A Pirate looks at 30

Day 3 - A pirate turns 30.

Cast:

Darren aka ktulu aka darrrrren - me, now 30, and I'm a pirate, arrrrr
Jill - my wife, 26, not a pirate, but the best wife in the world!

Arrrrr, keep firin' ye filthy dogs, don't be lettin' them little swabs get the better of ye with their horrible singin', tis be a small world when we get done with em, arrrrrr, and stop that ringing!!!!

6:30am, phone rings. Same kid as before, don't recall the song he played, but again, there's some big doins goin on. I find out who this kid is, I'll give him some big doins. We might as well wake up, we need to be at the Poly for breakfast at 8:15 or so. Jill leans over, gives me a kiss and tells me happy birthday. Arrrrr, it tis me birthday today! I quickly pull out what I'll be wearing, orange/lime green shirt to attract attention to myself and also to draw out my fellow DIS'ers. Nice pair of shorts, socks, underwear, and my crown. Yes, I will look nice. Jill gives me a present (as if this fabulous trip wasn't enough!) and it's a very nice titanium ring for me to wear as a substitute for my wedding ring. We're very paranoid about losing my wedding ring, Jill lost hers to the pacific on a visit to southern California one summer. Sand ripped it right off her finger, very sad and we'll speak no more about this!

*boop woop* We head out, it's not until now that I'm made aware that Jill has left my crown at home. We head down to the bus stop and hop on the bus bound for the TTC. The bus ride takes 5 minutes, 47 seconds to get to the TTC. We head to the monorail line and hop aboard. I blink and we are at the Poly. We head over to Ohana and check in. We're given a buzzer, which I wonder why since we see empty tables, calling to us, sit here, no waiting. Then it happens, another way for Disney to make a buck. They take us over to some signs to have our picture taken. After they sign the necessary release forms to take my picture, the buzzer magically goes off. Next time we are there, I really need to test my theory that a camera flash makes it go off.

We grab some pineapple bread, and head to our table. Our Cousin comes out, gives us coffee and juice and tells us what she'll be bringing out. Sounds good, I'll have two of those I say. We settle in and look at the setting around us, nice, a bit on the 70's side for us, but we're happy. Mickey stops by for a photo opportunity with me. Jill gets some pictures, and while waiting, our cousin brings me a birthday cupcake. Mickey is there to sing, errrr dance errrr be there for the singing of the birthday song. I comment to Mickey that the singing sounded like the American Idol rejects, and he agrees. Mickey poses with Jill and he's off to visit with the next table. At some point there was a parade to 'Oh I just can't wait to be King' and I think back to when I felt the same way. It was a pleasant spring afternoon. The grass was green from the previous days rain shower, Mom was in the kitchen baking fresh muffins, and Dad had just returned from a long day of looting a village.

Sorry, got side tracked. Goofy came over and leaned on me to rest. He must have thought I was some sort of fixture, although I was not wearing my leisure suit, so I don't know why I blended in with the 70's decor. He posed for a photo with Jill and wondered off. Chip came by, same thing, he heard I was there and wanted to get his picture with me.

Jill found a piece of bacon that looked like a dolphin, so we took a picture of it.

We were disappointed, Dale (the smart one) had not come by. Then we spotted him. A table had just been seated, and he was visiting with the man and his two kids. Dale took their container of Jelly and stuck it in his clothes. The girls, obviously needing jelly, told Dale to give it back. He did, but as soon as they were distracted, Dale took all the Jelly out and hid it from them. That's what I want to do, dress as chip or dale, they seem to be able to get away with anything. "It was so funny, you should have seen Chip driving off in my Ferrari after play beating Dad to the ground and taking his wallet and keys, it was a riot."

Dale did finally visit us, he got his picture with me, but refused to have his picture taken with Jill, something about not posing with anyone more beautiful than him. Anyway, we finished eating and headed out. Total bill was like $300 or something, plus tip. Food was good and plentiful, and a tip for you folks out there who like to eat, free refills on everything!

Arrrrrr matey's at this point me be stuffed like a shark in a smorgasbord. Me and me beauty go back to the Lodge to drop off the pictures we purchased (sucker! haha, oh wait I bought them! doh!). We then sprint to the bus stop and push a nice little old lady in a wheel chair off the curb and throw her 4 year old grandson into the bushes to distract the others waiting so we can get on the bus. Me plans worked so well they were all confused and boarded the bus marked Epcot. Arrrrr, me be a genius!

