A Not so Scary October No Buy Thread

Oops, I forgot to update this everyday and now I can't remember what I bought... I *think* it went something like this...

No Buy Days : 5
Gas : 0$
Groceries : 50$
Eating out / snack : 12$
Baby money : 0$
Others : 3$

10/09 : 0$
10/10 : 0$
10/11 : 0$
10/12 : 0$

10/13 : 42$
10/14 : 0$
10/15 : 23$ (groceries + notebook)

I'd like to join in, even though I'm pretty late- I've started my Christmas shopping, too, which has a seperate budget from my monthly budget, so I'm spending extra money with that. Unfortunately, I've still had to spend way more than usual this month.

I'm only going to be looking at what I charge, since I rarely spend cash, and giftcards are one of my few chances to buy stuff I want rather than what I need.

10/01- $0
10/02- $0
10/03- $4.38 at Amazon (kindle book)
10/04- $31.75 at Disney.com (got my sister's Christmas present done :cool1:)
$21.99 at Amazon (sister's birthday present)
10/05- $271 at Amazon (had to buy a program for class :sad2:)
10/06- $164.75 to school (room fees)
10/07- $0
10/08- $0
10/09- $0
10/10- $0
10/11- $49.81 at Target (new winter boots since the old ones fell apart and my dad's birthday present)
$41.87 at American Eagle (new jeans)
$9.54 at Home Goods (microwavable plates for apartment, since I'm convinced my friends are going to die of plastic poisoning if we didn't get some)
$5.30 at Dollar tree (my splurge- Halloween Decorations )
10/12- $0
10/13- $21.80 at Kohl's (new belts, since mine fell apart)
$15 at Target (Medicine)
$6.52 at Chick-fil-A
10/14- $0
10/15- $8.99 at Amazon (friend's birthday present)
$53.56 at Forever21 (friend's birthday present, half my sister's christmas present, and part of a friend's Christmas present, and a sweatshirt for me)
10/16- $21.99 at Amazon (dad's Christmas present, done with him :cool1:)

The total so far makes me sick , but then I just have to realize that when I break it down into my seperate budgeting categories, it isn't as bad as it looks.

School stuff has no budget, since everything I buy for it is necessary. I've spent around $450 on school stuff so far this month :sad2:.

My usual monthly budget is $100 for personal splurges and birthday presents. I'm at $109.72 so far, which isn't too bad.

I budget around $250 for Christmas presents, and so far I'm doing pretty good with that. I've spent $80.74, and I have $30 set aside to pay for my mom's present since I had to special order it, and just have to pay when it comes it.

I usually have about $50 for wiggle room for clothes or new shoes that I may need, too. Unfortunately, I'm way over with that, at $97.67, but I needed everything I bought in that category.

Hopefully I won't have to spend much more this month.

I haven't been doing this lately but I'm jumping in now because I need to get a handle on $ - I've already budgeted out November and December but I need to be careful for the last bit of October, too:

14 days left in October! Our cupboards are bare so there's probably going to be a couple little trips to the supermarket this week. Then I'll be out of town Friday afternoon-Sunday afternoon (visiting friends, and we'll probably eat out too much, but I'll be careful) and then a trip to the grocery on Sunday. So next week I should be able to settle down and really rack up some no buy days!

Hello everyone! October has been a terrible month so far (two ER visits for me and multiple dr. visits for DS9, who has never been so sick). Today I'm running a fever over 100 -- when will this stop?!? Anyway, we've been eating out constantly because we're just too worn out to cook and I've done a great deal of shopping to console myself. Time to get things in hand!

PS Ronnmel, I seem to be way behind the times -- congratulations!

No goals for the next week -- just recording.

10/22: gas, post office (just realized I forgot stamps -- rats!)

So far this month, I have had 7 $0 Buy Days. Not great, but not terrible. My spending is a little ahead of where it should be for this point in the month. I'm finding it difficult to stay within budget the way prices keep rising. :sad2:

today no money :)

hubby and i are making a budget tonight so that should really help us save and watch what we spent. :) i have also been doing lots of extra work and making more money that i have just been saving for our Disney trip!

Thanks wlake! Sorry to hear you and your DS have been so sick, hope you both get better soon!

Where'sPiglet, I've noticed the prices increasing around here too. My favorite poutine went up by more than a dollar. It may be a small thing, but still... :sad2:

Where'sPiglet, I've noticed the prices increasing around here too. My favorite poutine went up by more than a dollar. It may be a small thing, but still... :sad2:

Block cheddar cheese (8oz) used to go on sale 2/$4. Last week it was on sale 2/$5. The 16oz (not on sale) block was $8.99. This was the store brand that is comparable to Kraft. You have GOT to be kidding me! Today at another store, I got 16oz cheddar cheese blocks (store brand) for $4.17. Now THAT is much more reasonable!

A gallon of milk is still running about $4.79 at most of my local stores. I think I paid $4.19 today at the store I was at. These are the prices for the cheapest brand available at the store.

The other thing I noticed was that the sale fliers for the grocery store were ridiculously small this week. They usually are several pages; this week it was a single folded page! :sad2

I spent a lot today. At least it was pretty much only stuff on my list. I went to Big Lots, Target, the Disney Store, and the grocery store.

Where's Piglet, I'm seeing the same sort of thing! The sales just aren't as good and regular prices are climbing! Of course, I just paid $4 for a dozen pasture raised, organic, cruelty free eggs, so I probably shouldn't complain too much! (In my egg defense, DS6 is going to a weekly farm program where he gets to help collect the aforementioned eggs, so he's very excited about eating them and they're a one time purchase! Not sure how they count as cruelty free when a batch of 5 and 6 year olds are allowed to run free among the chickens....)

10/22: gas, post office
10/23: BJ's ($260 -- ouch!), books for school --I got sucked in by Scholastic's $1 downloadable books and bought 12!

:lmao: So funny!!! But seriously, good for him for being involved in a farm program. :)

Bumping this thread up.

It has been cold and rainy here so I have not done much. Yesterday I did go shopping. I had a coupon for a free hair dye kit at Walgreen's plus I picked up some odds and ends. I should be good for the rest of the month.
