A Photo Safari Halloween Solo Trip for Oct'13: Trip Report Started!

How about a different spin on photo to-dos? Emotions or moments?

"Love" (it could be princess/prince, parent/child, child/character) or "Excitement"? I love capturing details but I also loo for unique moments.

I love your foggy morning shot!

Absolutely love this idea! :thumbsup2

I can create a separate category for description of emotions and moments and try to capture it with one caveat. I have been avoiding taking and keeping close-up pictures of strangers/people unless I have their permission because I found that it feels uncomfortable snapping a photograph of what could be a very private and intimate moment for them. When I do see an irresistibly beautiful human moment, I try to get permission before I snap the picture or if it's a fleeting moment, snap it and then ask for permission to keep it. I also offer to share the image with them and most of the times people are very happy to be getting a free picture!

I'll probably try to look for these moments mostly in cast members, characters, and perhaps some of my DIS friends who will be in the Parks with me!

Hi! Joining in! I came on over from emmysmommys recommendation :) Your photos are absolutely stunning! I look forward to reading more and I'm going to *attempt* looking through your other threads!

Tibetan Prayer Flags in Animal Kingdom :) I love looking at them with the light filtering through. It's actually on my list of pictures I need to get on my next trip. :)

Love it! :thumbsup2 And I'm adding it to my list!

I had one photo attempt during our last trip in the Maharajah Jungle Trek. Lighting wasn't ideal. I was hoping for some lighting as you described but wasn't able to get it during the late afternoon hours. Hopefully this time it will work out better. I think they the prayer flags are also on display in front of Expedition Everest?

Here's the one I took this past January:

I believe they are very heavily used all through out "Asia" but I do remember them being near Expedition Everest. :) I am thinking I didn't look up enough to appreciate them all!

Same for me! I'll be looking up and trying to spot all of them this time. :goodvibes

Now to talk about one of my favorite travel topics. The FOOD! I think I have most of the eating plans set but things could change IF I can score an ADR for BOG on evening of the 28th. I’ve been checking online for any miraculous openings several times a day for the past few weeks to no avail but will keep trying. Being such a food nerd, I will undoubtedly have researched the menus and reviews for each restaurant and have my 3 course meals all planned out by the time my trip is here. ;)

Saturday, October 26th

Lunch: Emeril’s Orlando - DW and I ate at this restaurant waaaay back when we were dating and during her first trip to Orlando and Disney. I can’t remember a single dish we ordered but I do remember enjoying the food quite a bit. Since I needed to find a place to eat that’s relatively close to the Orange County Convention Center, I thought this would be a good time to revisit it!

Dinner: Todd English bluezoo – I have no idea what to expect from this outing. What I do know is that the place is consistently well reviewed, has earned a Four Diamond Award from AAA (Am I the only one who thinks of Al Pacino’s character from Ocean’s 13 when the AAA Diamond Awards are mentioned?), and the place looks more Vegas chic than Disney. Probably why the "b" is in lowercase. ;) I have fairly high expectations for their food so hope they live up to the positive reviews. It will also give me an opportunity to set foot in the Dolphin resort for the first time.

Sunday, October 27th

Late Lunch/Early Dinner: Raglan Road – On my way back to WDW from the Convention Center, I am going to stop by DTD to try out Raglan Road for the very first time. I already know I’ll be ordering their bread pudding for dessert as I’ve heard great things about it from my DIS friends! A full three course meal is in order since I probably won’t have a full dinner this evening as I attend MNSSHP.

Monday, October 28th

Dinner: Jiko – Of all my ADRs, this is the place I’m looking the most forward to. I’ve heard a LOT of good things about this restaurant and it sounds to me that this is indeed one of the most unique places to eat at WDW. It will be a first time visit. I already know what I’ll be ordering for my entrée. The braised beef short rib! :thumbsup2 If I didn’t have to drive to MK afterwards, I would have loved to have paired my meal with a glass of wine but alas my alcohol tolerance is pathetically low. :rotfl:

Tuesday, October 29th

Breakfast: Kona Café – What’s better than watching the rope drop ceremony at MK? Being fully stuffed with Tonga Toast, wired on caffeine from Kona Coffee AND watching the rope drop ceremony, of course! :rotfl: Just like our previous outing there, I will be dousing the Tonga Toast in that strawberry syrup!

Dinner: Flying Fish Café – Another first visit for me. In fact, this will be the first time I’ll be setting foot in the Boardwalk area! Also heard a lot of good reviews about this restaurant. With all of the options available in and around Epcot and not having tried most of the restaurants, I really had a hard time picking just one for this evening. But, the idea of a good seafood meal was too difficult to pass. I’ll head on over to WS afterwards for Illuminations.

Wednesday, October 30th

Breakfast: Boma – To drown my sorrows in food about having to leave WDW, I will be hitting the buffet at Boma for breakfast on my way to the airport.

Sounds like some great meals! The only one I have tried on this list is Raglan Road, we went for a light dinner here in December. We didn't make it to the bread pudding because DH and I had a ADR at California Grill, however we loved the entertainment. I'm not sure how early it starts but it really added to the value of the meal (I got to watch my daughter get up on the outdoor stage and dance, which was so much fun!) We really want to try both Jiko and Flying Fish, and we are giving signatures a test run in Sept at Artist Point to see how it goes with two little ones.... Hopefully they are in our near future! We too will be drowning our sorrows at Boma on our departure day (sigh) This is a great line up though and can't wait to hear more!