We arrive at Disney's MGM Studios in fashion, aboard a stretch bus! First order of the day, Jill gets me another present, my very own pal...mickey! The nice CM helps him out of the box, and tells us where to get him activated. A cool $50 later and we head to the store to get him activated. The CM who activated Mickey didn't seem very nice, but she got the job done. Next stop, Rock N Roller coaster for a fast pass. This place is crowded, and there are lots of people waiting around for their return time. Why not just wait in the stand by line if you're going to stand around out here?

Next stop, Muppet 3D! We go in and I take Jill over to the first door by the turnstiles and tell her to lift up the mat, we both laugh and people look at us like we're crazy. I get more crazy looks when I point out a net full of jello. After Muppet's it's about time for our FP return on RnR. We stop at the Tower of Terror (I can't read that without hearing Mickey say it) and get fast passes for it. RnR is great, I really enjoy that coaster, especially since it's all inside, it makes for a great ride. We walk over by Who Wants to be a millionaire - play it and end up inside the Walt Disney movie thing. I want to see more of the models, but Jill says the movie is starting, so we watch that. The movie is amazing, and we learn things about Walt we did not know, like his teeth where made of wool. We get fast passes for Millionaire.

The Great Movie Ride line looks short and we jump in line for that. 20 minutes and one smelly rude family later and we're on the ride. Good fun, and I'm amused as the girl next to me (maybe 14) and I try the entire time to keep our legs from touching. I must be repulsive, or maybe it's the parrot droppings on my shirt, I AM a pirate!

We then stroll back over to the Tower of Terror. The new drop sequences are great! The seat belt only is great too. Mickey seemed to enjoy it, and was glad we made it out okay. We ponder buying slippers like our Bates Motel slippers but pass.

Again, we walk back to the other side, it's not quite time for Millionaire, we're feeling hungry and we have about 30 minutes to spare. We need food, the fast kind. We wonder over to the ABC commissary, I figure I can tell a director or two about some T.V. show ideas. I'm shocked to find out that this is just a regular counter service place. No directors, no producers, no grips, nothing. There is a rude family or two there, amazing eh? We both get fish and chips and diet cokes, total cost is around $20 or so, I don't really remember, but if you want to know, two orders of fish and chips, and two medium diet cokes, go there and order it for yourself :-P

They need to have wait times for the food. We get our blazing hot food and manage to find a table. Jill can watch T.V. and I can watch the people racing to get an empty table. The food is not too bad, about what you expect at a counter service place. It's almost time for our FP at Millionaire, so we eat as quick as we can and cruise over there. On the way we see characters in front of the great movie ride. We don't stop, and I think Stitch flipped me the bird, his badness level was probably pretty high, I know mine would be if I was stuck out in that heat!

Millionaire, cool set. The host comes out, between his bald head and mine (by choice!) we are blinding 1/2 of the audience. The game starts and before you know it, I'm in the hot seat! I'm answering questions amazing everyone at how smart I am, and before you know it, I'm at the last question, I have one life line left, phone a friend. I don't recall the question, I was too excited because I won! We're going on a cruise!

Just kidding, (remember, I'm a pirate!). The only cruise I'm going on is the free boat ride to the MK from the WL :) Jill and I both do poorly, neither of us get on the leader board like some of the nerds on the DIS do, but we're still having a good time playing along. We leave empty handed, except for pal Mickey, he got the phone number of this hot stuffed Minnie Mouse plush toy, they are going to pleasure island tonight.

One thing I did not do was get the birthday button. The one at MGM was just okay, one woman had one for her son, but didn't like it and they said that MK had different ones. So Jill and I hop into a bus bound for the TTC, we were done with MGM for today. At the TTC Jill mentions to the CM who I am and what today is, he is ashamed of himself for not knowing any better, I forgive him and he gives us seats up front on the express monorail to the MK. Our drivers is a 20 year old kid who is working at WDW during the summer, he's been a monorail pilot for about 7 months. I'm amazed at how young some of the people who operate things like the Monorail are. Then again, we do have 20 year olds driving tanks and things like that, so I guess I can approve. (note to self, don't let 18 year old bilge rat know me accepted 20 year old Monorail pilot, don't want him getting the idea that he is capable of doing more than swabbing the deck, arrrr!) We arrive at the MK and I make my grand entrance.

I really like the MK, main street just has the home feeling, but like you're home is not a big major metropolitan area and it just happens that it's a really popular small town, and there happens to be a festival going on, so there are people everywhere. Yep, just like it. We go into guest relations and get my button. Jill and the CM have the big idea that since I'm 30 it should be noted, but no magic marker or pen will write on this button, it's a super button! It's also the same one I could have gotten from MGM. I pin in on and we decide to shop some since we're here. We look around and I'm appalled that I cannot find any bugs bunny stuff. Jill is waiting for CM's to wish me happy birthday, one finally does and Jill missed it, a couple shops later Jill finds the watches and jewelry (the real reason for staying) she find stuff she likes, but doesn't want to buy. I get thousands of birthday wishes, a parade in my honor, keys to the kingdom, free ice cream and a pat on the back by some stranger.

