I remember how worried everyone was about y2k . . .about computers crashing . . .they even came out with these stupid stuffed animal y2k bugs, and yes, I did have one . . .:lmao:

I also remember watching the 6pm news when they cover the entire world celebrating their new year's festivities . . .and I remember thinking . . ok, well Australia is still standing . . so is England . . .guess we'll be ok too . . .:lmao:

Anyone else??

I remember it well. My DH had to work because all the computers were going to "crash". So I had to spend the night with my (at the time) 84-year old MIL! Needless to say, it was a quiet night. My MIL is now 93 years old and doing well but she is staying home tonight. And I'm DISing, so still a quiet New Year's Eve for me.:)

I remember it all too well. I remember I was 9 and my mom let me and my sis (7 at the time) stay up till midnight. Then we called our cousins after 12am, who were also allowed to stay up.

My grandparents ummmm..... over-reacted. I think they're still eating the canned goods they bought. :rotfl: And using the camp stove, the lanterns, blankets, flashlights, bottled water.... yeahhhhh.

I never bought into the whole y2k gloom and doom.

what I do remember is all the people trying to return all the stuff they bought to stock up on stuff. THe service desk was very, very busy the next few weeks.

We were talking about that at work yesterday. I was a nurse at a facility with a vent unit. We had to have enough nurses, and respiratory to be able to bag the 15 vent patients if necessary.

Of course-No massive power outages, so no issues there. However we did have a patient code at 11:58. I remember doing chest compressions, waiting for 911, which took extra long, and seeing the ball drop on TV out of the corner of my eye.

Not a night I like remembering. I also got screwed by the other nurse manager, who was spending the holiday in Mexico:mad: She left without making sure her new month paperwork/charts were ready. Anyone in SNF nursing knows what I am talking about--I spent the entire night at work:mad:

Yeah, I remember it. Me & my DD spend the night with my friend & her boyfriend because I was scared "something" bad was gonna happen. It's something we can look back on & get a good laugh out of!

I remember it. It was the last time my whole family was together for New Years. My grandma died the following July. We had gone out to eat and went back to my grandparents and after the ball dropped my uncle went down and turned all the power out. I was only 11 and I screamed and cried. :lmao:

Now I'm worried about the December 21, 2012 end of the world Mayan prophecy.

I changed my career in 1997 due to the Y2K issue - in computer programming. I ended up becoming a software quality assurance analyst.

The reason why Y2K resulted in nothing happening, was due to a lot of dedicated computer programmers and testers fixing the software prior to it occurring!!!!

Watching the TV on New Year's Eve that night was pretty special. We really paid attention to how the rest of the world celebrated.

Exactly. I'm a computer programmer, and spent the last several YEARS before Y2K doing not much other than fix Y2K bugs. If they hadn't been fixed there WOULD have been problems. My dad did the same thing. In fact, he traveled a lot those last few years fixing Y2K bugs for companies all over the country and even in Mexico.

I was at a friend's party. We counted down to midnight and the power went out. We were like "wow, it's true." Turns out the host just cut off all the power as a joke. hehe.

I went to a NYE party that night and brought little gift baskets for everyone with a few cans of food, a flashlight, and a bottle of champagne in them.

They were a big hit.

I worked in Finance at a Disney Hotel at the time. My dept (who does not do payroll) had to help make manual backup copies of timecards.
Also, we rented a ton of generators and floodlights, and every room had a flashlight waiting for them to be handed out. And all those thousands of flashlight had to manually be filled with batteries, too. Watched some of the festivities on TV at work, but we got to leave at 6 pm. The number of hours spent in meetings for months just preparing for the 'in case' was incredible.

Oh yes I remember- we went to the Poconos for the weekend- We had a silly string fight in the woods. That's about all I remember. But it was fun and we weren't too scared- not hording food or anything. :rotfl2:

I just remember being exhausted that day. I was supposed to fly home on the 30th but thanks to a major fog delay, it was nearly 6am on New Year's Eve when I finally got home. For over half my life up until that point I was looking forward to being able to "party like it's 1999" IN 1999. As it was, I was tired from being up all night the night before, pregnant, and had morning sickness to boot. I ended up spending most of the day on the couch dozing on and off and watching coverage if it turning midnight around the world. I did have some sparkling cider at midnight though.

Hahaha I was 17 and out with my new boyfriend and his friends. We blasted The Year 2000 by Silverchair and acted like morons. Yep. remember it well

Oh yes, I was 2 months pregnant with dd and had horrible morning sickness and severe bronchitis and strep which couldn't be treated b/c I was in my 1st trimester. My New Years dinner was crackers & Sprite, my usual, and me and poor dh laid in bed, since I was too sick to get out of it and we watched the ball drop on tv.

Oh yes I remember it. I turned 21 that day. Had a big party...Didn't drink a drop. Went out the night before got hammered.. Soooooo much to drink.

I was 7 months pregnant with my 1st child. I remember thinking I should prepare for the gloom and doom; however, I was too tired. ;)

Oh yes, I was at Magic Kingdom along with a zillion other people. Our family had a spot staked out for the fireworks since early morning and we took turns holding down our spot while the other half went on rides.I remember it being pretty chilly out and Disney had huge floodlights everywhere, which I assume was "just in case". Could you imagine a major power failure in MK in the middle of the night with tons of people?? Talk about chaos!
