On the 12th of March a new baby killer whale was born. :cake: We went to seaworld when the baby was 2 days old and it was so cute. Seaworld had cancelled the Shamu show because the baby was born at the stadium and they had to wait a couple of days before they could move it. Instead they had a baby presentation where you could come and look at the baby and ask questions about baby whales. They also showed a video of the birth which was amazing. :yay:
The baby is now being watched 24/7 by trainers to make sure it's ok. They have to do that for at least 90 days. They still don't know the sex cause they can't get close to it. The baby can't stop or turn yet so the mum have to be next to it all the time. Mum and baby are doing fine.;)
It's so exciting :woohoo: Have anyone else seen it? How is it now?

I haven't seen the calf but I have friends that live close to the park. The baby is doing fine and I'm told that it has started to swim into the back pools with it's mom, Taima. I've also been told the Sea World staff think it might be a girl, but won't be sure for another few weeks or so. :)

We saw the baby when it was less than 24 hours old!!!

We were at Sea World on Tuesday, March 13. We were a little disappointed that we didn't get to see "Believe", the killer whale show, but seeing the little baby nurse with mom made up for it.

Oh, and congrats on your first post, Skyla_Bell!!! :thumbsup2

Here's a couple pics of the mom and her new baby from yesterday.

Oh wow! Those pics are amazing!!

It's been such a long time since I last went to Seaworld, by the time I go back next April it'll be 10 years! And 10 years ago there was a baby whale born when we went, I wonder if the Mum was that baby?! How amazing!!

What an adorable baby! I am going to have to make time to take my daughter over there to see it. She is crazy about baby animals and would just love to see it! Thanks for posting the pictures!:thumbsup2

We were there on March 20, and they showed the film of the birth and then did the Believe show as well. The show was not on the schedule, and they did say that they may have to interrupt the show if mama and baby had other ideas, but as far as I could tell they did the show in its entirety.

Thanks for the updates everyone. And those pics are great, my pics isn't that good but i might put them on anyway. The baby is a lot bigger now then when I saw it. Do they know the sex yet?

Deb in IA: I saw the Believe show a couple days before the baby was born and i don't think it was that great. The baby presentation was a lot better. :-)

Oh those pictures are lovely, how nice to do a baby presentation. When we were there in 2004 a baby dolphin was born, we couldnt get to close but from what we could see it was so tiny and a lovely experience

We just got home yesterday from SW and DC. The baby swam in the show, it was so cute. Whenever mom was trying to perform the baby was always underfoot, or should I say underfin? She would just nudge it over and continue on as if nothing happened. It made the show even better. There was a trainer trying to keep the baby entertained, but he/she was just more interested in mom!

Thanks for the info.... It's fun to hear about it when you seen it as a newborn. I feel like I kind of know it!!!!:)

I can't wait to see the new little one. The first and only time that I went to Sea World back in 1986, I was lucky enough to have seen Kalina aka Baby Shamu. I just did a search on her and found out that other than being the first successful captive born orca, she is also the first one to become a grandmother! I would love to know which one she is. I hear that she performs at Sea World Orlando and that her mom is there too. I would love to know what show that she is in so that I could see her all grown up. Maggie

the baby is a girl but they didn't name it yet...here is the pic i took sorry its really bad quailty i took it with my camera phone
the newest baby is the smallest one at the top.... those whale are Taima, the new baby, Katina, and Nalani.

That is a beautiful name, but I guess that it is wishful thinking... she was everything but calm when we were there in June! She had tons of energy and was busy trying to steal the show! She is precious!

She was in the Shamu Rocks show this past Wed. night and in the Believe show on Thursday. She is still kinda following mom around and the trainers keep her occupied while mom does her thing. It was very cute!!!