It's time to go, we have a PS at California Grill, and we don't want to be late!

We take the monorail back to the TTC and the bus to the WL. We're back in nothing flat. We have snacks, grab a change of clothes, me wearing a new mickey Hawaiian shirt I got, and oh no! We're going to be late. I grab the camera and Jill, and walk very quickly to the boat dock. I run over a family of 12 walking side by side through the lodge, I'm sure their injuries will heal. We get on the boat to the Contemporary. Ah, a nice relaxing cruise to the Contemp...fort wilderness first!?! Don't they know who I am! I quickly organize a mutiny of the boat, and before you know it we're at the Contemporary. It's time for our PS, we make it and we're only 5 minutes late. Jill told them when she made the PS it was for my birthday and if they could get us a window seat so we can watch the fireworks, we'd really appreciate it. It's noted on the PS, so when we show up, they take us back to the 'wine room' where it's quiet. Yes, it is, but I wanted to, oh never mind, I really don't care. I've seen fireworks before, even shot off a few myself. We order wine and sushi appetizer. The sushi is really good, and the wine goes quickly So we get apple martinis. Jill orders the pork, I get the $33 filet. I mention the price now for a reason.

So the people seated after us start to get their meals. No big deal. They finish their meals. Okay, no big deal. Another table gets their food, way after we ordered, I'm starting to get irritated, and then, it comes! Yay! I'm expecting cold food, but it's perfect. Jill and I dig in. I cut into my filet and I hear it 'moooo'. I look around. Another slice, 'moooo'. I look down, Jill looks over, this is rare. Not medium rare, but RARE, still mooing, Bessy's coming over to gather her parts rare. No big deal, it happens at any place, tell the waitress, she takes it back. Jill enjoys her pork. A new filet makes it back. I cut, and I hear it again, mooo. This time the waitress stuck around. Sure enough, rare, here comes Bessy, you know the routine. Back she goes. Fireworks are starting, we tell her to hold it (hold it on the grill and maybe you can get it cooked right) and we go watch them. Oooh, ahhhh. We go back in. Hey, look, electric water pageant. Manager comes with my filet, I cut into it, it's medium. Yay, I eat, Jill watches. We don't want dessert, nothing really looks good, they bring the free happy birthday cheesecake. The manager bought the martinis since I had to send my steak back twice.

Hey Kids, it's time for another "We're from Texas and everything is better there" story! I know you people will argue, but you only do it because you know it's true :)

Now, in Texas, we know about beef. We know that a good cut of meat should be enjoyed as raw as possible, but you still cook it to the customers liking. Also, in Texas, when they screw up twice on a $33 filet, they usually give it to you, but then again, they expect you to come back, and maybe the manager didn't think we'd be back. Guess again sucker, I'll be back and make you recook steak until you get it right!

The food was wonderful as usual, the service, not too good. We arrived at 8:25 and left at 10:40, this was total time in the place, including watching the fireworks, which we didn't see all of. That was the longest dinner I think I ever went to that only had two people eating. Being my birthday, I didn't let it get to me. We leave full and go downstairs to the monorail. We ride it to the TTC and bus back to the WL. Total trip time, 1 dog hour, which is like 25 minutes in human time, or something like that.

I drag my tired body into the room, and lo and behold there is a platter of chocolate covered strawberries on top of shaved chocolate, a note saying call room service and a message on the phone saying the same. I call down and quicker than you can say arrrrrrrrrr a guy arrives at the door with a bottle of champagne. Jill, being that sly person she is, managed to surprise me with this. Normally she can't do that. We enjoy the strawberries and champagne. Cute little chocolate tuxes and all!

Satisfied that I got to spend the day at my favorite vacation spot with my favorite person, we go to sleep. I'm now 30. People in their 20's are looked at as young still, fun loving, kinda crazy, people over 40 wise. People in their 30's, I don't know, we're just there, in limbo I guess. No matter, it's in God's plan that we all get older, I can't stop it, so I might as well go with it, and besides, I am a pirate, arrrrrrrrrrrr!

Next: Day 4 - A visit with some old friends.

Another great day! Do we ever get to see your pictures? I'm not sure that my life can be complete without seeing dolphin-shaped bacon!

I've got the pictures, I need to actually upload them, but I plan on putting pictures and the trip reports on one of my websites, I'll post the link as soon as I'm done with it, it'll be sometime after I put up the last report of our trip.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying the reports! That makes it worth the time to change the incoherent ramblings I put on the notes and turn them into an entertaining report.
