So, as some of you guys know, I've been trying to figure out what the heck I want to go back to college for, as I never finished. I graduated high school ten years ago this coming June (and wow, that sounds insane to say

) and still haven't finished college.
I started school with a major in English with a minor in secondary education (at least I think that's what it was, it may have been reversed). I changed to English with an emphasis in creative writing. Then I did my first CP and transferred schools. When I transferred, I changed my major to communications/mass media with an emphasis in journalism. I dropped out after a semester. I stayed out of school for four years, trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I bounced around between hospitality management, nursing, and culinary school. In January 2010, I enrolled in a local community college with the intention to go into nursing school. Thankfully, I'd become a CNA first, because I found that I
hated the field. Still, I was going to stick out the semester and then go about taking general education classes. That didn't happen, because my boss changed my work schedule (which was a 3 or 4 day a week, 12 hour shift job as a CNA) to the point that I couldn't attend classes. I apparently didn't go through the drop procedure properly, because now I'd be considered on academic probation
Anyway, I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about the fact that I don't want to be stuck in dead end jobs for forever. I don't want to go into culinary because even though I
adore baking, I don't want to chance my profession reducing my love of making things that people can satisfy their sweet cravings with. I definitely don't want to go into nursing, because I absolutely hated being a CNA. I'd like to go back into hospitality, but I can't afford to move and there's no public university in Chicago that offers a hospitality program. The only two schools that do are both overpriced private schools (one of which is a private Catholic college for women, which is so not happening).
So in a strange twist of fate, I find myself back at my starting point from, oh,
ten years ago and have decided to go back to school in August 2012 to be a teacher. I have to start off at the community college I was at due to the academic probation crap, but after I get an AA, I can transfer to the four-year school down the street from my house and major in their secondary education program. They have an excellent curriculum for teaching, the campus is convenient to my house, and the tuition is extremely reasonable for a four-year state school.
So... Basically, unless something happens to push me back to January 2013, I may be changing my dates to coincide with the winter break. I'm not sure if I'd be able to take a week off or not in the middle of the semester, but I might, as long as it's after midterms

Right now, I don't know what's going to happen, so I'm still planning on the trip. I need a Disney fix
