A need a fun family board game suggestions!

I like a lot of the games posted. These aren't technically "board" games, but fun just the same, Boggle, Jenga, Extreme Jenga.

This time of year, "Christmasopoly" is a lot of fun! We also have a Christmas card game, but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.. "Christmas Trivia" is fun too! :santa:

Here's an old thread with a bunch of favorite board games listed.

We'll be trying some new games soon. For Christmas, I found Splash Mountain Sorry for dd on Amazon. We're also getting Catch Phrase as a family gift. Dh and I never played it, but the kids have and they liked it. I was able to get Scrabble Slam (card game) for free with the Catch Phrase purchase on Amazon, so that'll be a stocking stuffer for dh. I'm not sure if that promotion is still valid.

We laugh HYSTERICALLY when we play Balderdash. We also enjoy Apples to Apples and Baffle Gab. But Balderdash always gets the most laughs.

I always have a hard time explaining it (although it's super fun!!) so here's what wiki has to say:

Each player is dealt seven "red apple" cards; on each is printed a noun or noun phrase (such as "Madonna", "Canada", "The Spanish Inquisition", "Michael Jackson", etc.).

The judge (a chosen player) draws a "green apple" card on which is printed an adjective ("scary", "frightening", "patriotic", etc.), and places it face-up on the table for everybody to see. Then each player (except the judge) chooses a card that they think is the best match for the green apple card, and places it face-down. The judge shuffles the red apple cards, reads them (often aloud), and decides which noun is the best match for the adjective. This decision is subjective; the official rules encourage the judge to pick the match that is "most creative, humorous or interesting". Some might think it humorous if "mud" is played for delicious, and might give that player the point.

The player who submitted the chosen red apple card wins the round, and takes the green apple card to signify the win. All players then draw red cards until they have seven again, and the role of "judge" may pass to another person (generally going to the next player in line, though some rules have the round's winner becoming "judge"). Some editions of the game suggest discounting the last red-apple card played, to encourage players to place their cards down more quickly.

Each player is allowed a one-time only "switch-a-roo", which allows the player to discard their entire hand of red cards for a new set of red cards.

The winner is the first player to accumulate a pre-designated number of green apple cards; the more players, the lower the total.

The best part of Apples to Apples is trying to persuade the judge that your card is the best match. The explanations, especially for out-of-the-blue matches, are hilarious.

Me and my roommates used to play scatagories when were pre-gaming in college. It would undoubtably turn not-dis friendly and hilarious. All in good fun though.

A new one we added this year is You've Been Sentenced" It is a great game that we have all enjoyed.

And of course Apples to Apples if you don't already have it., That is fantastic for all ages.

I've always liked Life. Or one of the Scene It DVD games.

Parchesi is our all time favorite. We also like Othello and Backgammon and most of the others that have already been mentioned. Except for Sorry. My kids always end up fighting when we play that game. There's a reason why it's called that. :upsidedow

For games that we can play a round or two quickly our family favourites are:
Whoonu
Scategories

For times when we can make an evening of playing:
Cranium
Mexican Train Dominoes
Outburst
Taboo
Banagrams

What's bananagrams like?

It is similar to Scrabble--but with a few silly twists AND each person works on his or her own little crossword of words, which you can change around as often as you like. We really like it and find the not very good spellers do about as well making short words as the good spellers do making longer words. It is not technically a board game (no board) and all fits in a little banana shaped pouch which is easy to take along somewhere. Here is a link to the rules online:

We love games and have a list a mile long. Here are a few of our favorites.

Scattegories
Outburst
Taboo
Apples to Apples
Pictionary
Balderdash
Malarky (this one is really so fun if you have the right group)
Cranium

Our favorite charades game ever:
Guesstures

Trouble
Sorry
Payday
Life
Clue
Monopoly
Battleship
Boggle
Connect Four

We like Sequence, aggravation, imaginif, uno, phase 10, catch phrase is great for adults, rummikub.

UNO also has an UNO Spin game out also. It doesn't require batteries and is fun to play. It has a different twist to the game.

We play Sequence. It has a board but is more of a card game. Most young people can do well with it.

We also like Wizard and Flinch, more card games. Oh, and Scatergories. Lots of fun but don't know how your son would like that one.
