A newbie needs some more info

Say for instance I buy into HH, I can stay at the other WDW on site hotels 7 months out after the people who have it as home resort have booked, right? I noticed that Jan & Sept (when I tend to go) have the lowest point per stay rate. Do these fill up faster or will I have a good chance of landing these. i would like to rotate and try all of the on-site DVC properties, do one or more fill up in the off season before the others? Also explain banking points. I know this is alot to handle but I'm sure someone can help.

sept you won't have a problem - this is one of my favorite times to go - jan I don't think you will - the one problem could be MLKH

now if you want to go the first two weeks of December - this could be a problem - you could trade your points with someone who owns where you want to go. HH in the summer is very popular alot of DVC members want to go then. just make sure that the points match (or come close) in the trade situation.

You shouldn't have any problems in January. We have gone to HH twice and each time was over the kids' long MLKH weekend. Our home is VWL. We love HH in January! Good luck!

I would think you should be able to get into OKW for those times at the 7 month window. Be aware that many DVCers go to WDW at those times because of the lower point schedules for then. While WDW and the other resorts will look empty, DVC resorts might be at capacity.

Banking points is like putting your winter sweaters away until next winter, a year away. You take this year's points, or a portion of them, and have them banked--or put away--until next year. I banked the points on my March contract, so in March of 2004 I will have those points from 2003(100 pts) and all the points from 2004 (275 pts), for a total of 375 pts to use in 2004. The 100 pts that I banked MUST be used in 2004, or else I lose them at the end of the 2004 use year.
