A Magical Place at a Magical Time of Year

Oh we will work it all out, I'm sure. I am now debating about maybe assigning one park to each day (to play along) and then when we get there making some subtle suggestions to hop. Haha I'm a mess.

I don't think you're a mess! That's a perfectly brilliant idea, in my opinion. You can have a day planned where to "start", then go from there!:goodvibes

Also, airfare has been going up week after week! We were planning a trip to the Florida Keys between Christmas and New Years with my DH's family, but the airfare is out of CONTROL!

Congrats on the new part of your surprise. That should make your trip soooo much nicer. Personally, I have never experienced it. Maybe someday. :rolleyes1

Not sure how I missed yesterdays trivia. I knew about the different lands. In fact, look at the AK logo and you can see the dragon. I would have like to have the dragon land... my youngest ds has always been into them.

As for today.. my guess would be c. I guess that only because I would think it easier to build around the lake than to expand elsewhere. I am probably wrong though.
I wish they would have completed the mythical animal section. And wouldn't it have been cool to incorporate Harry Potter into it there, instead of over at Universal?

I'll have your trivia answers soon. I know GF was built late - like in the late 80s, so that's probably not it. :confused3

Haha well thanks for the support in my not being a mess! Airfare makes me mad all around (not just Disney). And I read an article yesterday that the government dropped some taxes on airfare because congress couldn't get their act together last week, saving about $25-$35 per ticket, but the airlines decided (collectively) to just jack up their prices by that amount "so the consumer ends up paying the same end amount". In what world does that make sense???

145 days until Disney. What takes place every day at 5:00pm in Town Square at the Magic Kingdom?
A A parade
B Mickey and Minnie come out to sign autographs
C A flag ceremony
D The barbershop quartet comes out.

I somehow forgot to post yesterday's question. So you get two trivia questions today!
Where can you see the "back side of water?"
A Splash Mountain
B Jungle Cruise
C Imagination! pavilion
D Canada pavilion

Saturday's answer:

What was the third hotel to open in Walt Disney World after Disney's Contemporary and Polynesian Resorts?
A Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground
B Disney's Golf Resort Hotel
C Disney's Grand Floridian Beach Resort
D Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort
Answer: A. In November, 1971, just one month after the Magic Kingdom opened, Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground opened near Disney's Contemporary Resort. Disney's Golf Resort Hotel opened in 1973. The Grand Floridian Beach Resort (later renamed Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa) opened in 1988, while Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge opened in 2001. (Strange, because the question doesn't mention AKL.)

Tuesday, July 26 was the date the packages for Candlelight Processional became available. If you don't already know, the package provides lunch or dinner at a fixed price, guaranteed seating at a Candlelight Processional show, and some sort of priority viewing area for Illuminations. We had selected Biergarten for our restaurant. I am excited for the Oom-Pah band and Christmas music and decorations.

I guess the IPO had our request on file because I got an email that morning that they had us all booked. Wow! That's awesome how I don't have to even think about getting up early and waiting on hold and crossing my fingers they still have the restaurant and time that I want.

So, one more thing checked off the list. Yippee!!

Here is today's trivia question:
140 days until Disney. What is a Cast Member referring to if he reports a "Code 101?"
A A lost child
B A broken down attraction
C A VIP in line
D A guest needing medical attention

And a bonus question today:
In what pavilion might you be able able to meet Pinocchio?
A Germany
B United States
C Italy
D United Kingdom

And answers to the previous questions:
What takes place every day at 5:00pm in Town Square at the Magic Kingdom?
A A parade
B Mickey and Minnie come out to sign autographs
C A flag ceremony
D The barbershop quartet comes out.
Answer: C. There is a flag ceremony daily in Town Square. The American flag is taken down for the evening, while the band plays and white doves are released. Veterans can inquire about participating in the ceremony.

Where can you see the "back side of water?"
A Splash Mountain
B Jungle Cruise
C Imagination! pavilion
D Canada pavilion
Answer: B Jungle Cruise. Yeah, the jokes on Jungle Cruise may seem a little corny, but you can't help but chuckle when your Guide takes you underneath an overhang and behind a waterfall and showes you the "back side of water." It's definitely the "punniest" ride in the Magic Kingdom! (Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

I am not sure how I seem to miss your trivia questions...

But first.. :woohoo: on not only getting the CP package, but not having to hassle with it. That is awesome.

Back to today's trivia...

I have no idea what a 101 is...

As for what pavilion one might find Pinocchio... I would get Germany.:goodvibes

Oh c'mon Ann - take a guess on Code 101.

Ok... so when you say it like that it makes me think medical attention (given what I have going on) but... I would think that would be 911 :rotfl:

You're probably right, Ann. I bet it's 911. Actually, when we were there in 2008, we were on our Keys to the Kingdom tour and a guest collapsed right in front of us. We were impressed with how quickly and quietly our guide was able to summon assistance. It was pretty amazing. And the guest ended up being ok. Thank goodness.

Haley (my niece) and her mom (my sister Joann) have created an Ariel costume for Haley. I don't remember if I posted these pics before.

The top:

The tail:

And just this week, Haley has transformed her hair color to "fire truck red" (as she calls it). Here's a pic:

I haven't seen any pics of her in costume, but the hair looks great. Ahhh to be 16 again and be able to play with hair color and look great in costumes...

Today's trivia:
139 days until Disney. Which restaurant on Main Street, U.S.A. has the same name as a restaurant in one of Disney's animated features?
A The Crystal Palace
B Casey's Corner
C Tony's Town Square Restaurant
D The Plaza Diner

Yesterday's questions:
What is a Cast Member referring to if he reports a "Code 101?"
A A lost child
B A broken down attraction
C A VIP in line
D A guest needing medical attention
Answer: B. a broken down attraction. There are two codes that Cast Members use to describe the status of an attraction: "Code 101" means that the attraction has broken down, and "Code 102" means that the attraction is back up and running.
(Sorry, I couldn't find a picture of this one. Imagine that!)

In what pavilion might you be able able to meet Pinocchio?
A Germany
B United States
C Italy
D United Kingdom
Answer: C. You may see Pinocchio in Italy with Gepetto. The two may even break into song (in Italian, of course). That makes sense because Le Avventure di Pinocchio ("The Adventures of Pinocchio") was written by Tuscan author Carlo Lorenzini (under the pen name "C. Collodi"), and was first published in Rome in 1881. Pinocchio means "pine eyes" in Italian.

138 days until Disney. What is special about the flag on top of The American Adventure pavilion in Epcot?
A It once flew over the White House in Washington, D.C.
B It has only 15 stars
C It was recovered from the World Trade Center site
D It was hand stitched by a direct descendant of Betsey Ross

The ticker says 4 1/2 months now! That feels awesome!

Yesterday's trivia:

A The Crystal Palace
B Casey's Corner
C Tony's Town Square Restaurant
D The Plaza Diner
Answer: C. You may remember the restaurant from the famous "spaghetti scene" in Lady and the Tramp. In the actual Magic Kingdom restaurant, guests can enjoy great pasta and seafood specialties. And be sure to look for the paw prints in the cement right outside the entrance!

That's a beautiful shade of red. Trust me, I deal with hair color every day. Gorgeous girl as it is!

I will guess A...

Hailey is so stunning... oh to be able to be a young girl again and look like Ariel. I guess it isn't just a young girls dream. :rotfl:

Jumping onto your report! Seems like your daughter and niece are going to have a great time going on the trip together!

We're going down same dates as y'all but we're staying at Pop!

Yeah, I love my niece and think she's sooo cute! We should have reached out to you to help with the color, since you're right around the corner! :thumbsup2

I know. Haley makes me want to have a dream of working at Disney too. Maybe that's where I'll retire. Your answer is not correct, but it's a good thing I'm not keeping score! :rotfl:

:welcome: Glad to have another reader. I post trivia questions daily on Haley's Facebook page as our form of a "countdown calendar", so I cross-post them here as a little game to keep things interesting. I travel a lot, so I miss a day here or there. Katie was reminding me the other day that Haley will be the same age on this trip that Katie was the last time we went. They are going to love it!

Maybe we will run into each other at the parks or resorts. I cannot wait until December!!

I think I'm going to follow Ann's lead and make this a contest, giving points for correct answers. I will give every correct answer before I post the next day's trivia question a point. I will give 2 bonus points for anyone who can post a photo related to the answer. I'll keep track of points and send a prize to the winner sometime before, or right after, our trip in December.

I think it's fair to start the tabulating today, since some may have posted guesses in the past if they had known it was a competition.

So...for today:

137 days until Disney. Can you name the disc jockey who is broadcasting "live" from the concert at the beginning of the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith ride?
A Big Joe Henry
B Uncle Joe Benson
C Uncle Floyd
D Casey Kasem

And yesterday's question:
138 days until Disney. What is special about the flag on top of The American Adventure pavilion in Epcot?
A It once flew over the White House in Washington, D.C.
B It has only 15 stars
C It was recovered from the World Trade Center site
D It was hand stitched by a direct descendant of Betsey Ross
Answer: B. The flag which adorns the top of The American Adventure pavilion has only 15 stars on it. That's because when the U.S. was first formed, the flag had the same number of stars and stripes as there were states in the nation. As more states joined the union, it became impossible to add a stripe for each one. That is why the current U.S. flag has 50 stars, one for each state, but just 13 stripes representing the original 13 colonies.
