A Long Island forward...ah memories.

Hi MUFFYCAT- Yes, that's the one I'm thinking of. My closest friend lives a couple houses down too.

I have so many memories of the old TSS that was turned into a K-Mart and is now empty. Remember how FoodTown connected right to it and you could walk right in. They had a big candy area and pet store and I think the toy section was in the basement.

OMG! I forgot about TSS! There used to be one a block away from where I work in Bohemia. It also got turned into a Kmart! I used to love getting the pretzles from the stand on the way out when I was a kid.

another former LI'er here. Now in Tampa. I'll be going back in July for a visit-1st time since we moved here 3 yrs ago.

I was in Suffolk for 30 yrs- we moved in when the LIE ended at exit 60. But I spent a lot of time enjoying OBI,Spit & Malibu.

Susan- where in FL are you? Would love to find good NY pizza and bagels. Where I am the only 'decent' NY pizza tastes like it did when it was reheated by the slice in NY. Top melted but the bottom cracks in half.

When we first moved here in 87' we use to shop there. I loved how you can go to TSS and Foodtown at the same time.
We lived at Rickel & Pergament that first year. :rotfl:

Remember Discovery Zone? A great idea when it first opened then it seemed to sink so fast.

Well, it's probably no help that the one in Levittown was put in the basement of a defunct "mall". But they were good ideas and as a kid I enjoyed them.

My parents were so mad when TSS closed. That was how they furnished the house when they first bought it. Kmart wasn't so bad. Now it's just a huge empty store. I really wish they'd do something with it soon. I mean Toys'R'Us closed and within, what, two months (?) DSW and Filenes took over. Yet the Kmart building has been sitting empty for years.

BTW both DH and I worked as cameramen (err woman!) for News 12. I kinda miss that place too. Is Norm Dvoskin still there telling his corny jokes while doing the weather?

Yes, he's still there, I cringe every time he comes on the screen, doesn't anyone tell him he's so not funny????

As for 'cruising the Pike - we did - my ex-bf and I did back in the early 90's when he had his new mustang with the "system" - we would go to the back of the tri-county flea market w/all the other cars, then ride up and down hempstead tpke - trust me, at the time it was cool.

How about cruisin down DPA on a Friday night (Deer PArk Ave). My ridiculous ex husband used to take his oh-so-cool Mitsubishi 3000GT there.

Ahhhhh concerts at Westbury Music Fair and Jones Beach. Trying to steer clear of Jones Beach during Greekfest. 7-11 runs for slurpees...I miss slurpees so much! Blue Raspberry and the sour watermelon were my favorite. Stopping at tje deli for an egg sandwich.

Meeeeeeeemories....

I do remember those, especially Westbury. I saw Zero Mostel in Fiddler there.

And I was there for the entire Mineola Theatre story - from Mineola Playhouse (saw Tom Posten & Chita Rivera in Bye Bye Birdie) through Mineola Theatre, and then it changed to a movie theatre, charging the year. (I paid $.79 to see Friday the 13th and felt ripped off.) Now it's an office building.

I have never been to Westbury Music Fair, but I have been to a couple of Jones Beach concerts over the years.

DH practically lives at 7-11 (we call it Sevs for short). But there are 7-11 in other states. You don't have one where you live now?

I remember being bummed when Debbie Gibson's concert got rained out at Jones Beach. :scared1:

I heard Caruso's is gone - ate many, many dinners there as a kid.

In Brandon, there's Angelina's, Pizza Haven and Pizza USA. Over in Tampa, there was a place on Gunn Highway in front of Wal Mart that had REAL Sicilian and Marino's Italian Ices, but they moved somewhere else. I think the name was Francesco's. I'll ask my FedEx guy, since they *always* seem to be from up north and know what I'm talking about when I say I want NY Pizza.

In Hyde Park, it's not 100% authentic, but there's the Gourmet Pizza at the corner of Armenia and Swann that has the right sauce and crust. They do frou frou toppings, so that's where it gets a little strange.

There's another place in Brandon that was like a typical south shore pizza parlor, Wize Guyz, but they changed management a year ago-went once and it wasn't the same. I haven't been back yet, but I should-since Carvel is right next door! It's by the Regency movie theatre :teeth:

If you want good Italian/Greek, there's a little mom and pop called Romano's on 60 in Brandon. Good stuff, no pizzas though.

Ah, I forgot the old Salty Dog!... And My Father's Place in Roslyn.

This thread is just awesome! I worked cashier at Salty Dog for years! Huntington will never be the same. I miss the Commack Drive in and the roller rink! No more real flea markets like they used to be. Anyone remember The Ritz underground disco in Commack (jeffreys shopping center). OBI on Sunday afternoons was the best! OBI East AND South!

remember Rockbottom?
Boardy Barn
La Plage
Commack Motor Inn :lmao: :rolleyes1
KISS on the water in Ronkonkoma

This is WBAB Babylon thanking everyone on L.I. for showing the world they love Rock and Roll!

I have to finish reading since I posted before doing that! Great memories.:thumbsup2

Never saw her there, but we did see Elvis Costello there and it did rain. Although, I've never seen anyone do as many encores as he did

Speaking of WBAB...did you know that one of the DJ's, Candance Night, teamed up with Richie Blackmore to form Blackmores Night (they have over 4 albums out). Richie and Candance have been engaged for a few years now.

Have you ever passed by there recently on a Friday night? Apparently it is still cool. So don't throw out your membership card to the cool club just yet. ;)

Jenn I just realized you have a spaze/spastic tag too.
It must be something with our neighborhood. :rotfl:

Yes, CMI is still there and going strong from what I hear.

Nope. there aren't any 7-11's here. Of course I can't speak for the ENTIRE state of NC, but certainly none in a 100 mile radius. My DH and I went to visit my cousin in Deltona, FL which is 45 minues north of Disney. Imagine my sheer delight when we found a 7-11 literally around the block from his house! I got the largest slurpee they had!! Where I grew up in Shirley we lived behind a 7-11 (the one right on William Floyd Parkway...our house was the little blue one right behind it, and next to the little strip mall with the ice-cream parlor and liquor stor :rotfl2: ) My sisters and cousins and I would walk EVERY DAY across the street to 7-11 for candy, slurpees and such.
