A precious gem of a weekend!7/23 Finished! link to new TR

Joining in!!! :cool1: Great report so far!!!

Your DH sounds like mine! Actually there is a very good chance they're long lost brothers!! :lmao: My DH is notorious for disappearing right before a party or something important, even if it's something he wanted! He's also notorious for being grumpy when he doesn't get his way ;)

Can't wait for more!!!

Great update! Can't wait to see how DH takes the news on the upgrade! Target Wars had me cracking up! I like Target, but usually wind up wandering around electronics while DW does whatever it is she does in there.

Great trip report so far, but I wanna hear what you thought of the resort and where your room was.......
PLUS....where is the target in Buffalo, is it near the airport? Is it in the mall?

give us more, give us more.!!
oh and merry christmas!:santa:

In my last update I left off when we were at Magic Express. Specifically when we were about to walk on the famous red carpet and announce to the CM with the large waving hand which resort we were headed for. Dh thought it was POP. He wasn’t wrong in thinking that.

In fact for a while we were heading to POP. Until I got it into my head that an upgrade to a different resort would be a nice belated B-day present for him. I had originally inquired about an upgrade to the Poly but after I manually lifted my chin off the floor decided that perhaps a moderate was better. So Coronado Springs it was.

I took pictures of DH when I broke the news to him. Here he is.

0c2c198e.jpg

What do you mean we aren’t going to POP?

He knew something was up. He had seen the extra charge on my credit card. He had already been grumpy about it at home. He suspected another backstage tour or something of that nature. Not a resort upgrade.

Here he is at our red carpet waiting spot. He seems to have recovered nicely.

0492ebb8.jpg

“So tell me about Coronado Springs. Is that where we stayed on our honeymoon?” He asked.

No. That was Saratoga Springs. Only remember it was called the Disney Institute and believe it or not I haven’t done much research on this place.

Okay that I do NOT believe.

I do know it’s kind of like POR in that there are four bus stops and a big themed pool with a couple smaller quieter pools. Oh yeah, the food court works differently.

How so?

Well, as far as I understand you order the food, eat it and then pay for it. Plus they automatically charge you a 15% tip.

His eyebrows went stormy.:headache:

If it’s one thing DH doesn’t like it is mandatory tips.

We’ll just have to figure it out when we get there cause I’ve got us eating at their food court tonight.

We were the only ones in the lineup for CSR. Actually there weren’t many other people waiting on the carpets at all. I suppose they were all in the buses.

We didn’t wait long until a mears bus pulled up. I cringed. We had mears both ways last trip and I really wanted to experience a Disney bus complete with the cheesy movie.

A CM came our way and told us to follow her. I was thrilled when she passed the Mears bus and lead us on to an actual magic express themed bus. Not even a Disney cruise one but magic express one.

YAY!

17012974.jpg

It was 4:30 but we didn’t leave until around 5pm. The bus was packed by then.

My initial excitement died down and instead of getting revived up by the movie I had to admit it but I fell asleep. I totally missed taking a picture of the front gates to the property.:sad2:

We had two stops before heading to CSR. We stopped at POP first. Tons of families got out.

So this is where we were supposed to stay?” Dh asked

Yeah,

It looks pretty fun.” He was motioning to the kids playing with hula-hoops while waiting for the buses.

Yeah

Just maybe not the type of fun we’re looking for this weekend.” He says with a twinkle in his eye and a tentacle escaping momentarily.

CBR is next. I would like to stay here one day. It was on my list but my TA mentioned that CSR would be priced higher than the other moderates soon. So I thought I’d better strike while it was still the same price. However, I am sorry now that I choose CSR for this trip. If you permit me a digression for a moment I will tell you why.

When I booked this trip I knew that my kid’s dance studio was thinking of going to a competition at Disney next July. They hadn’t committed yet. At least not at the time of booking. When the Dance studio did a competition at Disney two years ago (we belonged to another studio at the time) the competition was offsite. It was at one of the hotels on Disney property but not owned by Disney. I can’t remember which one. But because of this, I assumed the competition would be off site again. I was wrong.

