A mirror without streaks

Old home: plain water. Yep. We bought some water filtration system like total suckers. Not that washing windows was the reason--but because the water had lots taken out of it--you could use plain water.

New home--don't have that and don't plan to buy it. So the other day, I used dish soap and water because I had no window cleaner.

No streaks either way. Not sure if that is a fluke. But see if you can use something other than "glass cleaner"

also--using newsprint with the glass cleaner helps. And I rub hard. Streaks will get left if I am not Firm with whatever I am wiping off.
What I was going to say, plain old hot water and a soft rag or towel. Cleaners build up on the mirror compounding the streaking. I've never noticed a difference in the water I use, I just fling it up there when I'm cleaning the sink then wipe it down.

Sprayway glass cleaner :thumbsup2

Tried vinegar and newsprint, Windex, etc. Black stuff on hands, streaks, etc. But possible to get it done with effort.

However, Sprayway is terrific and extremely low effort. I use one spray squirt per 1 sq foot and half a paper towel does the rest.

They are available in HD and possibly Lowe's but I also found a 3-pack in Costco once.

Could be your brand of paper towels.
Some are really full of stuff that leaves residue...
What towels are you using to clean?

I also have always hated Windex.
Like they are supposed to be the 'big name' in window cleaner..
I use Glass Plus, NO yucky ammonia!!!

if you try newspaper, whatever you do , don't use the comics...

Try cheap mens shaving cream too. It also works great for keeping the fog off when you're showering.:thumbsup2

I've never had a problem with streaks just using Windex and paper towel.
However, I do suggest that you use the 'cheap' paper towels for cleaning glass. Don't use the expensive ones.....they are too fluffy and leave fibres on the glass/mirror.
I purchase good paper towels for my kitchen and purchase cheap paper towels for cleaning.

Hot water and a wet rag first, then once the dirt is off, I "buff" it with a dry rag. Easy and never any streaks.

white vinager and a wash cloth (I use wash cloths instead of paper towels for everything, cheaper and it saves a few trees) get my mirrors and glass streak free better than anything I've ever tried.

I've recently started using a product called Invisible Glass. It's in a spray can and comes out almost like a foam. It's pretty streak free.

This is what I use too, I got a free sample of it a few months ago and liked it so much that's what I buy now.

As an avid auto detailer to my cars, I love crystal clear and clean glass on a car.

I can tell you, Windex is the absolute worst to use to clean glass.

How much is an approximate quart size (less than that even, aren't they?) bottle of Windex these days? $3? $4? Think what is in your car that is used to rid the windshield of extremely heavy grime? That's right, windshield washer fluid. I have tried multitudes of products for cleaning the car windows, and some of them do indeed work well, but windshield washer fluid is a whole $0.99 for a gallon of the stuff. You can have 3 or 4 gallons of the stuff for the same cost of that little bottle of Windex.

Also technique has a lot to do with it. This really applies to car windows because I would assume they get far dirtier than any house window, but I do imagine house windows can be similar. The first pass of cleaning a window, you are picking up a lot of dirt, but also are smearing a lot of dirt and grime around. My wife does that all the time, sprays the Windex, then wipes with a paper towel and that's it. Then she wonders why the window is all streaky. She also uses the same paper towel for all windows.

I spray the windows of the car once fairly heavily and wipe them with a paper towel (always Bounty, no other paper towel will do for me.) Then I dry that with a clean dry paper towel. Folding that 2nd towel over, I again spray a 2nd time and wipe with that 2nd towel and dry that with a 3rd. If it needs more, then it is repeated, but this usually has the windows completely clean and streak free.

Moving on to the next window, the 2nd paper towel used on the first can now be used for the first wiping and the 3rd towel used for the first drying, etc. By the time I am done cleaning the windows of the car, I have a whole pile of paper towels, yet the house has twice as many windows each with twice the surface area of a car window, yet my wife uses 1 paper towel to do them all.

And my wife still insists on paying $3-4 for that little bottle of Windex instead of $0.99 for a whole gallon of windshield washer fluid that works a thousand times better than Windex :confused3

I've cleaned houses for a living for over 3 years now. There is no such thing as a mirror without streaks or a haze! Me and my 2 team mates have tried everything and it seems nothing works. Regular water seems to be the best, though not perfect way, to clean a mirror. Then buffing it out with a dry clothe. Windex does seem to make it worse! The most horrible mirrors are the ones with hairstray all over them. That stuff is nearly impossible to get off. I hate that!

Thanks for all the advice too! We just moved into a new home and the mirrors are upsetting me!

I've tried it all! except the windshield washer fluid! I'm trying that one!

Newspaper never worked for me. Left little fibers on the glass.

I had this problem also. Mix equal parts white vinager, rubbing alcohol, warm water (to help mix) and a drop of dish soap. Spray on and wipe until dry with a cloth towel. I use the hand towel by the sink since it is going in the wash anyway. No streaks ever. Give it a try.

This mix also works on my floors, counter tops and sinks.

It stinks until it dries but the rubbing alcohol makes it dry quicker.

That is my dream. It usually looks worse after I clean it.

What do you use and does it leave streaks? I swear, Windex is full of it. No streaks my butt!

Windex streaks.

I use a dampened (water only) microfiber cleaning cloth that I bought on QVC years ago. I love them and they really work.

They still sell them I see.
