A new t-shirt design for our October trip

We have a design for our own t-shirts but we are concerned. Will white print show up on a dark shirt? I read somewhere that it won't. Is there some trick to this? :confused3

You need to use transfers for dark fabric. I use this medium even with light fabric because it is white and opaque. Therefore, anything that is white in your design remains white when ironed on. You can get the dark fabric transfers on Ebay for quite a bit less than a local retailer.

I have those! Good. I guess I'm ready to go then. Thanks so much!

What a talent you have! Are you in graphic design? You should market yourself to Disney! You'd be awesome in their marketing department. I think I'm going to send you some ideas and have you design my family logo! We were thinking about making a shirt for me, my DSis and DMom that says "We're just a bunch of pansies" since we're all too chicken to ride the scary rides. We really wanted one for my DDad that says No whining! How funny that you thought of this idea as well! I guess I could always ask my BIL, he does have his own advertising agency!! :rotfl:

Well here's something you can use if you like. It's a variation of the Pop Century resort logo. Anyway, if you want to use it, let me know and I'll post a link where you can download a hi-res version.

That is awesome. I would be honored to wear a shirt with that logo. I'm going to post a link on a couple of other threads to see if we get a response. I wish I had half the talent you have.

Thanks again

okwoodsmith - you ROCK! your stuff is so classic - I LOVE it...

I would love to make a Dis shirt for myself to wear during my October trip --- Thanks for working on the design for us!

Wow! Those are great!!!!!!!!!

I wish I had software to create something even close to those!!! I use print shop and although things come out ok, they are nowhere near that cool!!!! Is there anything out there for home users that is reasonably priced to make stuff like the OP's?

Okay...if you want to download the DIS design, here's the easiest way. On the link below in this message that reads "Download", right-click on it and select "Save Target As". Save it to your hard drive and then load it in your favorite printing program. Enjoy!

I failed to mention that the hires version has a white background and a lime green border around the design. It is intentional so that it works best with iron on transfers. Be sure to use the Dark-Fabric type transfer and cut around the outer edge of the lime green border. When ironed on, this have more of an appearance of the transfer blending into the shirt itself.

SOME TIPS WE'VE DISCOVERED USING INKJET TRANSPARENCIES:

  • After applying the transfer to the shirt, turn it inside out before washing.
  • The dark-fabric transfers come with parchment paper for applying the transfer to the shirt. Keep this paper because it can be used to "freshen" the shirt after washing. Simply heat the iron again and put the parchemnt paper over the design and heat it with the iron for a short period of time. This tends to heal cracks and tacks down any areas that may have separated from the shirt.
  • YMMV on this one, but we have found that using liquid fabric softener in washing your t-shirts can destroy the transfer.
  • YMMV on this as well. Depending on the printer you are using and probably the brand of paper as well, we have discovered that the colors in the design can sometimes run when the shirt is worn and the wearer begins sweating. It's a good idea to wash the shirt before applying the transfer, and then washing it again after applying the transfer. The washing process appears to set the ink and prevent it from running. Again, however, don't use fabric softener and consider running your machine on a gentle cycle.

Anyway, I've gained so much info from folks on this board and wanted to pass on what I've learned about t-shirts.

Blessings,
JimmieD

Good question I'd like to know too.

okwoodsmith, great design. I'd be honored to wear it.

We'll see you in October- but you may see us first wearing your October design! Then again there's only 4 of us- and you will be in a big orange/lime green group- so we may see you first! I really do love your work, Jimmie D!

Not only is the no whining idea great- but the design is perfect!

JimmieD~what great designs! Did I read on the other thread that you use PhotoShop? I just got that program and am *trying* to figure out how to use it to make a tshirt design. It'll be a long time before I do anything as cool as your designs! :flower:

What wonderful T-shirt designs! You are quite talented! :sunny:

Thanks for sharing! :goodvibes

We've been discussing T-Shirts for our group, but no one here has the know-how on how to go about it. If the Oct. t-shirt idea takes off, count us in :cool1:
