I went to see Roger Daltrey (of The Who) last night in concert. It was AMAZING - even though hes 65, he still rocks like hes 20 :love: Anyway, right before the concert started, I noticed that a woman about 7 rows infront of me had a new born baby :scared1:

I didn't wear earplugs, and by the end of the night, my ears were throbbing - this is The Who were talking about here - they are not known for the quiet ballads!!! I just can't believe someone would subject a new born to that kind of volume - it was an indoor venue.

Anyone else ever see this? Thoughts?

I wouldn't have brought my baby to a concert, but to each there own

She's a selfish idiot.

I'm a frequent concert-goer. I've probably been to 200+ shows easily. There are always these idiots who bring little babies to indoor shows. You just want to slap the he!! out of them.

I went to the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach two years ago to see a show. This place still allowed smoking inside. Within 30 minutes of opening, the place was thick with smoke, so much you couldn't see. I'm standing at the bar getting a drink, and I look over to see this couple with a very scared looking toddler and an infant, standing at the bar ordering their drinks. I stared at them with this look of disgust on my face. Then I asked the bartender why that was even allowed, and he said that it was because the show was an all -ages show. First of all, it shouldn't have been as it's in a smoky bar, but only idiots would bring their babies into a scene like that.

I wouldn't do it, personally. Not just the volume, but being that close tho that many people, think of the germs the baby was exposed to. Plus, people can get a little out of hand at a concert sometimes...what if she got pushed or even accidentally bumped??? Now MAYBE I would consider it ok if the baby was born deaf....the damage to the eardrums may not neccessarily matter them, but you could be ruling out help for the child in the future if a technological advancement came out that would allow the child to hear, but you damaged their ears at the concert, that wouldn't be good. And even if the baby IS deaf, you still have th exposure to germs, possibility of getting bumped hard, the flashing lights and even sound vibrations are likely to scare the poor kid. My 6yo wants to go to a concert, and I'm hesitant to take her, with earplugs.

I was at a general admission show in Philly and a woman nabbed a front row spot with her baby in a stroller. Where to start?

-Right on top of the speakers
-GA shows are by definition a pushing-and-shoving match to jockey for a spot close to the stage. I wouldn't want my little baby in that most-coveted spot with hundreds of people pushing to get there. Even my son (age 13, mind you) was hanging on the stroller to see better.
-WTH? Hogging probably 2 spots in front of the stage with a stroller??? She even had the chance to run to the bathroom and return to her saved spot, which is unheard of at a show like that. I have to get me one of those things (uuuh, on second thought....)

There are so many places you just don't go with newborns and infants. A lot of the younger people today just don't get that they can't do everything they would like to once they have the commitment of being a parent. There should have been a police officer present to charge the parent with endangerment.

On the one hand, I can see the mother wanting her child to experience The Who before they all retire or die. I can see the headline in 90 years or so: "Last survivor to see The Who in concert has passed away" (sorta like when the last passenger of the Titanic recently died, who had been two months old when the ship sank).

I agree, and this includes WDW. Once it was an ungodly hot day and we were entering Hollywood Studios. A couple had a tiny baby in a DARK green carriage with the top pulled down to shield the sun. All I could think was "that baby is going to cook in there"! :scared1: The baby obviously does not know where they are, the parents are being selfish, in my opinion.

I once saw a swaddled infant at an indoor Monster Truck Rally. Talk about loud, I have been to a lot of concerts, and this was twice as loud. Not constant, but at times. I just figured they were too cheap to get a babysitter. A rock concert also has the added danger of possibly out of control crowds.

ckay87, that's definitely a new one to me. A stroller at a concert? :sad2:

I'm a life-long concert goer and when my DDs were kids I would often take them to shows(they were 7-8 years old when we started going). Taking a newborn is simply a numbskull thing to do. It's just not a healthy environment for an infant:sad2:

Idiotic.

Don't people use BABYSITTERS anymore?

I get irked at newborns at movie theaters too. I think that if you are too young to know what's going on, you are too young to go.

Last week DH was listening to a radio talk show. They were giving out tickets to some hardcore band from back when (I can't remember exactly who). So this guy calls up and wins. The radio guys are talking to him and ask him if he is bringing his girlfriend, etc... He says no I am bringing my 4yo daughter, she loves the music. The radio guys asked him 4 times if he was really bringing his daughter, and he confirmed it. They apologized to the guy gave him a different gift package worth more, but wouldn't give him the tickets. They told him they wouldn't feel right knowing they were responsible for sending this little one to a very loud concert. I am sure they risked their job doing it, but DH has more respect for them now.

A newborn at a concert seems a bit strange but with the right precautions kids can go to a concert.

I dated a girl for a while that had two kids (2 and 4 at the time) and she would take them to concerts all the time. Now, it wasn't really loud rock, it was bands like DMB and Jack Johnson. She also only too them to outdoor venues where they could be well back from the stage and they wore ear protection. They were old enough to at least enjoy the music (to what extent maybe is debatable though).

A newborn without ear protection though sounds like a bit of a stretch but whatever.
