OK, this is not to debate the issues. This is simply to take an unscientific poll of Dis members. If you want to bump this thread, feel free with a simple 'bump' or 'great idea' or 'sam_gordon should take over WDW' :lmao:, but please, lets not start another back & forth.

You should have made number 2 'Submit to the hand search, as long as you are guaranteed the person of your choice will give it." I imagine Johnny Depp would be popular, as well as Brad Pitt.;)

Alas, you didn't have that for an option, so I had to choose another.

I wonder how much finding another mode of transportation is as a truthfull option?

I have taken few flights to somewhere I could of otherwise reasonably driven to. There is not a bus or train from where I live.

I dont think this a realistic poll. People on this board have OCD disney disease. So of course they will fly to get their disney fix. Most people visit disney once in a lifetime and can do without it. I personally will not fly after this next trip to disney, but I am not disney fanatic. I can live without flying and disneys not worth the money or the hassle or getting gropped. Outside of these board I have not found too many people that think disney is not overpriced. So yes I think there will be a reduction in air travel. Some due to the new security measures and some due to the dollar devaluation and inflation. Look how oil prices are increasing. It will just be a matter of time until this affects airfare.

I think you have no idea who frequents the transportation board. the people on here are frequent fliers whose trips to Disney are but a tip of the iceberg to there flying trips.

Most have hundreds of other flights or at least tens of other flights to every Disney flight!

Neither do you know who frequents disney boards. Most people in this country cannot afford to fly much less take a disney trip so why would they care about security. People that take disney trips are obviously well paid and can afford to fly on a regular basis. If you think most americans can afford a disney trip then your not in touch with reality. There are a lot of people in this world just because the disney resorts are full due to deep discounts does not meant this it is affordable to most people. Disney is a luxury that only a few get to enjoy. There are many types of people on this board and I am sure a lot of them save all year to be able to fly to disney.

I never said all the Disney boards. I specifically said THE Transportation board. The people on this board a very different from those on many of the other boards on this site. Most of the people on here are flying for far more than just to go to Disney as I said.

This response makes absolutely no sense. You are the one who commented about the travel habits of posters ON THIS BOARD. You said the poll was not realistic because:

People on this board have OCD disney disease. So of course they will fly to get their disney fix.

As Hannathy said, many if not most of the frequent posters here are frequent travelers, and Disney is just one of myriad destinations for them. (And I include myself in that group. I travel a lot for work...I go to Disney about 2 times per year.)

Hannathy never said Disney is affordable or flying is affordable. She/he said that you are mistaken if you assume most posters on this board fly only to Disney.

On the poll I selected the Full Body Scan. I figure if theTSA wants to see my big ole butt live and in color on that screen then that's fine with me.

*however, I do prefer to drive but, it has nothing to do with security. I like having my own car and I think driving is part of the fun, plus DH is cheap so he likes the saving we get from driving. If for some reason we need to fly somewhere then I would opt for the full body scan.

That would be me! I've flown about 20,000 miles this year. I travel frequently for work and don't really have a choice for alternate transportation. I can see me telling my boss I'm taking a train to California from PA because I don't want to submit to a scan or patdown. I went to India for work last year, how would I do that? Ship? Actually, I would not want to travel any other way, get me there the fastest way! I'll just submit to the scan (I already have) and be on my way! From everything I read, the radiation is minimal and I don't care if someone is getting a kick at viewing my middle age body.

I went through the scan a week ago in Milwaukee so the answer was easy for me.

Likewise us at BWI--in and out of the scanner in a few seconds.

Should add tho that we fly ONLY because it is a lot faster than driving--I HATE nearly everything about planes, airports, etc etc. But I swallow my annoyance and submit to things because I'm at WDW is less than 2 hours. Same coming home.

I find this pretty darned funny. Depending on things like where you live, how many family members you have, and what kind of car you drive, flying can be quite a bit cheaper than driving to WDW. And once you factor in things like missed worked time, it can be a lot cheaper to fly!

I know that if I would care to drive 2 hours from my house to an aiport, I could about half my air fare. But I am lazy, so I fly out of the airport that is 10 miles from my house instead. So this trip I paid just over $200 for a round trip ticket. And let me tell you, retail sales is not what I would call a well paying job. But I think that $200 for a flight to WDW is a pretty darned great price.

If you don't like the poll, why did you feel the need to post on it? Maybe you should start your own poll, rather than put this one down?

The only problem is the poll doesn't say anything about a trip to Disney... simply "which of these would you pick"? It could be for a trip to WDW, DL, work, family, etc. If most of the people on here only fly to disney... eh, ok. I don't go to flyertalk or any of the other frequent flyer sites to ask them. If you want to, go ahead.

I do know who frequents this board...and there are a lot of posters who are NOT Disney fanatics. More than you would believe.
I just watched GMA this morning. They had numbers that showed the flying public believed that the scanners were not an issue. The percentage was something like 78% or such..it was much higher than I would have thought. Those were not Disney people, they were everyday flying people.
You are not going to change your mind, and that's fine. But you can't continue to try and negate what everyone else says. You are starting to lack any credence at all.

I voted "submit to scanners"....this just isn't that big a deal to me.

You are absolutely correct. I am not a Disney fanatic at all. I fly frequently, often internationally and only visit Disney every few years. In fact, in the future will probably only visit to take my grandson. There are so many fantastic places to see all over the world, I don't understand why so many people only go to Disney. To each his own.

And I notice that after a couple of days that the percentage of people here on the DIS (who voted) is around 75% of them saying do the body scan...... so, the DIS world appears, at this point, to be very close to the real world.

Some times the drama that unfolds on the DIS makes people reading it think that the drama is an unbelievably large issue, when in real light it is a small fraction of people who are voicing their opinions.....

Message boards frequently have many, many, many more negative threads going than positive. People who get great service or get exactly what they expect don't come on here much and post it. But if someone's seat was changed or their flight was cancelled, everyone on the DIS hears about it......

Duds

I'd opt for the scan given the choice. But as a wheelchair user I've been getting the pat down ever since 9/11. I don't have a choice I'm forced into the pat down or I don't fly.

The pat down really isn't that bad, I'd just prefer the faster option.

I hate both options. It was a tough decision but I went with the scan. I had to have a body pat once and it was very embarassing and time consuming. She spent way too much time patting around my bra area because the wand kept beeping (from my underwire bra).

I live too far away to even consider driving.
