTMRR, was going down for rehab on Oct. 1st. Our plans had us going to the MK for the first time on Oct. 4th near the end of our vacation.

When I went to Disney last time, we had gotten 4 day tickets, but didn't use the last day. My mom said that I could have two of the tickets, and my sister could have the other two.

We decided to try and use these tickets because a half day at the park was much more affordable at 1993 prices. We drove, partly so we could ride the monorail, and partly so we could trade the tickets in for current ones.

wdw.jpg

We were able to trade in the old tickets with no problem. I again mentioned we were on our honeymoon, and we got another set of pins. DH put his on, so he had two pins on.. I ended up putting my extra pin on my bag.

I got my first glimpse of the castle as we rode the monorail to the park. It made me a bit teary-eyed. Soon we were at the MK, and walking down Main Street, which was all decked out for Halloween/Autumn!

wdw17.jpg

We started over in Adventureland, and our first ride was the Jungle Cruise. We kept going around and went on Pirates (no wait!) and ended up over at BTMRR, which is why we were there that day. There was less than a 10 minute wait so we rode it twice! I can understand why it's DH's favorite because it was a lot of fun!

Here's a couple of pictures - DH while waiting in line, and then a picture of me :D

wdw15.jpg

wdw16.jpg

We kept going around the park, mostly riding things that had low waits. We didn't feel the need to ride everything because we'd be back later in the week.

Finally we got to my favorite ride - The Haunted Mansion. It had just been rehabbed, and it was awesome!! Still my most favorite Disney ride!!

After the Haunted Mansion we stopped for some lunch, then rode a few more things before deciding to head back to the room. We had dinner reservations at Ohana which is location in the Polynesian Resort.

My travel agent had told me, after I had told her that I wanted to eat at Ohana that you can see Wishes from the restaurant, and they pipe in the music so you get the whole experience. So, we had a bit of a later reservation.

When we got there, there was a rather long line to check in. Once we checked in, and got the buzzer thing that would let us know our table was ready we went downstairs and checked out the Poly's gift shop. It didn't take too long, and we were seated at a table near the big picture window. We could see the castle and we knew we had a perfect spot for Wishes.

Ohana has no menu - it's family style with lots of meat. The main course is brought out on skewers. Everything was very yummy! Though we were getting the main course as Wishes was going on, and our servers freaked me out because I didn't notice him come up behind me. I jumped when I did notice him :rotfl:

It was extremely romantic and the perfect end of our first full day. Ohana is now one of our favorites!

Next: Epcot, Anniversary and the Day of a Million Dreams!

Joining in. Can't wait to read more about your upcoming trip. Your daughter is adorable. Enjoying reading about your honeymoon as well.

:welcome: Dream426!

It's fun reliving my Disney Honeymoon - and now I can finally finish it. :cool1:

I made breakfast for dinner tonight and I made a first attempt at Mickey pancakes. I think they turned out pretty good! I think once DD's birthday is over with we are going to start having some dinner and a movie nights so she some of the movies she hasn't yet.