About a week before we left for this trip, I found out the competition was going to be onsite. In fact it was going to be none other than CSR. The Studio was still just thinking of going to the competition. Now that it’s two months later I can tell you that we are going and even that after 6 weeks of convincing DH we are going with the studio. Well, not all of us. DH and my youngest son (he doesn’t dance, he plays hockey and baseball) are staying home and my Mother will be accompanying me, DS11 and DS9 next July. So you see, I should have booked CBR because I will be staying at CSR next July. But as they say hindsight is 20/20 and what was done was done.

Oh, all during this trip DH has no knowledge that the Dance studio is even considering going to Disney next summer. Anyone besides me notice I tend to keep things from DH?:rolleyes1

Okay back to the current TR. We are pulling up to CSR. Naturally it starts to rain and it is around 6:00. It’s getting dark. Here is a picture I took from inside the bus. Horrible I know.

94a3ca54.jpg

I did a little better once I was out of the bus.

605b4309.jpg

The lights look lovely in the twilight but the rain and the cold… yes, I said
COLD.
Notice the capital letters in the word. It was defiantly chilly. I started to worry that I hadn’t brought enough warmish clothes for us. They had records high this week but apparently that was all over with now.

We shivered our way into the front lobby. It was lovely. The layout did remind me of POR though. Here are some pictures.

7392562e.jpg

ca41a84d.jpg

I had done the pre-check in the on the computer. Only because I noticed last trip that the lineup for the pre-checkin was way shorter. I figured ir I had any questions I could always ask. Besides being on the disboards so often I really didn't have any questions.

I hadn’t asked for any particular room as I hadn’t done my research and quite frankly without any children I didn’t care where we were placed. I knew the resort was big and had prepared myself mentally for it. I was ready to walk to the end of the resort lugging my bags.

Well, we got casita 1. It’s the closest building to the main building. In fact it is attached to the main building. Was I ever surprised when the CM showed us on the map. Score. :yay:

4df06a92.jpg

On our walk to our room my first thoughts were about how pretty everything was. How huge the lake (okay I know it’s not a lake but that body of water is pretty huge) looked and how wrong it seemed to be so cold while passing by palm trees.

We made our way up the elevator to our room. Room 1477.

626d6f45.jpg

d8bd3442.jpg

Everything looked okay upon first inspection. But you know that looks can be deceiving but I'll get into that later. After the prerequisite photos I started to unpack. That's when I noticed something strange about my feet. Or rather one in particular. It was wet.

When I walked by the front of the fridge I noticed that my socks got wet.

YUCK!:scared1:

HONEY!” I called in a panic. “Come and check out this wet spot.

After some investigation on his part and some disinfecting of my foot on my part we realized that the fridge was not working. It had leaked and defrosted. We called maintenance.

15efea9b.jpg

They were pretty quick to bring a replacement fridge. It was smaller and they apologized but we were fine with it, as we weren’t planning on using it for anything really.

About now, I realized I had left our refillable mugs at home. Least I be flamed from the boards let me state that DH felt it was perfectly reasonable to reuse our refillable mugs from our trip 5 months ago. The point on whether to reuse them or not was really moot as I had forgotten about them. We discussed whether to purchase new ones or not. They were not part of our dinning plan. Since we were so close to the food court I thought we would get good use out of them. Dh wasn’t so sure.

So Dh went to do some thinking in the room he does his best thinking in.

Really now?” I asked. I was hungry and we had already waited for the replacement fridge. I didn't feel like waiting for him to finish *ahem* thinking.

I finished our unpacking. I turned Stacy on. It wasn’t long before I heard.

Honey!” I hear him calling me.

Wanting to keep my olfactory senses in working order I went closer to the door but left the door closed.

What?

How many towels did you use to wash your foot?

This seemed like an odd question to me. In fact I was waiting to hear the punch line when he repeated the question.

Did you use more than one towel to wash your foot?

I thought I only used one towel.”

Where did you put the towel?

I was quite intrigued now. It’s not often that Dh shows this type of interest in my personal hygiene.

I left that towel and my sock behind the door” You see at the time I wasn’t sure what I had stepped in and I was undecided as to whether I was going to keep said sock or just chuck it. Since I know it was just wet with water from the defrosting broken fridge I decided to keep the sock.

“I’ll pick up the sock later if you don’t mind. You know. After the place has aired out.”

I was getting a little peeved that Mr. .Messy himself was upset that I had left a sock in the bathroom.

No, it’s not the sock. It’s the fact that there is another wet towel hanging on the shower rack and I think it smells. Would you come and smell this?

Of course it smells in there. I am NOT coming in there. If you think it smells that is good enough for me.”

You’re sure you only used this one towel behind the door?

Yes.

Well then, our bathroom has not been cleaned.” He said finally emerging out of the room. “Come and see”.

“Honey, I am tired and I am hungry and to be frank I just don’t have it in me to go and look at the bathroom right now. I want to go down to the food court and get something to eat. Then I will deal with it.”

Okay but where’s the camera. I’ll take a picture of it first.”

Great idea

Here is the picture.

1992fcb1.jpg

Normally a bathroom that was not cleaned would freak me out more. But as I said I had been in the bathroom when I was washing my foot off. I had seen it. It looked fine. I knew it had been cleaned but maybe not as well as it could have been. After looking at the picture I was still determined to get something to eat first. I had seen much worse looking bathrooms on other people’s reports before. This left over towel was not so bad. It was however, a bargaining tool. One we could use to get ourselves some new refillable mugs. And so a plan was laid. We would phone mousekeeping after our meal.

We were off to find out how the mandatory tipping thing worked at Pepper Market.

Coming up. Does one broken fridge and one dirty towel equal two refillable mugs? Click here to find out. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=34905017&postcount=76

Subbing. Another target lover on board!

Welcome! Target Lovers get to ride up front!

You made it out of Target w/o spending $100???? How?!?!?! I HAVE 3 Targets within 10 minutes of my house and I can RARELY get out of there w/o spending $100!!!!

Can't wait for the big resort reveal!!!! popcorn::

I was pretty close to $100. Plus I knew I had my annual Buffalo shopping weekend coming up soon so I could hold off on some things.

UA is worth the money I will admit and buying large is the way to go! I hear you on the style's changing but hanging onto stuff. It cracks me up when I pull out my own "vintage" stuff and it's back in style. That makes me feel old!

So sorry that happened again yesterday, how frustrating. I was wondering if your Dh made the connection with the larger bill and the upgrade before the fact, or if he didn't realize how much the original bill was in the first place! I can't wait to see the reaction.

My DH would have been a nightmare of stress with the 2 missed shuttles, it'd be easier if it didn't bug him so maybe that's a blessing.

Like I had mentioned Dh suspected something but he was thinking along the lines of a special wine and dine thing to do with the festival of food and wine going on. I just let him think that.

Dh never stresses about being late. He leaves that to me.

LOL...my house is the opposite. DW usually is the one who is late. I am the one who have to chase her out. If she's on time, that usually means trouble. Look what happen to my camera bag. :rotfl:

So you know what I go through. I often lie to Dh about what time we need to be places. It's just easier that way.

Hi Diamond! Sorry I've been lurking on your TR's too scared to post since I had yet to start up my writing my TR again (you were the one faithful reader giving me "bumps.") I had followed your previous "Adults" only trip and had a great time reading it! I can't wait to see how your DH reacts to his surprise upgrade. We did start our TR again, and if you have time to check it out please do! (Link is in my signature below) I promise that I am not going to stop till I actually finish this time!

I've popped back into yours too! Maybe we can both give each other bumps to keep going.

:rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

What an ordeal getting to the airport, but at least you got alone time at Target! :thumbsup2 Can't wait to hear how DH likes the resort switch.

You know it! Although I often wonder what DH would say if he wrote a TR from his perspective.

Welcome! Glad you're enjoying it. I must say Dh was much less grumpy this trip. He's getting better. Baby steps but better.

