A note of DS11 I found - Help!

I am also of the schoo that anythig in the wash/dryer is mine as they obviously left it as a tiop from me. this includes all $$ from the pockets..

As MOM to a 12 year old son ... the term gay at the 7th grade level in our SD is not related to homosexual..but it appears to me that your child has an interest in the lady..and needs /wants your guidence.. For my DS12 i would speak with him about the note and discusss his feelings and desires..and boy /girl relations/friendships

I was reading over the note, and it sounded to me like he was making excused for why he couldn't make out with her. Kind of and I'd like to, but......and blamed you. Sounds like it was the girls idea.

Sounds like he was being quite responsible. Blaming Mom is a really great way for kids to get out of things.

Wouldn't worry about it or get mad, but do talk to him about it. But try reallly hard not to embarass him or get angry. This is not something to be angry about, it is a way for you to initiate an open relationship. If you get mad, he will just hide more stuff from you at this age.

This is the way I saw it too. It sounds like this girl may be pressuring him to do things he isn't ready for and he is using mom as the excuse. It sounds like he is sticking up for himself but still saving face (a good thing).

OMG! That is too funny. My 10 year old is always asking for mechanical pencils. And I just thought he wanted to be an engineer or something! ;) I didn't realize that yellow pencils had become "gay".

Come to think of it. Another word I've heard the boys use (which really ticks me off) is "retard". As in "Stop acting like a retard." They have a 14 year old niece who has Downs. I've explained how mean it is, and asked them how their cousin or aunt would feel if they said it in front of them. I think they finally got it, because I rarely hear them use the word.
Retard is challenging as well.

I work with special education students, and while most "regular" ed kids don't say that to special ed students, but its more "special ed" to "special ed" students .

I'd keep Fresh Tessa's response in mind when you talk to him. In my DD's class (fifth grade), it's the GIRLS who are pushing the boys about.....who do you like? , why don't you ask her out?, why don't you kiss, etc.? This is all coming from the girls badgering the boys with questions and encouragement !! Yikes! I've been giving my DD advice about ways she can gracefully deflect this - including blaming her fears on me.