I hear you about trying Signature restaurants with young children. So far, we've been avoiding sig restaurants (with the exception of Le Cellier) mostly because of DS who will be turning 4 in October and as most boys do has a difficult time staying put in one seat for more than 15 minutes. For our next January trip, I am planning on trying a couple of signature restaurants with the kids and I had picked Jiko and Flying Fish before I knew I was going to my conference in October. So this October trip will serve as a scouting mission to check out the restaurants ahead as well! :rotfl:

Funny that you mentioned your experiences with Raglan Road and California Grill on the same evening. I have been torn for my pre-MNSSHP between Raglan Road and California Grill. It sounds like CG will have reopened by then but I would like to be in MK by 5:30pm for the party and if I do CG, that won't be possible. Still very happy with trying out Raglan Road!

Well I will give a detailed experience of Artists Point with a 4 & 2 year old! Maybe a few hints and tips for getting them to stay still. I have two very active children who only stay still when they are sick.... We would do Flying Fish and/or Jiko in January if this trip goes well - I look forward to what you have to say about them from a parent with a child in constant motion ;)

I think Raglan Road is a great pre MNSSHP meal - we have dined at CG 2x and it's a longer meal, the pace is just a lot different than the standard Disney meal. I expect this to be true with many resort signature meals.... Also, it's a great "date night" if you travel with family who can watch your kiddos. That's what we ended up doing, had a 9:30 ADR, watched Wishes and then ate dinner :)

I'll definitely share my scouting report for both restaurants. I'm also interested to hear from you how the food is at Artists Point when you get back! :thumbsup2

Once we near our 180 day window for our January trip, I'm going to try to see if we can get either my brother's family or my parents to come with us. If they do, then will try to get a "date night" as long as DW doesn't get wiped out from my touring plans. :rotfl:

Love the meal choices. :thumbsup2 I also love being stuffed with Tonga toast waiting for rope drop!!

I've been dying to try Raglan Road so I can't wait to hear what you think.

Jumping on board with this exciting trip you are going to have I have admired your photos before

For me I like the things people don't pay attention to also (like what you said about the zebra in FOTLK) with that in mind:

The bloodhound that walks with the graveyard caretaker in MNSSHP parade

The flying sparks of the gravediggers shovels when they scrape them on the road in their dance routine

the area called Tinks Nook ? not even sure that's right keep hearing about it but not even sure where it is

I am looking forward very much to seeing your capture of the Headless Horseman thats a tough get ( I haven't seen very many good ones) and if you manage it in both parades my wish is you focus on the horses' face There is so much emotion in an animals face

and if you stumble on something not everyone sees or rather pays attention to well that would be great fun too Like this:

Thanks Dave for sharing this with us, Ruthie just a simple point & shoot gal loving life

Awesome dining choices!
Kona - my favorite place to eat breakfast in all of WDW!
Raglan Road's bread pudding - it's so good that it was a second meal for me!
Jiko braised beef short ribs - to die for!! :cloud9:
I'm looking forward to see what you think of Flying Fish and bluezoo.

I saw elsewhere on the boards about your epic summer travel plans. How awesome!! I'm sure you'll share a photo of too as well. :)

The downside of eating solo - I don't get to try a couple of "bites" of other people's dishes. :lmao: So this time, won't be able to get a taste of their macadamia pineapple pancakes.

I'm such a huge fan of Boma from our dinner experiences that I'm pretty sure I'll love their breakfast items!

:welcome: and thank you for joining! Great suggestions! I've added them to my list although it's going to take a good amount of determination from my part to enter Tink's Magical Nook solo since it's the meet and greet location for Tink and her friends! ;) And I love the picture you posted!

Absolutely! I ordered 5 additional memory cards for camera for this summer's adventure and I'm still not sure if that'll be enough! :rotfl: Will share as much as I can!

First, the hotel registrations for the conference opens up tomorrow!! Unfortunately, they didn't specify a time when it opens so I will be staying up until midnight tonight to see if it's available as soon as it becomes June 3rd! :lmao: If not, I'll be up at 6am trying again. Yup, Disney ADR system has taught me well. ;)

We just returned home after spending a night at Great Wolf Lodge (waterpark hotel) in Williamsburg. The kids really wanted to go swimming this weekend and I agreed with their idea since we were in the 90s this weekend. All we did the past 24 hours: swim, eat, swim, sleep, eat, swim! :lmao: They had a blast. I decided to put off this year's visit to Colonial Williamsburg until the fall when it gets much cooler. We tried touring Colonial Williamsburg in the summer heat last year and it was just brutal. I can't wait to see what the colonial town looks in fall colors.

Finally, as hinted by emmysmommy, our family has a BIG trip planned for the summer. We will be visiting Seoul and a couple of other locations in South Korea! This is mostly to visit my parents but rest assured that we'll be doing a ton of tourist activities and I will be documenting all of this on my camera. Planning has been very stressful especially since it will be a first time visit to Korea for DW, DD, DS, and DFIL. Yup, my parents invited DFIL as well. Also worried about how the rest of my family's stomachs will adapt to the food available. And to makes things a little more challenging, I decided to take a couple of side trips from Seoul including the ancient capital of a dynasty from 2000 years ago (Geoyungju) and a volcanic island at the southern tip of Korea (Jeju). All of that if we survive the 14 hour flight from DC to Seoul with the kids. :lmao: Anyway, I'm sure everyone will have a great time once it's said and done and I hope to have some great photos to share with you as part of mini-TR I will post here!

My weekend trip to Chicago at the end of summer seems like a piece of cake compared to this. :lmao:
