A mall near you...

Burnsville Center is the closest, but the next closest is the Mall of America, and that is my prefernce!;)

Closest is Liberty Tree Mall (my youngest loves it because it has a merry-go-round) then North Shore Mall-mostly a clothes mall.

What's a mall? We have one - Leigh Mall - but it's more than half empty. Next closest is an hour away - Barnes Crossing Mall.

I read an article recently (and I can't remember where), that said malls were being phased out.

The article said they were heading toward building more open style plazas with courtyards.

The mall that used to be the absolute closest to us closed down a few years back. It was called the Summit Park Mall.

We kind of have that in Columbus...the closest "mall" to me is Easton, which is really a huge shopping and entertainment area. It has a small indoor mall in the middle with a movie theatre and some stores, but most of the stores and restaurants are outside.

Lakeview Square Mall in Battle Creek or in the other direction....Lansing Mall in Lansing.:D

That's what Eastland Mall used to be in a (very near) Detroit suburb & then people started migrating towards the newer malls which were all enclosed (due to the weather factor) & then they re-constructed the "open air mall with courtyards" into a fully enclosed building ~ the mall. Now the new thing is the open air malls? I'm not really for them. If it's summertime, I'd rather be indoors & cooled by the A/C & if it's winter time, I'd rather have it comfortably warm with no issues of shleping over ice/snow/wet conditions.

From reading the article I mentioned, I was under the impression that the switch to open plazas was in light of so many mall closings due to lack of business. The hope seems to be that people will be drawn in if they can see the storefront displays from the street.

But yeah, I hear ya...I like comfort from the elements too!

I bet the mall owners wouldn't mind saving on their electric bills though.

There are two malls about 30 minutes from my house. One is the Shore Mall (Boscov's and Value City are the two major stores there), and the other is the Hamilton Mall (Macy's, Sears and JCPenney's). I much prefer the Hamilton Mall because it has more stores, and has a much more 'modern' feel, if that makes any sense. Plus, I'm somewhat biased, since I worked in the Hamilton Mall at the TDS there for 2 years. :)

Hi Debi, the Hamilton Mall is my favorite as well! I'm actually closer to the Cumberland Mall but they don't have as many stores so we usually hoof it all the way up to the Hamilton Mall about 40 minutes for us. I wish Hamilton Mall would finish with the construction though, and definitely keep those comfortable chairs they had outside the JCP. :D

Christiana Mall is 30 minutes away in tax free shopping Delaware.

White Marsh Mall is an hour away in Maryland.

Chesterfield Towne Center is about a mile from our house. Then we have a new mall - Stony Point - opening next month. Then there is Regency Square and The Shops at Willow Lawn 10 miles away. Then Virginia Center Commons (ick) 15 miles away and the new Short Pump Towne Center opening in a few weeks 15 miles away. TOO MANY MALLS!!

I'm way too close to Oxford Valley Mall (right next to Sesame Place) and even closer to Neshaminy Mall.

Mean what is it that you don't like about VCC?

Closest is Short Pump Town Center, then Regency Square, then Virginia Center Commons, then Stony Point Fashion Park, finally Chesterfield Town Center.

Woodbridge Center, Menlo Park Mall, Brunswick Square Mall

I live near Evil Princess. our "home" mall is Walt Whitman Mall. it's across the street from Whitman's birthplace, by the way.

Mainplace and South Coast Plaza are the two closest malls. Fashion Island is just a bit further away. :)

Our local mall is pretty stinky so we go to Towson Town Center.
