A Plea to Pin Traders

Please excuse my vent. After having many a run in with pin traders today I have a small plea...

Please, please, pretty please be considerate of other guests when you want to look at pins and possibly pin trade with a CM who is already helping another guest.

If I am talking to a CM please do not interrupt me mid sentence, step half in front of me and demand to the CM - "let me see your pins".

If I am in the middle of a transaction at an ice cream cart please do not elbow me in the side as you get closer to the counter, give me a dirty look for being in your way and then say to the CM "hey, what is that pin there".

Ok, look in front of the CM. See that line of 8 people at the check out counter at Mouse Gear? We are all ahead of you. We have been waiting in line for our turn. Please be considerate of us. If you had waited in line we would be considerate of you while you looked at the CMs pins.

No, we do not care that you are "only looking at the pins". We have been waiting in line, you have not. Please wait your turn.

No, we do not believe you when you snarl "it will only take a second". It is not a matter of how long it takes, it is a matter of waiting your turn and not interrupting a transaction.

When someone asks you very nicely to "please wait your turn" and you exclaim "well, you don't have to be rude" - do not be surprised if that person retorts "Apparently I do!". (Saw someone say this a pin trader today who cut in front of her in line and then proceeded to tell her off for being upset about it)

To all the courteous pin traders out there who wait in line, take their turn and have respect for other guests, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can see how pin trading can be lots of fun, a neat way to meet people and an enjoyable pass time and appreciate that you are a considerate pin trader.

I agree. We always wait in line to trade with CMs in the stores. It really burns me up when someone jumps in front and trades for the pin I was waiting for. I can't even count how many times it has happened.

That is rule #1 that we taught our kids when we started Pin Trading. Never ask a CM to see pins if they are dealing with another Guest.

It amazes me how the CM's can maintain a smile and still be cordial (must be fantastic training!) when they have to deal with rude guests all day! It really doesn't take much to wait patiently, ask politely and then thank a CM for letting you view their pins.

Fortunately we only saw a few "rudesters" when at WDW in December. Maybe more holiday pixie dust was in the air.

Fine as long as you don't walk in front of me as if I am not there when I am looking at a pin lanyard. Or jump line in front of me as I sit to the side in my wheelchair waiting for the castmember to let me look at the lanyard. Just because I am in a wheelchair doesn't mean I am invisible or am to be served after the able bodied.

I practiced a high amount of respect and courtesy in waiting for others to finish with a cast member before looking at their pins. Many times I would wait in line as though I was buying something or wait for a manager to finish looking something up for a customer. Many times, the cm would come looking for me in the shop to let me see their lanyard.

I believe most of us are courteous when it comes to pin trading. However, the OP has a valid complaint, there are some who are just plain RUDE, just as there are pin sharks (those who take those unfair advantage of new pin traders). CMs are just too polite to tell them to wait their turn.

I also believe that the wheelchair complaint has much more validity, having pushed one around the parks countless times. We are invisible or they run in front of you and then glare at you when you don't stop in time and run over their heels. Just because you are in a Disney park, if you were rude before you came in, you don't change your behavior (much) when you go thru the turnstile.

I was amazed after our Fairytale Wedding experience when our group was complimented on our behavior from Wedding to the end of the reception. We heard CMs tell of other experiences where they were treated like personal butlers, maids, or worse (think Cinderella prior to meeting the Prince).
