OMG, the food from the Publix deli is really good!

I had some of the best potato salad (southern style of course) I've ever had, and I'm a serious potato salad snob!

Not really an Orlando "attraction" but if you have a rental car and are willing to head off site, picking up deli stuff for meals to bring back to your room is a real winner, in our book.

Fried chicken, all sorts of bakery goods, soups, a salad bar, rotisserie chickens, every kind of picnic salad or bean you can think of in go containers of all sizes, gourmet cheese and deli meats...

Sorry, Disney, but the food from Publix tasted better than most of what you served us and cost half the price, or less.

And they have the Best pecan coffee cake I have ever tasted. I have to get one or two on each trip. I don't have publix where I live so it's a must for me.

excellent key lime pie too. And the best veggie subs.....

I've never been able to understand why anyone touts the "food" at Disney. The fast food is not even as good - at twice the price - as McDonalds or BK which I would avoid anyway. The buffets and mid-range are at least 1/3 higher than outside and, again, not top quality. The top sit down restaurants can be OK - a few are even pretty good - but again higher priced than equal or better outside the World. Why pay more for food that simply isn't the best?

No surprise to me that you prefer Publix or any other restaurant that has food as the focus vs a sideline at a theme park.

Is the Publix very large? I've a towncar coming for us that'll make a stop at Publix. I just want water and a few snacks for the room. I was hoping it wasn't huge because I didn't want to spend too much time searching for things.

Thanks for the heads up on the coffee cake...I love pecans!!!

Is the Publix very large?

Most are nice sized but not like a Super Walmart or Super Target if that is your gauge of large. Not very hard at all to find the deli at any of them tho plus most around the parks know that tourists come for beverages, bananas, cereal, sunscreen and deli items and they are all very central and visible in these stores. Their Boar's Head variety of subs are excellent. Still, when we do our DVC stays, we will still prefer some of our favorite eateries in WDW. Yes, some choices on property aren't that great, but there are many that we go out of our way to eat at.

I miss Publix  ...growing up in Orlando that was our primary grocery store and then when I lived in Charleston they started building them there. DH and I would frequently go there for lunch for their subs...they are tasty and not crowded like Subway! All of their deli stuff is tasty...they even have the best store-bought birthday cakes I have ever tasted.

I even ordered a Christmas dinner from the Publix deli by calling ahead! It worked out very well for us. We always stop to get some Lebanon bologna (more like thuringer sausage) and some pimento cheese dip.

I'll be deprived on our short F & W visit -- we're using ME for the first (and probably only time) but really won't need extras with Party for the Senses and the food booths! ;) Just look for some older folks -- still young in spirit -- waddling back to BWV.

love Publix!!! Orlando, Kissimmee and Lake buena Vista - all have them.

they finally got to Ala a couple of years ago.

really love this place.

they have never, even once, overcharged me for an item. the only grocery store (so far) that has that record!!!!

even Walmart and super target plus every grocery store except Publix - has tried that ploy - you know put an ad in the aisle and then charge twice as much and see if the customer checks it.

Publix - does NOT play these games. Makes it more than worthwhile to even go out of my way for one.

so their honest, food, and the deli - plus these stores are generally very, very clean - all make this a really great store.

We did our Thanksgiving dinner last year (had the whole family - wife, kids, MIL, SIL and her kids, and my mom) at a WH condo and ordered our food from Publix. It was AWESOME. From the turkey to the sides to the service, all good things... But as previous poster said - ordering ahead is key...

we did that last year too. we were out of state and came back the day before Thanksgiving so we didn't have time. we called ahead and picked it up that night. it WAS awesome.

Publix shoppers ... I have a quick question. When an item is on sale as buy one get one free, do you have to buy 2 items or does one ring up half price? I plan on checking the Publix site before we leave to see what's on sale, to have an idea what I'm shopping for.

Love Publix. Love it. There were rumors of Publix locating in our area a few years ago, but it turned out to just be a rumor :(

You have to buy 2. But if an item is on sale 2 for $3.00, if you purchase just one it will be $1.50 rather than regular price.

We love the Publix at Orange Lake and will be using it again when we visit in March. I have never thought of ordering a Turkey from there though. Do they only have them on Holidays or can you order them by the pound through out the rest of the year. We have 8 of us staying at a WH villa so I would like to order a large Turkey (22 lb) and have leftovers! Yummmy! :cool1:
