A One way trip to Neverland for Christmas

I am heartbroken to report that the announcment to our children (ages 7 and 9 ) that we were going to Disney for two weeks over Christmas resulted in sobs of disappointment. <br>
So, it is with great regret that we cancelled the trip we made plans for almost a year ago. <br> The kids want to enjoy the traditions of putting up the tree, baking gingerbread, baking cookies on Christmas Eve, and waking up to a room filled with presents. <br> Although we are sad ( the parents here...) we *will* be saving lots of money I guess.... <br>So for now, I will just watch our clock tick away, and thinking about the irony of trying to make ours the best Christmas on earth, realizing our kids feel that we already have them

Oh sorry to hear your won't be making the trip. Is it possible to go just after Christmas? So your kids could still the stuff they want? Just a thought. Have a blessed holiday either way.

Maybe you could shorten your trip and leave on the 26th? I kind of know how they feel. I don't think I would want to be at Disney on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. We have too many wonderful family traditions that I would miss.

My kids feel the same way!! I am disappiointed like you are. I had reservations with a great AP rate, great rooms, big plans!! They thought about it and decided they just want the traditional stay at home, stay in our pjs and play with gifts all day Christmas. I just cannot believe it.....

They let me know in enough time that I changed our reservation to Thanksgiving week, but there were NO deals to be found.

I am hopiing they will enjoy it so much at Thanksgiving that next year we can do Xmas!!

DS' best friend has g'parents who live just outside of Orlando. He will be visiting them for the holidays, and they will go to WDW on Xmas. DS heard about this and said, "Wow, missing Xmas will be a bummer! You can't have Christmas at a theme park."

Last year we were in Europe over Easter. My relatives showered the kid with more chocolate than he could possibly eat, but he was miffed that he hadn't gotten a visit from the Easter Bunny.
Kids are just creatures of habit, and holiday routines are pretty sacred to them.

Nope, they don't want to go until next year, they say... My hubby and I were so excited.. ;( That is ok, maybe some wonderful special will come out and we will pay half the price later... we can only hope, ha ha!

It sounds like you have some wonderfully special children who know what's truly important at the holidays. (don't get me wrong, I'd be disappointed too if I had it all planned... ) Despite the disappointment of your cancelled trip, you are blessed to have kids who really appreciate the holiday traditions you've already created together.

You'll have a wonderful trip next year!!

I know how you feel. I wanted to spend christmas at WDW but DS-6 said that he wanted to be home for xmas day, so i arranged a trip from 7-16th dec. instead. Now that it's all booked he tells me he'd like to stay for xmas after all Too late now!

My extended family all wanted to do a holiday getaway (not to Disney). It fell through. My mother made the comment that "no one was willing to compromise." I lost it. Here I was with two small kids, being willing to be in a different state for Christmas, missing Christmas morning, pulling the kids away from their other Grandma, and I wasn't compromising!

Christmas morning at home is special.

It will be awesome at home.. we are over it now, LOL! We were initially disappointed, but now that we are looking forward to tree trimming, hot chocolate, baking cookies, and wrapping presents, we are in full holiday spirit!!! We are fortunate to have such wonderful kids, they are amazing

It's a good thing you told them beforehand. We surprised our kids (ages 10 and 8) last year and were shocked to find that they were also mad that they would not be home at Christmas. We were in Florida by the time we admitted where we were going (good 6 hours from home). We had a good time at WDW until the end, when on Christmas Day they were ready to come home and see what Santa had brought (they are still believers). We left a day early. My sister had come in while we were gone and placed all the Santa thing under the tree and filled the stockings.

We are again debating whether to go or not. We have reservations for over Christmas again, but may not use them. This time they are aware of our possible plans.

Sorry for your loss of the trip. Hopefully you'll have future chances to do this at Christmas.

I'm sorry you feel dissapointed, but I too understand. I like to be home for the holidays as well. Last year we went at the beginning of December and although Disney does a great job of warm comfy holiday feelings, I still felt like I missed part of the Holiday season at home, that it was somehow shortened for me. This year I'm looking forward to lots of holiday baking , present wrapping, etc. To me, this is the perfect Christamas, especially with young children. (Ours are 1 & almost 5.)