Great update! Can't wait to see how DH takes the news on the upgrade! Target Wars had me cracking up! I like Target, but usually wind up wandering around electronics while DW does whatever it is she does in there.

Love the name "Target Wars". Am I the only one who can see an entire reality show based on it. Think of the marketing Target could get too. It would be like a battle of the sexes show while shopping. Of course you'll have to share the profits with me. But just think we could retire to Disney with it.

Great trip report so far, but I wanna hear what you thought of the resort and where your room was.......
PLUS....where is the target in Buffalo, is it near the airport? Is it in the mall?

give us more, give us more.!!
oh and merry christmas!:santa:

Okay you got it. Well, I didn't talk much about the room. I thought the room was a little dark. Not compared to the AKL though. I'm not sure that the white bedding is such a good idea. I thought the sliding doors to the bathroom were pretty but overall I wasn't impressed with the decor of the room. It was serviceable. The resort was beautiful though. I have more pictures in the day light coming up.

The Target I went to was the one near the Walden Galleria. It's across the street and on the other side of the highway intersection. So no not really near the airport. It's like 15 minutes away. I think there is another closer. I went to it once when I stayed overnight at the bestwestern. Now I use my GPS to look up things like that. Do you have one yet?

Really hoping you liked CSR. We loved it. We also loved the Pepper Market's food - we were lucky with our weather & were able to eat outside so skipped the tipping. Hope you get your mugs!! popcorn::

I like DH's incredulous look when you told him about CSR! I do hope the experience gets better though -- I am a little worried between the fridge leaking and the dirty towel.

So - I am curious - does one dirty towel and a broken refrigerator = 2 mugs???? I'm loving your TR so far. Great pics. I love how surprised your DH was. I hope you guys start to love CSR. You certainly had a primo location.

Looking forward to reading more!

Wow. Broken Fridge and creepy wet towel. I think it's a pretty sure thing you will be getting some refillable mugs! :lmao:

Jeff would have been VERY crabby about mandatory tipping at a Food Court. Like outright ugly refuse to eat there crabby. I had no idea that existed and am terribly curious to read about how that worked out.

LOL on the no knowledge.....Jeff doesn't know yet about the cruise next year. I still can't believe I've gotten him to agree, heck even suggest DCA for April so it will be quite a qhile before he ears about it! Like a year!

I'm a little EEW about the wet carpet, leaky fridge and towel....I really hope it works out.

Oh you had better get something for dirty towels and a broken fridge!!!!

Happy Holidays!!!

ick with the frig and the towel! Yuck!! I hope things got better after that!!!!!

I took pictures of DH when I broke the news to him. Here he is.

Looks like he took it well!

My initial excitement died down and instead of getting revived up by the movie I had to admit it but I fell asleep. I totally missed taking a picture of the front gates to the property.:sad2:

You must have been exhausted! You can try again in July!

“Just maybe not the type of fun we’re looking for this weekend.” He says with a twinkle in his eye and a tentacle escaping momentarily.

Hmmmm...

Really hoping you liked CSR. We loved it. We also loved the Pepper Market's food - we were lucky with our weather & were able to eat outside so skipped the tipping. Hope you get your mugs!! popcorn::

CSR is beautiful. The grounds were lovely. Large, but lovely.

My first trip to pepper market is coming up in the next chapter!

I like DH's incredulous look when you told him about CSR! I do hope the experience gets better though -- I am a little worried between the fridge leaking and the dirty towel.

Definitely not the best introduction to our room. But Disney was pretty quick to fix everything.

Wow. Broken Fridge and creepy wet towel. I think it's a pretty sure thing you will be getting some refillable mugs! :lmao:

It was a creepy wet towel. Only it was dry now. I suspect it had been a few days since the room was inhabited.

Jeff would have been VERY crabby about mandatory tipping at a Food Court. Like outright ugly refuse to eat there crabby. I had no idea that existed and am terribly curious to read about how that worked out.

I'm a little EEW about the wet carpet, leaky fridge and towel....I really hope it works out.

My Dh was crabby about it. I explain more about how it works in my next installment.

It was stressful keeping the secret from Dh and I only had to keep it for about 5 weeks. I could never hold out the long. Good luck.

Oh you had better get something for dirty towels and a broken fridge!!!!

Happy Holidays!!!

I suppose we could have been greedier with our demands. I was still just so happy to be in Disney that it really didn't phase me.

ick with the frig and the towel! Yuck!! I hope things got better after that!!!!!

Things get better. We really enjoyed ourselves this trip.

Looks like he took it well!

He did!

We were both thrilled with how close our room was too! When we stayed at POR in 2008 we were way out in the boonies!

Double yuck! Not the best way to start your vacation!

No it was not the best start. However, I had seen worse looking bathrooms and other gross room states on other people's reports. Plus I knew Disney would make it up to us. That's one of the reasons we love Disney. They always try to make everything right.

Hey girl,

We have come to expect great TR's from you, and you keep delivering:cool1: Love the fact that you surprised your hubby, good for you!! I can't wait to see more pics from that resort, Jasmine wants to stay there at some point and I almost booked it for next month, but went with ASMo instead:confused3 More shopping money for the mama!!!

Can't wait to read more!!! Just watching the weather channel and looks like you're getting quite the snowfall....we're sitting at -40 with the wind chill....not doing much today!!!

My last chapter had Dh and I arriving at the Coronado Springs Resort for the first time. We were greeted with a prime location room allotment but a leaky fridge and the last guest’s towels. Not so magical.

We were hungry so off to the Pepper Market we went. I couldn't deal with it on an empty stomach. I needed food. Actually I needed alcohol. So we closed the door on the unsanitary room and took off. I should mention Dh had phoned to complain and we were waiting for a manager to call us back. I didn't want to wait so off we went.

Back months ago when I had first booked the trip I had aspirations of going to downtown Disney tonight but I let it go. I didn’t want to overtire Dh on arrival day. I had sworn to keep this trip fairly low key meaning lots of naps and lounging by the pool. So I revamped to just our local counter service provider pepper market.

I warned him about the tipping procedure at the Pepper Market (which is CSR counter service). I had heard that this counter service was different than others. I knew that a CM seated us at tables and each table has a server assigned to them. Again I warned Dh that they charged a mandatory service charge here.

Since our room was in building one we were at the restaurant in no time. The ceilings were huge and the place was covered in bright festive colours. We had to wait to be seated and were asked if we were on the dinning plan. We explained that we were on the one table, one counter service, and one snack plan. The CM that seated us handed us each a piece of paper that we order our food with. She explained that here we order our food and the CM’s would stamp our paper card. After we finished eating we would proceed to the exit with our cards and pay for our food.

So once she left us, we got up to go order. Like I mentioned I was hungry. But then I spied something else.

A Margarita.

I had to have one. It took me some time to get one. It was worth it. Yum! :cool1::banana::yay:

eefd7fb3.jpg

I love this picture of me. I'm thinking of using it for my avatar.

I realize why it was difficult to get my drink a bit later. The CM assigned to our table was supposed to get our drinks. Not me. Opps. :rolleyes1

Along with my margarita I had the salmon with veggies and a chocolate cake. Sorry I guess I didn't get a picture of the cake.

7ccd15ad.jpg

The Salmon was really good. Cooked just right. Of course I had finished most of marguarita ahead of time and was starving so my taste buds might have been a little off.

Dh had a steak rancheros and an apple cobbler. We took the desserts to go.

eab35c7f.jpg

Off we went to the exit to pay for our dinners with our keys to the world card. When we signed our counter service credits away the cashier did not charge us a tip. I asked why she didn’t. She explained that she never does if you are on the dinning plan.

Then I felt bad that I hadn’t tipped our server. However, I hadn’t brought any cash with me. Just my card. So I couldn’t tip. I felt awful. I was afraid the Disney karma would come back and bite me somehow. Dh had some Canadian coins in his pocket. So we left a toonie. For you Americans a toonie is our Canadian 2 dollar coin. The server probably didn’t know what to do with it either but at least I felt a bit better. Plus like Scarlett I vowed that tomorrow was another day and I promised myself (and any Disney Karma that was listening) that when we came back tomorrow I would be prepared to tip properly.

After dinner we wandered through the gift shop. I didn’t get anything I was just looking to see what they were offering. Dh didn’t particularly like that excuse so I told him I was checking to see if they sold the rice crispy Mickey heads. I had promised the kids to bring them back one. So while I wandered happily with no particular direction Dh searched for the Mickey heads. I should have sent him looking for something a little harder to locate because before I knew it, he had found them and therefore the reason for being in the gift shop was over.

Then we phoned home to check in on the kids. They were all fine. My parents were hanging in there and had everything covered. Dh wanted to check his messages. Since we are Canadian using our cell phone in the states results in astronomical charges. Instead we bought a phone card and used a public phone. I was going to complain to Dh about him checking in at work but instead decided to head back to the gift shop to look around.

They had all the Halloween stuff out. In fact in the front display they had Halloween shaped rice crispy treats. I looked closely at a hoodie. It was awfully cold out tonight. I tried to pack light since we were only here for three nights plus it had been quite warm this week (in Florida I mean.) so I didn’t have much in the way of heavy clothing. I decided not to get the hoodie tonight but come back later if I needed to.

Dh rejoined me and we thought about walking the perimeter of the lake (okay largish water body) on our way back to our room. I wanted to check out the main pool. We made it about 50 feet when we both decided we were too cold and it was too long a walk. We backtracked and headed to our room.

I have since looked up some stats about CSR. It is .41 of a mile from the farthest rooms(the cabana's were farther) to the restaurant so I guess around the whole "lake" would be about a mile. So I'm glad we didn't

Once there Dh went into business mode. We had a message from a manager. He called back and complained about the towel and our broken leaky fridge.

Here he is making his official complaints.

fb088ceb.jpg

He was handed off from manager to manager and eventually someone finally asked what it would take to make him happy. He said he wanted money off our rooms and two refillable mugs. He got it. They couldn’t just give him the mugs though. They just credited our keys to the world.

I'm not supposed to mention how much money it was but it was enough to put a big smile on Dh's face.

Feeling on top of the world now that our account had a credit, we had a new fridge (although a smaller one) and that housekeeping had arrived and re-scrubbed our bathroom we headed to bed. We had a full day ahead of ourselves tomorrow. We were heading to the food and wine festival. But first we were going to get a very famous (at least here on the disboards) breakfast. The one, the only…

Tonga Toast!

We had tasted it last trip and it was easy to convince Dh to go back for more this trip. What might not be so easy to convince Dh to do was to go with my early morning plan of taking a taxi directly to the poly. Was I going to be able to convince Dh to spend money on transportation when the Disney buses were free?

If I had any hope of convincing him-I knew I had to keep him in a good mood. What could I possibly do tonight all alone with him in a hotel room to keep that smile on his face?:confused3

Well, after racking my brain I turned on the sports channel.:happytv:

I let him watch all his updates without interrupting him. Not even once! You didn’t think I meant something else did you?:rolleyes1

Stay tuned to find out if we make our early morning Kona ADR or not. Do I convince Dh to use the taxi option? Click here to find out. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=35007163&postcount=104

Thanks for the compliment. Make sure you let me know when you start a PTR or TR for your next trip. I love ASMu too. I'm sure you'll be happy there. More spending money is always good.

I didn't realize Thomas was coming until I saw your ticker.

I definitely thought you meant something else!

Octopus man and all.

Wow that food looked REALLY good for counter service! YUM!

Very glad you got your credit!!:cool1::cool1::cool1:

Fun update, as always.

When we stayed at CSR in April, 2008, we really enjoyed all the food we got from the Pepper Market! Wish I had tried one of those margaritas you had, though! That is a great pic of you! :thumbsup2

Woo hoo for two mugs and a credit! Disney always seems to try and do the right thing!

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: about watching the Sports Channel.

Great update! Keep them coming!
We just returned home from Buffalo - lots of snow that direction! Are you all getting hit in Canada as well?
